Must be a Brit in the Dev team as stab proof vests are standard issue for the British police.

Good luck sewing woven Kevlar soft armour or hard armour plates back together.

Found another one in the hills around Tulga:

How do you deal with other players?
terminal_boy replied to SploogeMcDuck's topic in General Discussion
Seen one other player so far in the couple of hours I've played. As he had a long rifle (I'm guessing a Mosin) and I had a fire axe, I backed away keeping trees between us. Judging by the way he took cover and then disappeared from sight, he either thought I was armed as well or wasn't interested in killing a relative fresh spawn. I'm still playing the SA as I did the Mod: trying to be very stealthy and see other players first. -
20 Mio. $ Gross Income - does it accelerate development speed?
terminal_boy replied to Novalis's topic in General Discussion
Money from sales takes a while to turn up in a companies bank account, doubly so if the sales are made through another company such as Steam. And just because a company has enough money to buy a tropical island or state their own space program, it doesn't mean they can recruit the additional talent they need to boost development in 5 minutes. -
What exactly do ballistic helmets stop
terminal_boy replied to chasieboy317's topic in General Discussion
Usually designed to the same NIJ Level 3 spec as soft armour panels : stops 9MM NATO Ball at point blank range and a range of different shrapnel fragments. Lots of accounts from Iraq and Afghanistan of US ACH/MICH/LWH and UK Mk7 deflecting/stopping 7.62 x 39 Soviet rounds fired from several hundred metres away. Direct hits at closer ranges are likely to cause severe head injuries due to back face deformation of the helmet's shell or severe neck injuries due to the impact forces involved. -
Wait... The Devs put zombie sniper owls in the SA?There goes my plan to hide in the woods and scavenge bandit kills.

In real life, it would depend if you need to close your weak side eye to see both fore and rear sights. If you do close one eye, you're left with just the sight picture, which isn't a whole lot when using a weapon with a "peep" type rear sight. This is why red dot sights are so effective as you keep both eyes open and the sight body fades from view as you're focusing on your target and it's surrounds.

I'll take a less visible colour and better carrying capacity over a "Shoot me now!" blue flak jacket.

I'm not sure what you're on about... The point I was trying to make is that the SA's engine is going to need some serious tuning before even a monster rig will throw enough frames to feed a 4K Rift. People with top-end gaming PCs which can play the current AAA titles at 100+ FPS on Ultra settings at 1080p are struggling to get 60+ FPS on High settings with the SA right now which would suggest that even driving a 1080p Rift at a stable and playable framerate might be a struggle.
-
The Rift has enormous potential, but Rocket is going have to decide who he's going to upset as I doubt that the SA game engine (ArmA 2.5?) won't be able to please both the people who want to be able to play the SA with low-end laptops and APUs and those that want the SA to work with the monster GPUs required to feed a 4K Rift..

Mikhail Kalashnikov has died... add an AK variant in his memory.
terminal_boy replied to OfficerFriendly (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This! Maybe the odd Belgian Browning or Czech BRNO rifle and other Warsaw Pact AK variants. -
Should be very playable at High with AA and Post-Processing disabled.
-
Afraid not.
-
Both your CPU and graphics card. Honestly, your whole PC needs upgrading to play any current games.
-
Sorry for being flippant. Your PC will not run the DayZ SA at anything near a playable frame rate.
-
Not at chance, I'm afraid. It might be able to launch the SA, but you'd be able to draw frames faster by hand.

Is Arma Engine not AMD processor friendly ?
terminal_boy replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Yes, but 32 bit Windows only allows you to use 3.5GB of RAM. -
M4 should be semi / 3 round burst. M4A1 is semi / full.
-
Lower FPS on standalone then mod. (Alot)
terminal_boy replied to Esset-'s topic in General Discussion
Do you set the same launch parameters for the SA as you do the mod? Have you edited the config file for the SA? -
Yes, the SA appears to offer slighty better frame rates than the mod. The bad news is that your 2008 entry level PC isn't going to give you a good DayZ experience.
-
Make sure you install the 64 bit version so you can use all 4GB of RAM, but even then it's not going to be a great experience.

Duct tape + flashlight + weapon = weapon with flashlight
terminal_boy replied to MMARO164 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You'd have to tape the flashlight to the weapon's hand guard/fore grip. The heat from firing any rifle/shotgun repeatedly would melt the tape if you attached the flashlight to the barrel with it. -
Dear Devs, Will we see more optimization?
terminal_boy replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Are you running 64 bit Windows on your Bootcamp partition? I've seen people quote the RAM figures reported by OS X which won't be correct if you're running 32 bit windows. I used to very occasionally fire up the Mod on my 2011 MacBook Pro which has the exact same spec apart from mine has an SSD. Just about playable on a lightly loaded server on Low/Med settings. The main problem I noticed was everything slowing down after 30 minutes as thermal throttling cuts in on both CPU and GPU as the MacBook's cooling solution was never designed for gaming. Maybe the client-side optimisation promised will help, but you're already fighting a losing battle having a 2.3 GHz CPU and mobile GPU. -
So..did the Americans...(equipment query)
terminal_boy replied to toddmh's topic in General Discussion
The ex-Warsaw Pact ones likely to be floating around a former Soviet Republic aren't the Magpul M4-A-Likes you seen the OMON boys using.
