@ OP. Have you considered mounting the @DayZ folder on a RAMdisk? I did this last night and while my frame rate seems unaffected, my HDD isn't grinding away constantly and I don't see the occasional freeze/stutters any more.

In the cities, I shoot on sight if the player is coming towards me with anything other than a flashlight in his/her hands. Out in the sticks, I'll keep out of site and observe from a safe distance. Multiple players - I'll slink away unseen. Lone player - I'll let you pass on by unless you appear to be looking for me or start moving in my direction carrying a decent rifle.

I run the standard 2GB Sapphire version of the 7870 and don't see that issue. 650 Watts is plenty unless you're running a second GPU or video capture card. Do you have a firewall on your PC? I had the Zone Alarm cause the exact same problem on Fallout 3 until I allowed the game full access in program control..

Personally, I'm not shooting anyone who isn't a threat. Everyone else can play DayZ their way, but if you choose to shoot fresh spawns who are zero threat to you, you're a bellend.

Include the humble OD green poncho. Wear it to keep dry (and hence warm) when hiking in the rain. Add a couple of lengths of paracord and a few tents pegs and build a basha to keep the rain off when you find a safe spot to eat your beans.

Spybot Search & Destroy is my go to remover of bad things. Hasn't let me down in over a decade. Getting back to DayZ, I'm afraid I have some bad news for you... High-end laptops struggle with DayZ due to the CPU intensive nature of the ARMA 2 engine even if they have a good graphics processors on board. Yours is a fairly basic spec one with a very poor GPU and I suspect that DayZ will be unplayable for you.

MRAs and engines should require a vehicle or some kind of trolley/sled to move. While you should be able to carry a car wheel strapped to your back in place of a pack, truck wheels should need another vehicle to move. As for full jerry cans, at 20 kilos each, you should be able to carry 2 on a scaffold poke Mad Max style, but you aren't carring a pack as well and you're not running with these either..

Indeed. DayZ has one of the more realistic inventory loading limits I've seen. Obviously, vehicle spares being a necessary exception. I bet most here couldn't run around the block wearing a loaded tacvest, thigh holster + subloads AND a 40 kilo ruck. But, we expect our DayZ character to run halfway across the map loaded this way on a tin of sardines and a bottle of pond water..

Died of starvation about an hour ago. 2nd or 3rd time I've died due to bad planning on my part. The most annoying part was dying just as I climbed into a deer stand with a tin of beans in it. Lessons not yet learned: 1. Kill and butcher every animal you meet. 2. Take every food item you find. 3. Items from lessons 1 & 2 are more important than ammo for weapons you haven't found yet...

Try to avoid having zombies chase you as nothing gives your position away to other players better than having aggro'ing zombies outside a building or a conga line of them following you.

This! DZC is the easiest and fastest way on getting DayZ working if you have Arma2 on Steam. I installed it manually the first time and had Battle Eye issues. Completely uninstalled ARMA 2 and OP Arrowhead from Steam, cleared out all the folders in User/Documents/Games did the following. 1. Re-installed ARMA 2 and Op Arrowhead via Steam. 2. Ran ARMA 2 once. 3. Ran Op Arrowhead once. 4. Installed DZC and followed the instructions on the site's FAQ. 5. DayZ worked first time out and continues to do so.

I don't shoot players on sight, but I will shoot taggers.
