Open fields and forests. Deer stands are often good places to spot animals from, but don't shoot from one with a Lee Enfield unless you want every zombie for miles around to rush up the ladder and eat you.

Mine usually feature my venturing far off the beaten track after thinking that there would be plenty of wildlife to hunt for food. Which I wouldn't mind so much if animals didn't always appear close to me as I lay there dying.. Have died twice trying to climb rocks and once when I got crushed by a garden gate. I keep forgetting to crouch before going prone in deer stands and the ARMA 2 engine rewards this mistake by running 2 steps into thin air. This shouldn't be fatal, but both times I did this, I didn't have bandages or morphine and died crawling to the nearest loot.. -
There is a big difference between cover and concealment. Concealment hides you from sight, but offers little or no protection from incoming bullets. Cover hides you from sight and shields you from bullets.

What everyone and their dog who hasn't heard of/used MOLLE kit would grab if they need a "vest with a load of pockets to carry stuff" is either a fishing or photographer's vest. Duct tape and cable ties will allow you to fit any sort of pouch anywhere you want it to fit. Add a carpenter's toolbelt and you could carry a whole lot of gear without needing a backpack.

How to get better at gun fights.

Rule number 1 - Use the sights as the crosshairs aren't always on the money. This goes double if you've edited your config file to change your FOV. Rule number 2 - If you're in town and likely to make sudden contact, set fire mode to full auto if possible and aim at the enemy's belt buckle. This way, the 2nd and 3rd shots will hit the torso as the muzzle rises up and to the right. Rule number 3 - In the woods, find hard cover and pick the spot where you have the best chance to hit your enemy before firing. Making this a spot where he doesn't have a good chance to return fire is even better. Rule number 4 - On semi auto, wait for the sights to drop back onto the enemy before firing again. Rule number 5 - You never shoot at a moving target. Lead them slightly in front depending on range. Shooting a moving target at distance requires practice and is best avoided unless you have good cover and total surprise. -

The problem with NV in the game is that it gives you the same range as in daylight, i.e. as far as the draw distance allowed by the server. In reality, the AN/PVS-7 NV goggles used in DayZ will only allow the user to see objects that aren't emitting white or IR light out to 300 metres under starlight (no cloud) conditions. Half that distance on a cloudy night unless you run an IR illuminator at which point anyone within a 1,000 metres with NV can see you. Fix this and make the gamma value server controlled would be a great improvement. As would adding red lenses to the various flashlights/weaponlights so players can see where they're treading without the whole world being able to see them.

The great thing about DayZ is that everyone can play it how they want to play it. This includes being a dick who kills non-threatening players on sight. -
Remapping some of the controls makes things easier. Make "space" = Toggle Run/Walk Make "Caps lock" = Push to talk - Direct Good luck and stay low on ridgelines.

Can players spawn near Zelengorsk? I logged into a server and my character created right where I left him at 011 103. So I was shocked and surprised to see an apparently freshly spawned player peering at from behind a nearby tree around 30 seconds later. I immediately suspected he was a hacker, but since he didn't equip any weapon and ran away as instructed, I didn't shoot. I did run 2 grid squares in the other direction and spent the next 2 hours looking over my shoulder...

Private hive. He could been on a run dead North from spawn and I logged on right behind him. In which case, he was probably more startled than I was. I've not seen a player without at least a pistol or hatchet that far from the coast before.. -
The 2011 Vodka harvest failed and some bright spark tried to make moonshine out of old Soviet biological weapons, Ural brake fluid and Fanta. The resulting explosion released enough Z-Rays to turn the complete male population of Chernarus into Zombies. The womenfolk quickly checked that their handbags and shoes matched, before boarding the Costa Calamity docked in Elektro and sailing to safety. Alas, the Italian captain and crew were so busy romancing the ladies, they totally failed to avoid Skalisty Island and the ship sank without survivors.

There's a number of Eastern European countries whose armed forces use digital camo patterns, some of which are very close copies of Western patterns. I always though the military zombies had German flectarn uniforms myself.. -

I'm going to have to disagree. Not only do I not have the micro hangs/stuttering that plagued my early DayZ gaming, using a RAMDisk means that my 7,200RPM (2MB L1 Cache) isn't rattling like 2 amorous skeletons as the ARMA 2 engine streams textures from the @DayZ folder. -
