Fair point. There will be a lot of technical difficulties at the beginning I'm sure, but that's mainly because it will be the alpha of a seperate game, while a lot of the mod's problems come from its mechanics being entirely dependent on Arma 2. So there are a lot more possibilities and chances to expand the standalone in the long run. Also, the testers and Rocket repeatedly stated the distinct feel and nature of the standalone and its shifted focus on survival. So while limited by its early stage, it will be a very different experience on its own, if they are to believe. Try to be more optimistic about this. I hope people have realized by now DayZ (Vanilla) is something peculiarly special. If some people really are deterred by the long wait or the game's state (technics and gameplay), it won't be a big loss for the dedicated gamers' experience.

Quick update for 19 November 2013
Tempus (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
You didn't, but a lot of people do. He was talking about them. The fact that no one else does it doesn't automatically make it a bad thing. I for one think it's a breath of fresh air and I can't see it wasting too much time or building too much hype (if you take it reasonably). SalamanderAnder's post sounded more personal than it was intended to be, I think. It's just that "constructive criticism" from the people waiting for the standalone can get exhausting sometimes and strangely schizophrenic, hence I made that picture he posted. It just goes to show Rocket can't win, regardless of how he handles things. Don't take it too personal. On a different note:- 165 replies

You make it sound like that's a bad thing. It's a reasonable and healthy attitude everybody should have.

I can recommend the Sennheiser PC 360. You might want to check that out, if you can get your hands on it. Costs about 170 € around here.

Nothing really, hype trains getting blown up, then quickly rebuilt (aka testers joining the server, version changes etc.), then blown up again. I wonder though, is it always a single mod driving the train and jumping before the act of sabotage? Do they take turns?
-
Exactly, that's why SalamanderAnder stated in your quote Rocket couldn't single-handedly delay Alpha release, even if he wanted to. If you are referring to his first sentences, I think he meant something like this: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1qrkov/to_the_dev_team_losing_our_patience_not_a_moaning/

That sucks, it really seems like something that is unavailable at the moment and needs to be fixed then. I agree with the others though; not being able to play as a female character shouldn't prevent you from playing the original. Maybe you want to try a first person only server? It might not bother you as much that way (it's way more suspenseful anyway). If it's not for you, try to get used to a male character. Like I said, it's really not that bad (though I understand you might not like it at first). It would be a shame if you didn't play Vanilla DayZ for that reason, though.
-
Hmm, maybe try a server that has "spawn selection on" or something like that in its description, then. Maybe gender selection only works on a server that has spawn selection enabled and as far as my experience tells me, most public hive servers don't.
-
I'm at a loss then, sorry. Maybe someone else has an idea what's going on? In the meantime, I'd suggest playing a male character. It's not that bad! ^_^
-
Curious. Have you tried dying and spawning on another server? Maybe the option is turned off on your server for some reason. That's the only thing I can think of.
-
Try dying. You should get the option to have a female character when spawning.
-
Huh? Did they remove the option of having a female character in DayZ when I wasn't looking? As far as I know, there is an option for that upon spawning. But in case you mean these kinds of skins... ... I can't help you.
-
As far as I know, there's no information on that specifically and I do think it is of minor importance. But you should know the animations and look of the axe in the demo video are nothing but placeholders: Blue name! Beans.
-
Hell yeah! This should be one of the top priorities! Somewhere in between server performance/stability and ragdoll physics!

I'm sorry, maybe I got the wrong quote or I am missing something, but I don't quite understand. To me, "survival" play is what defined vanilla DayZ - and from what I heard from the devs and a few testers, it will be even more of a focus in Standalone. "Mega loot, weapons, 10.000 vehicles" I automatically affiliate to some of DayZ's mods, where mechanics seem to be exaggerated compared to vanilla (and I do believe this is what DemonGroover was referring to). "Ending up like every other shooter" is something I'm afraid of happening to DayZ Mod at this point, with every other version adding more loot and "shooter"-heavy equipment. If anything, I expect DayZ Standalone to be more of a barebone experience, therefore scaring people, than becoming a watered down "every other shooter". Again, I'm sorry if I misunderstood anything, I just find your two statements to be somewhat contradictory. If the standalone sucks, it will be a pity. My best guess is some friends and me will refrain from playing it for a while, waiting for things to get refined and finished, then returning back to it - I suspect if it sucks to me, it's because of the game's state, as I really like the approach they are going for.
-
It has happened to me, too. Blood transfusion didn't work, although it should have. It did work after a while (around 10 minutes) of waiting and once after server change for no apparent reason. There's nothing you can do about it now, except calm down, try to retrieve your gear at the place you lost it (if you remember which server you were on) and starting anew. If you're not trolling, that is.
-
I assure you, my only interest is to inform you the best I can. I just felt that piece of information got lost somehow. If you don't believe me, I'll refer you to my avatar. But never fear! Your plan is still functioning - just assume release to be on December 31st!

I really don't want to get you all hyped up again, good ladies and gentlemen, but may I remind you: He wouldn't lie to us, now would he? Would he?
-
Sorry, I had to... Actually, I'm happy to see more gestures added. I hope they won't get misused excessively though. Also, I hope there won't be a t-bag animation, if you catch my drift...
-
Doubtful. To quote Rocket:
-
That reminds me...
-
Or maybe ears? Hmm... I bet Daryl could make a sweet necklace out of that... But seriously, I don't think that's really necessary or appropriate (apart from not being a priority at all). Sounds like something that would get misused too easily and would make it too hard for the game to pass censorship.
