This. From what I've seen, using the compass per quickbar isn't really a "struggle". I'm pretty certain they just wanted to make you actually select the compass for using it, putting aside your weapon, therefore adding another element of suspense and a risk for you to take in order to navigate. Kinda like the whole "pistol-flashlight" thing. I agree with you on the other stuff though; I hope managing your inventory, drinking and eating (not regarding preparation) will be made as intuitive and non-annoying as possible.

Look at how smugly they are spamming the global chat! Talking all normally, as if they're any better than the rest of us! Those cocky bastards...! How dare they?

If I'm not mistaken, they're in the same timezone as us Germans. That means it's almost 2:00 a.m. for Rocket now. That's dedication. Kudos!

I remember the European versions of Fallout 1 and 2 that had children hastily removed, which would lead to plot stoppers in quests and other bullshit like invisible kids stealing from you. It sucked. Regardless whether I think they would benefit the game, I'm against adding them (and I'm pretty certain they won't). The game just couldn't be released around here and some other places. As much as that sucks and I hate the excessive censorship, that's just the way it is.

Easy isn't always good. This wouldn't only take away from immersion and atmosphere (30 seconds of running around and through zombies without them recognizing you?), it would also add some kind of cheap "shooter" feel to things. I wouldn't like this at all.

Why, of course! You're welcome.

Debatable.

Although I do agree with what you say and I tried the same thing before, this train just seems to be unstoppable to me! ^_^

I am looking forward to the standalone like everyone else, but I think we shouldn't let our excitement obstruct our reason and scepticism. Realistically, I'm pretty sure expectations won't be satisfied as is. So yeah, I hope it will release soon, but not at all costs and in whatever condition. Regarding early acccess/alpha: Back in the days alpha versions were extremely buggy and very rough; they were for testing only, but they were also free. Nowadays everything gets released under the alpha label for whatever price, sometimes even with an integrated item shop (ugh!). In my opinion, the relevance of this term has changed and customers can and should expect more from today's "alphas". I don't expect it to be perfect and working flawlessly and it won't, but as soon as you charge for something, there are certain standards you have to meet (in my opinion).
-
I hope you're wrong, for the standalone's development's sake.

Just looked at some pictures of Prague, looks nice to me. Then again, most of the time I'm trying not to be a cynical grump. On topic though, I feel as if standalone release is pretty imminent, too (matter of days). As I am looking forward to Project Zomboid as well, I will at least be distracted by it as soon as it releases today!

Or to hang this whole gaming hobby up in shame. Seriously though, I hope (and I'm almost certain) they release the standalone according to their progress and the stability of the game, not because of some arbitrary, pseudo-strategic marketing considerations.

If I illegitimately showed footage from an unauthorized leaked version, I would still have the decency to wear a shirt.

I did military service back when it was a thing in this country, firing an (average) weapon isn't exactly sorcery. That leads me to what I was really talking about: High grade military weapons and equipment just shouldn't really be that big a thing in the standalone in my opinion, at least made extremely rare. Not only would this negate the "realism" problem but it would also serve this above-mentioned "civilian" feeling. I just don't see military choppers firing machine guns flying all over the place in DayZ Standalone.
-
Hate to be that guy, but I don't see the relevance of these videos for DayZ. I for one am looking forward to feel less like a soldier and more like an average guy experiencing the zombie apocalypse in the standalone compared to the mod. Not hating on military simulations at all, but I think being released as a standalone gives the game an opportunity to distinguish itself a little from its Arma roots. I'm sure not everybody feels the same, but I do think Rocket is going for a more "civilian" feel to things based on the videos and blogs of the (distant) past.

He starts teasing the testers, too? Why, that's just mean! Nah, it's cool. As long as he doesn't lose his sense of humour, everything's dandy. Eh, I mean "stop fucking around and release alpha FFS". God.... Like, totally!

That's what they want you to believe! #rocketfoot

Alright, this happened some time ago, but still I remember it clearly. A buddy of mine and me were scavenging the warehouses at the Berezino docks, we were trying to repair the newly introduced Little Bird we found at the North East airstrip (which we never managed to accomplish). We heard gunshots and saw a guy with what seemed like a sniper rifle run towards the corner of a wall at the edge of the docks. My friend, who himself had a DMR at the time, tried shooting the guy, but he didn't manage to get him before he disappeared behind the wall. In what can only be described as a flash decision, I grabbed my MK 48 Mod 0 and sprinted after that guy. I assumed he was going to bolt and I really wanted to take him down before he was gone. Unfortunately, when I reached the wall and ran around it, I looked at the guy, crouching only about 10 meters behind the wall and aiming right at me, and another guy right next to him doing the same. Before I was able to think "fuck it", I was generously emptying my mag in the rough direction of the two guys. Until this day I don't know how I managed to do it, but I actually killed one of them before I was perforated by bullets. When the surviving guy tried to loot my corpse, my buddy easily got him with his sniper rifle. So, I lost my Ghillie that day. Totally worth it.

I agree, in fact Rocket stated that all the mechanics for alpha are in place, so it pretty much comes down to finetuning now. Might be wrong about it though, not gonna jump on the conspiracy bandwagon. What I am really afraid of at this point is the possibility of DayZ, season 2 of the Walking Dead Adventure and Project Zomboid, three games I am eagerly awaiting, releasing at pretty much the same time. This would leave me in some kind of predicament. Well, nothing to do about it other than excessively stockpilling supplies at my home.

I try not to get too hyped, but I still want to be there when public alpha starts. A lot of people think the same, I guess. So yeah, the servers got to be ready to handle that. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but all anticipation aside, I can hardly imagine the chaos of the first few days... Hey, don't be an age-snob, there are a lot of awesome 14-year-olds I'd rather game with than some old assholes. I don't say that because I'm that young, in fact I'm almost twice that old, but I don't want to turn into some grumpy "these young rascals" old dude. No reason to start that shit early. ;)

Gonna take a break from the forums and force myself not to check back for a while I think; doubt I will be the only one. Not to sound too pessimistic or angry and I'm still looking forward to the standalone, but I'm pretty disappointed by the long wait and the lack of communication. Checking the forums every day without a piece of information (generic "we're testing" messages don't count) gets really tiring at this point.

Guys, I don't know what to say, but it's really happening! Here's some proof I found: I better go tell Onlinewelten and some other news sites! :o

No reason translating that, it's pretty obviously fake in my opinion. In the second picture, the green box marking reduced prices is missing and there is no logo or name for DayZ on it. Plus, why would someone take a picture of the monitor instead of screenshotting? To reduce quality and hide the signs of editing, I would assume. Though you're right, 1 Euro = 1 Dollar for Steam games is absolutely true nonetheless. Unfortunately, we just have to pay more. So yeah, when there's a game for $49,99, we will most likely have to pay €49,99, which equals to $68. Kinda sucks. I'm done whining now.

In the year 2089, archeologists discover this cave painting on an island somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by empty bean cans. It is estimated to be at least 70 years old. Leading scientists are puzzled if there might be a release date hidden in this mysterious painting. Credits to DeadIslandForever from VGBA for the box art, I think it's awesome!
