    Zeds aggro/spawn is ridiculous!

is running inside a building a picking the zombie/s off with head shots from a pistol still a valid "low profile" tactic?
  2. Not knowing that Urals can flatten the mightiest tree without slowing down, but explode if they so much as nudge a gate at 2MPH...

Should it be released for Mac?

Install 64 bit Windows if your Mac has more than 4GB of RAM. That way you can run your DayZ folder from a RAMDisk to save stream textures from the slow HDD most Macs ship with. Oh, and get used to 15 FPS in town and 30 FPS in the woods with everything on Low and all Filtering disabled.

    Decoy mechanics

Being able to cover the bear traps with leaves or similar would be a start.
  5. Had the same thing driving around Namalsk in the civilian Ural. Knocked down at least 10 trees with zero damage shown to vehicle and yet the Ural exploded instantly on merely clipped the gate at one of the small army bases at around 5MPH.

Should it be released for Mac?

Macs are good for a lot of things, but graphically demanding games isn't one of them.
  7. What temps was the GPU reaching before you set the fan to 100%. Fans on the 6XXX series are pretty noisy under load. My 7970 maxes out at 65 degrees C under load and the fans never run harder than 45-50% percent.
  8. Have you tried running MSI Afterburner and setting it to display GPU Usage and GPU Temp in-game? The glitches shown in your video do make me suspect your video card is having a real hard time with DayZ. When was the last time you opened up your PC and cleaned the dust out of the fans, especially the GPU fan? I used to run a 6850 and it sucked in every last piece of crud..
  9. ^^^^^ This. Suggestions made on this forum do zero harm and might just spark new ideas or improvements if the Devs read them.

    Infected children in DayZ. Poll.

Against it. Purely for the amount of negative press and possible bans with featuring violence against children in game.
  11. So, my regular Chernarus server where I like to roam around off the beaten track and watch all the PvP from a safe distance switch to hosting Namalsk and I spent a couple of interesting hours there yesterday. First impressions: - There's very little cover and the cold forces you to avoid the terrain you could use to your advantage unless you find cold weather clothing. - Hardly any food to be had unless you venture into one of the main bases/towns at which point the KoS Kiddies zap you with whichever high-tier military weapon they tripped over on their dash in from the coast. - Hordes of military zombies everywhere. I had more zombies chasing me after I bumped into one looting Brensk (4 huts) than I would running running down Cherno Main Street holding a smoke grenade. All of this makes me feel that Lone Wolfing / Watcher In The Woods play is next to impossible on Namalsk as you can't survive off the land and any place with a tin of beans is PvP Central. Am I right or does Namalsk deserve another chance?

    Playing Lone Wolf On Namalsk?

Thanks for the tips gents, I'll give it another go.

    I have no idea.

    Ammunition types

If ammunition is hard to come by (and it should be), a smart survivor would reserve the use of firearms for when they have no other choice. Use snares, spears or traps to catch game. Use melee weapons to deal with zombies that can't be dodged or distracted. By the way, for those of you who have never reloaded modern handgun and rifle ammunition, it's very much like cooking. You have to have the right ingredients in the correct amounts and must follow the recipe. Unlike cooking, making mistakes while reloading ammunition often results in someone having pieces of exploded gun pulled out of their flesh by a doctor.

    What is with my FPS?

If you read through the various "why is my FPS so low?" threads, apart from players that old/low spec CPUs; a lot of Intel 3XXX series user have all sort of issues with DayZ. The odd thing is that 35XX and 37XX should be equal to any task you throw at them. There must be some architectural/hyper-threading implementation in these CPUs that the ARMA2 engine really doesn't like.

    Ping too high

Are you trying to play on servers local to you? You can check if your connection is poor outside of DayZ by finding the IP address of the server you want to play on and enter it on www.just-ping.com.

    Ammunition types

Every 5.56 NATO (M855 in the US) round made since the early 1980s features a bullet made to defeat combat body armour at 300 metres. These are referred to as STANAG rounds in DayZ as the introduction of this round across NATO was done through the adoption of STANAG 4172. Please note that just about any modern military round will penetrate the Level 3 soft armour commonly issued by most 1st and 2nd world armed forces as this is only rated to protect against pistol calibre and fragmentation threats. It's the hard plate inserts that are designed to defeat rifle rounds.

    I. Found. Mountain. Dew.

I found 2 cans of Dew stashed in a car hidden up by Willow Lake. They were delicious.

    Thoughts on the M107 / AS50

Snipers judge the windage correction required by observing wind effects on foliage etc. along the path of the intended shot. For a shot over 500 metres in complex terrain, it's entirely likely that you will have different wind directions at the firing point and at the target location and an experienced shooter will be able to estimate the mean windage required to land the bullet on target.

    Shooting system for the standalone

DayZ isn't BF3 or CoD2. We call this a clue.

    Hackers are not the enemy!

Wait until hackers learn to spam rocks around you...
  22. Changing the Interface Size to Very Large makes them disappear on my PC.

    Ammunition types

The great majority of hunting rifle ammunition uses soft point bullets as they give far greater consistency of expansion and penetration. The only exception are those loaded with the Nosler Ballistic Tip (nylon tipped hollow points) which do nothing apart from wound game and only utter spunktrumpets use them.

    M16A2 vs M4A1

M16A4 w/ACOG suits my Lone Wolf style as I can get dinner at a distance without the whole of Chernarus hearing it. Very useful for PvP outisde cities as you have the range marker on the reticle and no zeroing.

    15 round pellet ammunition

Common Common in the USA, not in a former Soviet satellite state in Eastern Europe.
