  1. No... In the mod we had some text appear each time we logged in stating your location (Chernerus or Namalsk etc) along with Day 0 or Day 1, 2, 3 etc... Ultimately I'd like to see male character growing beards which they have a choice/chance to shave. Given the terrible aim/bullet dispersion in the SA so far we could see this being on account of you being an un-trained civilian but as you use weapons more or as your character gets older the accuracy on weapons increases as if your skill goes up. You get a higher chance of cooking better quality food and crafting better quality items as you do it (learning). Alternatively if this is too hard to code into this game then we could have Steam achievements for goals like: Serial Killer - 25 player kills Mass Murderer - 100 player kills Zombie Hunter - 100 zombie kills Zombie Slayer - 200 zombie kills Survivor - 5 days without dying Veteran Survivor - 20 days without dying etc... And when I say days I think it was the number of times you logged into the server after 24 hours had passed or on separate dates. So logging into the server on a character then re-logged still counted as one day, but the next day if I logged in it would count as a different day.... basically the setup the mod had. No... they shouldn't.... This is DayZ... don't get it, get out. I don't agree with killing "fresh spawns" or "unarmed players" BUT we only have the alpha state of the game to blame for this right now. Why? Spawns are too close together creating an easy hunting ground for "bambi killers". Military loot is available on the coast. Civilian weapons besides the Mosin (I have only ever found one, compared to maybe... 10 M4A1s, 5 Magnums and 2 other pistols) have not yet been added. If the devs removed the Balota military grade loot spawns and limited that stuff to the NWAF, NEAF and certain other north or central military bases, spread out the spawns around the coast (avoiding the north east) and added in civilian weaponry evenly spread in logical locations like farm weapons in barns, occasional civilian weapon in the mansions, hunting gear in the hunting nests and rifles in the offices, police/fire stations etc.. then players have a chance to survive more, people have a reason to go north and it will be harder to kill "bambis" as they can more easily find a weapon to defend themselves with.

    Spawn locations.

It needs to be spread evenly around the cost, but avoiding major locations. Why? Because limiting spawns to very small areas increases the "death match" mentality and it reduces the area that fresh spawn killers must hunt in order to grief. However I think no matter how you do it people will just suicide and spawn again to get the better spawn locations so you may as well just keep the mod spawn locations. Just add a timer so you cannot "respawn" within an hour of creating that character unless you die normally. To be honest by the time half the people have wasted 30 minutes to an hour dying over and over again to get a good spawn they probably could have found a crap load of loot anyway. Besides I think that "military" grade loot should be limited to the North and centre of the map with "civilian" grade loot spread evenly everywhere else. So spawning anywhere on the coast gives you an even chance, unless you get Cherno/elektro in which there are more chances for weapons and medical stuff, food etc... but then again it is more dangerous with the number of zombies and players. Having military stuff available from the get go is in my opinion a mistake and then we cannot condemn the spawns until all the other weapons are in the game. In the mod I could find a barn and maybe find a Lee Enfield, that weapon was good enough for me to deal with bandits, accurate with 1 shot KO, I take that! But right now it is a mess because we only have two rifles and one can be gained so close to the spawn areas.

    will there be Cheats/Private servers

I was part of a whitelist private hive and they handled the loot and weapons very sensibly, they took out weapons that the devs didn't want in the game such as the thermal scoped L85A2 etc.. I like private hives because people cannot combat ghost you or server hop for loot and you could meet people in the server you have a better chance of bonding with, while still maintaining enough new people to keep it fresh. As for "cheats" ... fuck no this will lead to hackers once again. Only "cheats" I would deem acceptable would be admin powers to spawn items from the loot table and relocate people (especially if they get trapped in the debug lands or in the middle of the sea for no reason).... you can use them on a private server for machinima, otherwise no as it is too open to hackers and abuse.

Accuracy comparison: DayZ vs ARMA 2

But not all ammo is crap, the other day I was able to stock 3 (coupled mags) full of 60 rounds each (one loaded) with a spare mag with 30 rounds in all pristine ammo for my M4A1 sporting all pristine parts except a "worn" silencer... then the ladder killed me... Point being the figures given are default figures from the files so unless we can find 50+ different files and sets of figures each for different weapons configurations and ammo qualities and the fact we cannot see our overall weapon quality right now I cannot see this being the cause. And putting it down to us being an untrained civilian is silly unless they give us a progression system of some kind so the more you fire a weapon then your skill goes up and the inaccuracy should go down... until you die and start over.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113953

Really? .... no... Spawns should be spread out all along the cost South West, South, South East, East. Once the civilian weapons get added in and evenly distributed I hope they will limit the military grade weapons to the north. This will reduce the "death match" or mass killings I have read so much about in the current limited spawn areas and give fresh spawn killers a much larger area to hunt (increasing the chances of you not being killed as soon as you spawn by a player).
  6. Last time I tried using a typical compass when on the move it gave a very inaccurate reading. I had to stand still with it for it to stabilize. And it can be used when on the move so I fail to see the problem.

Hacker just Teleported me to middle of water.

You are trapped in the de-bug lands. If you are stuck there, best way is death somehow or contact a server admin (if there is one) to have you moved.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!

Number 1 - Auto-run gets you killed because your not paying as much attention as you do when your in full control Number 2 - Use a coin or something to pin your W key down. Number 3 - Vehicles will be added into the game, finding and maintaining one of them will allow you to travel greater distances faster.

    What do these numbers mean?

On the topic of numbers, does anyone know what the number 100 means top right of the screen when you have your ranged weapon out? To check on rounds remaining I always open the inventory, but I have no idea what that random 100 means as it does't change.

    ## hour player lock / Gear locked to server!

Best way to dampen down server hopping and prevent "ghosting" is to add a 15-30 minute lock timer for joining a second server within X time of leaving the first. So: You join Server A, leave Server A and join Server B within 5 minutes of leaving server A. When you leave Server B you get hit with a 15-30 minute countdown locking you to Server B. Unfortunately if you are unluck enough to have two de-syncs with both servers then you will have to wait the timer out. Alternatively You join Server A, leave Server A and join Server B within 5 minutes of leaving Server A. As soon as you connect to Server B you are hit with a 30-45 minute lock to Server B preventing you from quickly moving back to Server B or on to Server C if it a quick loot dash hop. This one will prevent someone from ghosting and may dampen down loot server hopping. I am looking forward to a private hive where none of this is possible.

    How difficult should it be?

Alpha bat incoming!! It is Alpha and so half of the features are missing. Right now the main causes of death are other players and bugs. In the full game you will have more zombies, better zombies, zombie hordes, illness/poisoning, players etc.. Shooting a loud gun in a town will attract zombies, zombies will go into horde mode on your ass, there will be wondering groups of zombie in the wilderness etc.. In a perfect world we would have seasons like winter added to the game (even if it is a server setting a host must turn on) and before you know it players have to wear "warm" clothes, use camp fires for warmth (also can attract zombies) and must not be outside for too long. It also makes all of our camo and dark coloured gear useless as lots of stuff will be white making us greater targets for bandits.... Just relax dude, point of Alpha is to stress test, find and fix bugs and carve out how the features should work etc... This game hasn't even begun yet.
  12. The problem in the game right now is not exactly KoS, it is the KoS and griefing of un-armed fresh-spawns. The only way to solve that is move military grade gear North and to the centre of the map, evenly spread out civilian grade weapons and spread out the spawns all along the coasts which will stop certain "spawn towns" becoming death matches and mass graveyards. But I agree, zombies in the mod were really attracted to the sound of a Lee Enfield, so they should be even more attracted to gunshots in the full game and don't forget we will have wondering hordes of zombies too.. in theory.

My wish for the release version

For ladders to get fixed! Hehe just visited the "military base" south west in the map, looting one of the barracks I noticed two guys outside so I made for the door but one arrived before me so I swung it shut in his face. A shot rang out so I opened fire through the window, scared him off so I made a run for it. They thought I was still inside and fired round after round through those windows. I flanked around the hospital building and shot one in the back, I took some ammo off him and heard a foot step on metal so I legged it into the hospital and made my way to the roof. From the roof I saw the second guy on the metal pipeline walk, killed him. Went to loot the body, got plenty of ammo and vital supplies.... fully geared up... time to evac and survive up North.... nope the ladder had other ideas... fresh spawn.

    Major bugs in my opinion

Dude he is only trying to help report bugs..... Yes, it is alpha so well done to zeta for writing this.

    System to Punish KoS

I thought this was already in the game? Shoot their backpack there is a % chance the items in the backpack will either be destroy or damaged etc... We don't need any systems against KoS, we just need to spread the spawns out over a much larger distance and not bunched up, military loot to be made rarer and only in the far reaches of the map with civilian grade weaponry spread evenly across all of the map with a little more in key buildings. This will mean certain locations don't start off as a massive death match, the griefers won't be able to find the fresh spawns as easily, people have to go further to get the really good stuff but otherwise everyone could potentially find weapons. I am not against KoS, I am against people hunting fresh spawns and un-armed survivors on the cost, but otherwise KoS is fine in my perspective... that is just me though and I wouldn't tell anyone that they cannot...
  16. Nor is there anything in the ROA for Battlefield about kicking people based on the weapons they use or their skill... yet admins do because if they paid for their servers then they can.
  17. Which is another problem, when they disconnect unconscious or in any combat situation then their character should stay in the game world for a few minute and of course if they die then the body should stay there for longer. I still think that logging off in the "wilderness" which is anywhere not inside a building then your character stays there for 2-3 minutes. If you log off inside of a building or any sort (including tents) then you log off instantly. If you are in combat or have been within X amount of seconds/minutes then you get the 2-3 minutes. So if your KO but not dead and log, your character stays there and will naturally give the server time to say... well you logged your coward... your dead... and then your body is a corpse to be looted.
  18. If it is their server then yes they can, it is their rules. Just like in the Battlefield games plenty of servers annoyingly ban the use of grenade launchers (noob tubes) or RPGs on infantry etc.... So as much as we might disagree with their rule, it is their rule and they have every right to ban you for breaking it.

PvE Server - Killed by a Human

Is this guy trolling or being series?
  20. The problem is not that people want to just KoS or grief others... there are lunatics out there.... the problem is that with the current Alpha setup it just turns into one big deathmatch FFA on the coast... I hardly came across that in the mod except for the occasional bandit snipers or in cherno/elektro. With the spawns in such a small area and military loot so close to the coast this will turn into a simple PvP game from the get go. Until spawns are spread out, military grade equipment is limited to the north or harder to find bases and civilian grade weapons even spread out then we will continue to see this. It is not about saying no, you should not being doing this... it is about how this is all the game boils down to. I got away because I was lucky to spawn randomly in the centre of the map.... every other time I was on the coast I tried to befriend people where I was instantly attacked with fists... I was laughing as people tried chasing me to punch me for nothing or I was running around looking for food (hard to find before patch 2) and some kind stands there going "like it when I shoot you huh?" and kept shooting me until I died... I was laughing me head off as his attempt as a hard guy bandit KoS thing... But honestly... KoS all you like, but the game needs to be more unpredictable so the KoS has to hunt for their targets and it feels more like a zombie horror and not a spawn in, find a gun, kill players deathmatch.

Do you have a home yet?

I tend to avoid the big towns due to crap FPS. However this aspect of finding a "home" is something I find very interesting in DayZ and would to see once we get proper tents and a form of this base building Rocket talked about. That way we can turn buildings into our homes, not a fortress as every barbed wire fence can be cut, every wood fence can be smashed in etc... but it is a delay and allows anyone inside time to defend... if they are logged in. I have yet to find a home.
  22. I just wish that when people get shot they accept their death and start again and don't combat log or Alt+Tab to hide their now dead body from their killer. Combat Logging has annoyed me ever since in the mod I was travelling west along the coast, heard shots and went to investigate. Found two bandits sniping new spawns so I trained my Lee Enfield and fire, took them both down. My aim was to knock them both out before they could just shoot me back, but this gave them a chance to combat log and deny me my kill and them their deaths.... cowards.
  23. 3rd Option. DayZ is about survival, but a part of survival is looting a building when you realise that running across the neighbouring field are three other players, armed to the teeth with ranged and melee weapons, wearing helmets, masks and all. Do you train scoped rifle out of the window and open fire, killing them all? Or risk them going to ground and flanking your position? Do you wait for them and then try to parley with them? Do you sneak out of the door and make a run for it hoping they stop to search the building and didn't see you? See DayZ is about choices, right now it is plagued by people who choose KoS new spawns and have a very single minded approach to what they want from DayZ and I will admit that in a post-apocalyptic world you will have gangs or groups of people who will range from survivors, zombie slayers to bandits as well as the lone survivors who will do what ever they can to survive.... though I do condemn the fresh spawn killing as it is rather unrealistic and does not fit with the game's... immersion. So right now PvP is unbalanced and partially because there is no need to team up except for at some point I might get lonely and would like the idea of talking to someone and exploring the world and killing bandits together. But it is not just the lack of a need for help, but also the easy of available for higher grade weapons not too far from the coast or on it... once they are removed and we can a rather even spread of civilian available weapons across the map, sticking near the cost won't be that attractive, especially if military grade weapons are in the North and centre of the map only.

This new patch guys ...... myaaah?

Just remove all western military grade weapons and gadgets from the game and only have them spawn on rare helicopter crash sites. Add in more eastern style military grade weapons at military locations (remove any barracks and prevent any military weapons on the coast). Add in more common civilian grade weapons along with farming and the occasional police grade weapons scattered around residential, official, farm locations with some hunting rifles found in the hunting towers. That way people have more locations to search. After patch 2 fixed the food spawn problems on the coast people generally seem to stay there, especially people who just want to kill the new spawns. I have been living in the North and centre of the map and so far I have heard gunshots from someone shooting zombies but could not find the player... I have so far not actually seen anyone even after a visit to the NWAF on a high pop server. We need to make the rest of the map attractive for people to explore, these strange locations like castles could becomes interesting locations, military bases rarer to find and hotter locations to explore... but also when the ability to erect our own tents and build fences again are put in this will make make people go to all corners of the map searching for camps and good hiding places. Not to mention there are at least two castles on the vanilla map which could be awesome to explore.
