Tents used to be good, but maybe they got broke somewhere along the way. They are supposed to stay put though and save your stuff, though note that tents, like stashes, are only on the server you placed them. Anyway for stashes, you find sandbags in industrial loot piles, so warehouses, little sheds that sometimes have car parts, train cars, etc. You don't actually craft them. You can find nails in the same places. Once you have the sandbag you just right click it or the e-tool (don't remember which but one has "create stash" and the other prompts you to make a sandbag wall). The starter stash is bad, but you have an upgrade option on it that needs woodpiles (chop down trees, right click the logs and do what it says, right click that to get your piles) and then eventually nails. As far as I know stashes have been in for a couple updates at least so it definitely seems stable. Server I'm on my stashes have been there since I put them up about a week and a half ago and that server has 4 times a day server restarts.

Anyone know of any Namalsk server with a decent population and none of the "billion vehicles, self blood bag, start with all items" or Epoch stuff?
-
1. Tents persist even when you aren't on, so make sure you have a good spot. 2. Items not in tents, stashes, or vehicles are deleted on server resets. As a side note, I would recommend making a stash instead of a tent. It is much easier to find the materials for than finding an actual tent and much harder to spot. Find a shovel and a sandbag and you are good to go. From there all you need is wood and then eventually nails to make your own hidden hole in the ground that can hold like 15 weapons and nearly a hundrend items. You could even just pack/unpack your tent and put it inside your stash once you have one; a tent is good to have for when you get sick as using the "rest" option has a chance (not sure how much) of curing you.

Character not persistent and a few misc questions
chaoseffect posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I just got back into Dayz after a long break and now I'm finding an issue I never had before: My characters don't seem to persist among all hive servers... at least I think they are all hive servers as they are not hidden when I select "Hide Unofficial" in Dayz Commander. The only thing I can think of is that two of the servers were apparently French (FR # was how they started), one was US, and one had [sBRF]; the two FR servers were consistent, but the other two prompted new character generation. They are all supposed to be non-private hive servers though which confuses me. Anyone else have similar issues? Also I had a few misc questions that I thought I would include here instead of starting another topic: 1. Are non-private hive servers becoming extinct or is there an issue with Dayz Commander? It searches through like 3600 servers and comes up with a list of about a dozen official, currently day servers. That doesn't seem right. 2. I saw a huge second block of apartment buildings on the north east side of Cherno next to a downed airliner... is that vanilla? Asking because if it's not then it may explain some of the weird inconsistency issues I'm having with my characters. If that is vanilla, does that airliner spawn loot? -

Worst Weapon In Dayz -Vote

I don't understand why people talk about the hatchet like its bad. It's silent, common, and one shots zombies. It also fucks players up if you can get close enough. I'd take it over any barn tier weapons besides the winchester as well as any of the shotguns. -

In game terms it just means that if you want to get geared you have even less choice in where to go. -

mick17 is his group's designated pilot and mostly spends his time in the rear with the gear. Tends to leave the firefights to others... also didn't read what you actually said before posting this, as I like it to be more challenging :o -
Survivor, stop yelling "Friendly friendly" when im aiming at you!
chaoseffect replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've come across a lot of people that were genuinely willing not to murder me on sight and give basic assistance, and I usually try to give the benefit of the doubt too. It's burned me a few times (last time what looked like two survivors with military weapons were in trouble via all the zombies in the world outside of Cherno so I went down with my friend to help them and we did and were leaving when the one I didn't get a good look at shot me; turned out it was a chick with a bandit skin, but I killed his buddy before dying and my friend finished the bandit so it all worked out), but all the times it didn't is what makes it worthwhile. Also helps people seem to be willing to trust a hero more than a random survivor ;o -
Opinions on this behaviour
chaoseffect replied to B1rd_of_H3rmes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been propositioned a few times by heavily armed people in vehicles as a fresh spawn literally right next to where I spawned. I try not to give them the satisfaction and just let them have their kill. They're assholes, but it happens, and I go on with the rest of my day. -
The dumbest/funniest things you've seen in DayZ?
chaoseffect replied to deceitfulburger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A friend of mine and I had found a mostly complete bus parked by the tents in Balotta, so we fixed it, and road off into the sunset. Awesome! It's getting dark in game and late irl so we decide to find a place to stash it so we can log and start driving north. We're making slow progress through Nazidino when my friend slightly hits into something in the road. He says "I think we lost a wheel" and I was like "hmm" and we continued down the road for about another 15 feet. And then it fucking exploded out of nowhere, killing him and throwing me off into the grass. I managed to not get killed by now spawning zombies while unconscious and almost made it out of town alive with both my gear and my friends before I missed a shot with a silenced weapon and went down for the count... we ended up being obligated to go back there in the dark and rain because I had NVGs at the time. We call that long windy road leading to Nazidino "the trail of tears" now >_< -
Is there any decent gear in cherno??
chaoseffect replied to richjones19772000's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's also the two military tents by the military hospital. I tend to find guns there most of the time. For guns there is also the fire station. -
Namalsk. Great map, but some things are rly annoying.

You can still get screwed pretty easily if you're in the wildnerness when the emissions count down starts, but for the most part it is pretty avoidable. -
Do you feel bad about taking things from other people's tents?
chaoseffect replied to robotpenguin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At the very least it's a waste of resources; knowing where a nicely stocked tent is can be a huge advantage. -
DayzChernaurs w/ Barracks at Bolota & NEAF[REGULAR NP:OFF][GMT-5] Private Hive 200+ Vehicles 8+ Helicopters Hosted by [PF]

The added barracks makes it seem like the server would degenerate the south into a deathmatch even more so than it normally is on a populated server, but still sounds interesting. I'll check it out ;o -
Do you feel bad about taking things from other people's tents?
chaoseffect replied to robotpenguin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've come across quite a few fully stocked tents in the south, and when I find them I tend to assume they were a hackers stash and bleed them dry over how many lives I can. Don't feel bad at all, as they should have hid it better and my need was obviously more so than theirs ;p -
I'm not a bandit, but playing on Namalsk last week I had an interesting encounter. I was about 15 minutes into a life but I was armed to the teeth with that light machine gun that uses ak clips (yay for spawning next to like 5 military installations in the mountains) and was crossing the super long rail bridge on the south part of the map, I was about halfway accross when me and a new spawn who was working his way from the other side noticed each other and he started flipping out over direct "noooo please nooo don't kill me please" while I was trying to shout over him that I was friendly and had no desire to bust a cap in his ass... and then he ran to take cover behind one of the little alcoves on the bridge and logged. Wonder what the guy was so afraid of as he looked like a fresh spawn >_< On the reverse side of things, I don't bitch and moan on side chat when I get killed and I try to talk my friends out of doing so; sometimes it just happens, no use raging about it to the guy who killed you.
-
I disagree with that part. If you spawn in a city, you might as well hit the outskirts or maybe just head in if the server isn't near capacity; you don't have anything to lose but you have a lot you can quickly gain. I'd suggest this more for Cherno than Elecktro though, as Elecktro is always more of a killing ground than Cherno. For Cherno the apartments by the hospital and then military tents by the second hospital are both very nice places to loot as you can easily get in and out without going deep into the city (especially so for the apartments, where you can get to them in less than a minute from the woods around the city). Besides that, if you hear shots it is usually better to just not investigate. No matter how well armed you are, if someone gets the drop on you you will most likely go down, so walking down the street where potentially unfriendly armed people are is a mistake. If you see someone armed and they also see you, try to get away, perhaps while yelling "friendly" while you get to cover. Don't wait for them to answer before getting your ass to safety as their answer might be bullets. Talking down a gun man works better if you ininiate the conversation while you have the drop on them, as opposed to turning a corner and finding someone there.

I found a broken pair on Namalsk and excitedly picked them up anyway while wondering if they were repairable... before remembering I too was on a day only server.

What is your favorite DayZ map?
chaoseffect replied to Pyro_Marine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd play Dayz Pennsylvania. -
Breakable bones is a feature... but yeah the way its treated is a bit buggy. You eventually get a feel for what will probably unreasonably break your bones and learn to try to minimize those risks. Another one to watch out for it opening gates; besides being damn near impossible to do quickly (say goodbye to your quick getaway), if they swing out on you they can also break your bones and leave you red.
-
Yeah, I don't go for vehicles too much; having obvious nice things makes others realize they don't have obvious nice things which is bad for you... besides the fact that it makes you stand out. If you find one usable, I'd take it for a joyride then ditch it on the side of the road (after checking the trunk for loot of course). Also Novy? I've been there a grand total of 1 time; I didn't think anyone actually stopped there on their way to Stary.

I enjoy being a carebear on Dayz; helping strangers and being rewarded with them helping you in turn (instead of a bullet in the back) makes it incredibly rewarding and restores some faith in humanity :o -
Disappointment (warning: pointless!)
chaoseffect replied to Hooveh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My beginner Dayz experience wasn't frustrating in the least because a friend of mine got me into it, and he'd been playing alone for about a month or so (and as such learned by trial and error for me ;p). But yeah, the amount of hackers do make things rediculous; a lot of servers I try to get on immediately kick me for a script restriction (no idea why) so I found a list of 5 or so that I bounce between and lately they've been infested with spawned buildings (the two door industrial warehouse mostly), battleships, and the standard killing arena on the NWAF. One thing that makes it tolerable is looking over quite often and seeing another global ban... I would try a private hive if you're new, but for me I'm lazy and I <3 my hero skin so I don't want to start over >_<
