You should get similar performance in the SA without much adjustment of graphics settings. Regarding the upgrade, check if your motherboard can support an i5 3570K and look to put a great cooler on it so that you can overclock it. Graphics card will be next, but check how much current your PSU can supply on the +12V rail first as it would be a shame for you to buy an R9 290 or GTX 780 and not have enough power...

Timed log out so you won't get random killed

Think of preparing to logout as if your character needs to sleep. Move to a quiet spot on the map ensuring that you're not being observed. Prone surrounded by pine trees is idea. Spend a few minutes conduction a 360 degree sweep of your surrounds so that your character's not going to get jumped the moment his/her eyes shut. Logout knowing your game self is safe. -
what do you guys do when you meet zombies without weapons?
terminal_boy replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Sprint until they lose sight of you and then crouch-run staying out of their line if sight until they give up. -
Low-end (civilian) NV usually relies on an IR light source which is visible to high-end (military) NV from a considerable distance. Even with an IR source, using a camera as an NV device would give you very limited viewing range. Great idea, but it would need to implemented sensibly too avoid sniper duct-taping a camera onto their rifle and picking people off from hundreds of metres away at night.

PSA : Don't try to climb onto the canvas hold covers on the wrecked freighter.
terminal_boy posted a topic in General Discussion
Was looking around the wrecked freighter up the coast from Berezino for the first and did something really stupid... Saw what looked like a set of camouflaged clothing onto of one of the green canvas hold covers and hit the V key to climb up and take a closer look. Bad idea as my character fell right through the canvas cover onto the steel deck below. "You are dead..." -

What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
terminal_boy replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
I meant in real life. A number of US Law a Enforcement agencies had to withdraw the P90 from service with their SWAT teams as the poor terminal ballistics meant that officers were having to fire 5-10 round bursts to achieve the same effect as a single round from a 5.56mm carbine. -
What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
terminal_boy replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
Do you .22LR fans think that an FN P90 in 5.7 x 28 is more or less lethal than a 10/22? -

Vehicles and how the repairing mechanic will work

Engine swap requires a hoist/A-frame and a lot of time. Have you ever lifted out a large petrol or Diesel engine ? A wheelbarrow isn't going to take that weight. -
What to expect from the Ruger 10/22
terminal_boy replied to JalapaJuiceJerry's topic in General Discussion
Realistic would be that the 10/22 can kill a rabbit at 100 yards and a human/infected at 50 yards if hit in the brain. -
Can an M24 put into consideration beside the Mosin?
terminal_boy replied to mareak's topic in Suggestions
On the contrary, all the Gear Heads will be killing each other to have the M24, while I pick the wounded survivors off one by one from deep in the woods. -

Only 1 x M24 per SEAL Team deployed. -
What is your favorite thing to do in DayZ?

I like to hide in the woods watching players run past completely unaware that they have a gun pointed at them and I could kill them any time I wanted. -
Dear Mods & Admins, Would it be possible to have a little SA sub-forum to chronicle the activities of the CCSD?
-
There are only a few rounds that can actually be chambered and fired in a gun designed to fire a different round. In each case, doing so poses a great danger to the gun and the firer.
-
Let's hope they did exactly that as the alternative is very troubling...
-
Possibility that "horde" had chased survivor out of nearest village and remained in the woods after said survivor had evaded them?
-
This. Good luck making either of the required parts without a machine shop.
-
Did you run towards the player with the axe without using comms? That will get you killed every time.

What is your opinion on this outfit?

I hear banjos... -
I always follow the wisdom of my great grandfather (WW1) and grandfather (WW2) when it comes to trusting Germans. Only once I've shot them 5-6 times and/or bayoneted them first.

How much authenticity is too much?
terminal_boy replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The import costs would make a 10/22 very expensive compared to the "local" CZ or Baikal equivalent. Price, reliability and availability of ammunition and spares will be the key factors that any Eastern/Central European farmer or hunter considers when buy a .22LR rifle. I wouldn't need to tell Miley to behave if I saw her, as she'd be living in my basement from then on...
