    Why I'm uninstalling DayZ

I am guessing this fella got his ass sniped in northwest airfield and he is real butthurt about it.
  5. Don't worry guys, I am sure the animations will be crappy just like ARMA's. Actually ARMA's applications are not crappy exactly, but they sure are not fluid.

    Ability to write on Maps

Great idea! I remember Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass had the ability to draw on your map (and also solve puzzles with it). It was a great feature because certain quests did not hold your hand and guide you with an arrow or an obvious sign. Instead they would maybe tell you coordinates but more than likely just tell you to "find a large tree in the northwest of the map close to a small flower garden" or something. I could see the addition of new items such as charcoal, pens or pencils into the game that can be used with the map to write stuff on it. People could mark bases, firing positions, certain times, player names...anything!
  7. YES! I hope at least a proper bolt action animation for the enfield rifle...AT LEAST!
  8. My group and I found a helicopter and were flying about looking for trouble one night when we spotted a blue van on the road heading west out of Solinchny. We thought it would be an easy kill...turns out the driver had an AS50 and while the helicopter was leveling out for the doorgunners he ejected from his van and fired five shots right at the side of the heli killing the left door gunner and severely damaging the helicopter. I took evasive action (I was the pilot) and managed to evade his shots but as I was trying to gain altitude I noticed that in the woods on the mountains surrounding the valley there were more players, three more all armed with .50s and m4's. they riddled the heli with 5.56 and AS50 rounds. I knew that we were not going to make it over the ridge and the helis engines gave out and we started to plummet at a very high speed. I, being the highly skilled pilot I was, directed the smoking (and burning) hulk of a helicopter towards a small clearing the the treeline, barely 50 meters across. Despite my best efforts to reduce speed I could not do much as all systems were non functional. I knew the only thing I could do was to try to land the helicopter on its belly and try not to hit allot of trees as I crashed into the ground. We hit the ground at 75 KPH and the helicopter exploded sending the remaining crew flying. I realised I was not dead but only unconcious and I quickly regaind conciousness and bandaged myself. 2 of the five people died on impact while the remaining 3 struggled to pull themselves up and away from the wreck. As everyone got to their feet we came under fire from further down the hill so we all ran as fast as we could up the rest of the hill. We all went prone at the top and waited for our attackers to come up to examine the wreck. When the three of them came up we opened fire killing two and knocking one unconcious. We made a quick getaway over the hill and survived another day. Don't know how it was possible that any of us managed to survive (some had taken bullets during the airborne firefight) but we did.

More cars. (This is not a "ADD A LIMO" thread.)

I agree to this. Maybe have a limited amount of fuel per fuel tank. Have a random amount of fuel spawn in those large gas tanks you find (it could be full or almost empty). Finding a full gas tank would be very, very rare and the longer a server is up the less fuel there will be. Maybe have small jerry cans of fuel spawn every now and then but rarely. Also, different kinds of fuel? Maybe have a few vehicles that run on propane or require diesel or something. Also, add more bikes and maybe some domesticated horses to ride.
  10. how about no 1337 anti material rifles and more double barrel shotguns and bolt action rifles?

101 days on pub, killed by skiddie aswell.
  12. So it has been 3-4 years since I built my current gaming pc and I am feeling the "slowdownyness" of an ageing rig. She runs pretty good still but has trouble getting a constant >35 frames out of DayZ. When I enter a larger town my fps will often drop to below 25, which puts me at a significant disadvantage when it comes to firefights or looting buildings. I have noticed fps problems in other games aswell and I think it is now time to start the process of retiring some of the older parts and purchasing some newer, more powerfull parts. GPU: GTX 280 1gb CPU: AMD Phenom 2 X4 2.8ghz RAM: 8 gb DDR3 1333mhz PSU: 850w HDD: 500gb 7200rpm Case: Antec 300 (with no frills at all) Motherboard: MSI something or other (two PCI-e slots) OS: Windows 7 Home I have a pretty small budget (0-160 bucks) at this time and am looking to upgrade either the CPU or GPU first. Since I built my rig I have not been paying much attention to whats on the market at this time but I am sure there is some reasonably priced solutions available. I am not a purist when it comes to brands and would be glad to have either ATI or Nvidia GPU's (assuming they perform well and have no issues). I plan on doing one part at a time as that is all I can afford right now. Also, I am seriously considering crossfire in the future (ATI might be a better choice for gpu). So, what do you think?

Playing With (and honoring) the Dead

So, don't know if this has been suggested before (probably has but whatever) so I am going to make a NEW topic about it. In my personal opinion, being able to manipulate dead bodies of survivors, bandits, heros and maybe even zombies would be a good idea and add to the realism and immersion of Dayz if it were implimented. Some of the ideas here would work well once ragdoll physics is introduced. Dayz is enjoyable for me, but it has its shortfalls like any mod or game. Something that I always thought was interesting about Dayz in particular is that when someone gets whacked (be that by zombie or otherwise) the body of the person stays in the spot where he died, emmiting a sound of buzzing flies to simulate a dead, rotting body. I like this mechanic allot, because it adds allot more to the environment and the realism. Get rid of "Hide Body": In order to properly hide a body you must physically move it to a more concealed location or dig a grave and place the dead body in it. Dragging: The option to drag body could be used to pull the dead in off the street into a building for a safer area to be examined and pilfered, or be used to hide your victims in bushes or ditches so the next unsuspecting bambi will walk right by thinking its safe! (dragging can already be done in ARMA if the player is unconcious so why not dead bodies) Dig a Grave: If you wanted to hide the body entirely, you would have to dig a grave. Being able to put a dead body in the ground and then cover it up could also serve as a means of sanitation, because everyone knows that having dead people laying in the streets without burial will attract unwanted scavengers but will also become a breeding ground for bacteria and disease! (I recall rocket wanting to add more onto the whole sickness and infection aspect). And for the players who care (heroes and such) it could be used to give a propper resting place for a friend who didn't make it, or a bambi who got sniped on the beach. Dig Up Grave: For those scavenging types, digging up a grave could offer the reward of finding loot on a corpse, but a shovel would be needed and a certain amount of time would be needed to properly dig up the gravesite. Grave Marker: Using a piece of firewood and a hunting knife you could carve the name of the person in the grave, allong with a short message. Trophy: Keep heads, fingers, ears, eyes, noses or other bodyparts as a trophy! Gruesome? Hell yeah! But hey, its the apocalypse! Maybe have the ability to attach trophies to your clothing or put them on your vehicle. Decomposition: Bodies of players that have been left out go through the five stages of decomposition (fresh, bloat, active decay, advanced decay, dry/skeletal). Heavily decomposed bodies would be a cesspool of disease and infection (would work well with the disease system in standalone). People would be able to judge how long ago someone died by how decomposed the body was. Have an option for bodies not to despawn on server restarts, but to despawn naturally through time. A few issues that I think would come up with the above suggestions - how the five stages of decomposition will transition from one stage to another and how that would effect server load. Maybe just three stages: fresh body, decomposed body, skeleton (and of course body despawn after that). - Humanity bonus when putting a body into a grave as opposed to leaving the body on the ground? Maybe only a bonus for those you have been around for more than a certain amount of time? - How would the grave marker system work? Maybe a few different types of markers such as crosses, wooden slab, wooden slab with picture, wooden pole etc. Any other ideas/ constructive criticism? Please comment!

I agree. If anything the ability to drag a dead body needs to be in the game above all.

    Littlebird vs the UH1H

The huey is now synonymous with DayZ. It would seem sort of strange to take it out now...but if it were taken out it need be replaced by an Mi-17 or somesuch with the addition of a littlebird of course.

    heavy weaponry

I love mortars, I really do! They are just so freaking awesome and kick ass! I remember how fantastic the mortar was in Far Cry 2...it was insanely difficult to learn but when you finally mastered it...oh boy you could rain death down on that patrol from 1000 meters away no problem. Usually I am the first to list all of the civilian and lower tech military weaponry that should be added in place of acogs, red dots and .50 cal sniper rifles. For some reason I look at this idea of a mortar and think it could actually fit in DayZ. A very rare item that could only be found only in "combat outpost" type military areas. It would not be found in barracks but would be found already in its mortar pit completely set up with several HE and a few smoke rounds in a neat order beside it. In a situation like what would happen in DayZ chances are allot of military outposts and checkpoints would be entirely overrun or abandoned thereby sometimes leaving some unique weaponry around. It would be a small, man portable mortar. No bigger than 60mm but would need multiple people to be able to carry both their survival gear and the tube, ammo, plates etc. It could be used to attack camps or plaster an area with a high density of Z's from a fair distance away. The mortar would have to be very difficult to use probably requiring good mathematical skills to calculate where the mortar round will be hitting using your map, compass and whatever else you would need to fire mortars. Plus if you have a dirty shiper somewhere on that hillside and you have the extremely rare mortar and know how to use it....you really don't need to know the exact position of the sniper, just keep popping them until the shots stop!

    Share your "betrayal" stories

I was a newspawn and I met this fellow at balota airfield. He had an AKM, I had an axe. He didn't talk much, but we seemed to be getting allong OK. We traveled together for awhile, looting a few areas and talking a bit. We came to a field and he stopped, looked at me and said: Its time for you to go. I protested stating we were doing so well...he shot me in the head and took my stuff. I respawned later on and made my way to electro. As I entered the city from the north I decided to hit up the office building to check for good loot. As I got up the stairs I heard the framiliar sound of AKM fire and massive zombie aggro. I carefully crept to the edge of the rooftop looking into the grocery store...and guess who it was? I put my sights on his heart and waited until he saw me. He looked straight at me and I said over direct: "you know, you really should not have done me over like that it was real unfriendly" and shot him in the heart. He fell and as he bled out I finished him off with a makarov shot to the skull. Lesson learned you backstabbing dickweed.

    Denser Vegetation.

This would be good! It does feel totally empty when you are walking through the woods which isn't bad in some cases, but it would be nice to have a variety of very, very dense vegitation and very open vegitation. Would improve the game allot!

Playing With (and honoring) the Dead

A very shameless bump. I added a few things in, those might be interesting to some. All in all I think that more can be done with the dead and more options should be made available in the standalone eventually (after all the core work has been done).

    What is considered a "Forest"

it would be cool if you could actually chop down trees and shrubs to use as firewood. Imagine going up to a tree and chopping it down for two mins, watching it fall and then dividing pieces up, placing the cut pieces into your truck and then brining those pieces back to camp. I would love this.
  24. Admins who abuse their powers for advantage (or because they are butthurt) are jerkoffs to the highest level. I do not like playing on servers where admins spawn stuff in even just to "help" players because I think it ruins the DayZ experience. The only time I could see spawning helicopters and high tier loot as an admin would be for a special server event that might happen once every two months or something. Even if they do not abuse power but everyone on their server spawns with an m4a1cco and all the gear it defeats the purpose completely.

Every hero skin is a duck?

Not sure if this glitch still works but it did awhile ago: There is a glitch where you can become a hero without even blood bagging anyone at all. You just need 1 blood bag and another person who has been shot in the foot once or twice with a makarov. 1. Walk up to the person and scroll down to "give blood transfusion" 2. When your character bends over and starts the repairing (or healing) animation, step back and the animation will stop. 3. Look in your inventory and you will see bloodbag still there. 4. Rinse and repeat It usually takes 2-5 times before you become hero depending on level of humanity. Also, the person who is being bagged will not gain any blood out of it. I learned this glitch from a fellow I met ingame. He was real friendly and we got to liking each other pretty well and he showed me the glitch. Wish I could see that fellow again, he sure was awesome. Unfortunately our friendship was cut when bandits carrying as50s and 249's ran into the town and started shooting everyone. Lucky for me, I got out barely alive with two bandit kills to avenge my fallen comrade. He died that day, there on the cold, hard asphalt, a death he certainly did not deserve. He died while drawing the bandits attention away from me so I could escape. A true hero he was.
