This is why we can't have nice things... Well if the game has "suicide" and "murder" as part of it then I don't see why we can't have the writing mechanic back in. Anyone leaving racist messages could be traced I'm sure through admin logs and banned.... Could even do a witch hunt and kill him on the server haha

From what I have read and seen in YouTube is that you can still knock down/destroy the walls and doors in the Epoch mod to get inside the "base". However I too would be concerned as Chernerus is way too small right now to allow base building like in the Epoch mod as people will be making every other building a "home"... These kind of boarded up buildings should be something you occasionally come across but if we have it on the scale like epoch every castle, office, firestation, barracks etc.. would be claimed. So there would have to be limitations or ways to prevent people making homes in every single building. Also base building would have to be server specific otherwise there would be conflicts (server/data) side as people homes might be in the same place on the hive so if you join a server you have not built your base on then you will have no base etc...

PvE only? ... Sure you can do it... but there should not be servers dedicated to it. Just watch out for the bandits who might want to kill you too.

Take death like a man ... or woman!

You're missing the point. He wants to hold someone up, not kill them. So he "warns" them to stop moving, put away their weapon and/or put their hands up.... but these players are not complying or responding and instead turning which will get them shot.

DayZ is NOT fun for new players, which makes me worried.
Lancer 2-2 replied to Murakamo's topic in General Discussion
This game is not for everyone and secondly remember this is only the Alpha stage and is therefore missing any game intro, character intro or any start game dialogue. You press play, you spawn and you survive. If you spawn on the coast, find a road sign and inform you team mate... you can then either remember where that is on the coast and run to them or if you really don't know and wish to ruin the fun of "adventure" then you can use some of the various web-browser based maps of Chernerus. I personally liked knowing where I am, looking for signs and trying to remember locations. My last spawn I was in the middle of no where and decided to head NW with only a compass to guide me, I ran past the NWAF and ended up on the edge of the map, turned around and found it, then I went south east and then south west and finally found the locations I was aiming for while searching towns along the way. If you want to find towns, best to follow the roads inland and avoid the big cities, but try not to run on the road but off to one side in the trees keeping an eye out. -
Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]

Not wanting to loose your gear should be something we should care about during full release when we shouldn't be killed by silly bugs. Like how I managed to kill two guys at a base, looted their bodies and had 3 coupled magazines of ammo for my full modified M4A1... the unfortunate part of it was a ladder killed me as I tried to get down it. I was laughing though as I was just saying to myself "I bet the ladder throws me off" and it did! Haha! -
any one else notice clothing starting to get damp?
Lancer 2-2 replied to irl-calibre's topic in General Discussion
I would love it if we had rain and that, swimming and running through pools makes your clothes "damp". Wearing damp clothes for too long gives you a cold giving your character a coughing and/or sneezing sound effect and reduces your health slightly and making your hungry faster. Which means we have to dry our clothes out when they are "damp" by making a fire and keeping warm (we can have camp fires and barrel fires with some fuel and wood) and staying near it to warm up and dry off. If we ever get rain then wearing a waterproof should protect you from dampness unless you go swimming or stand in a pond/stream. If it gets cold and we have snow, then like on Namalsk standing in a T-shirt or shirt should make you cold and you would require warm weather clothes and making fires to keep warm and sheltering indoors out of the elements. This means we can have more warm weather clothes added and new raincoats instead of the basic multi-coloured ones so we can have military jackets too etc.. -

You may have my beans. This is an old discussion and there are servers for everyone, so stop complaining and let us move onto a different topic. -
My system will work: You need to be inside/under shelter to log out instantly If you log out in the "wilderness" or outside then your character is left in the gameworld for 1 minute. If you are shot at and the round lands within X metres of you or you fire your gun you are in combat for 30 seconds... if you log out during that time your character is left in the gameworld for 1 minute. The 30 seconds is refreshed every time you fire or fired upon. This eliminates combat logging and adds an extra level of depth to the game.

DayZ start button (icon) "play" -dont react
Lancer 2-2 replied to Anubisx84x1's topic in General Discussion
Did you delete your DayZ profile settings folder usually located somewhere in my documents (if it is the same as the Arma 2 one)? Re-installing the game won't be any good if it is one of those settings files that get left behind and are still there even after you re-install. -
Idea - please devs and admins read my topic
Lancer 2-2 replied to MagnuZ's topic in General Discussion
Yea CCP (developers of EVE Online) have this sort of thing, one or two devs that create videos (often quite amusing) to showcase what the next patch/expansion will contain, what they are working on including maybe one or two interviews and sneak peaks. -
Idea - please devs and admins read my topic
Lancer 2-2 replied to MagnuZ's topic in General Discussion
Basically they need a PR guy, IE a dev who's primary focus is communicating via facebook, twitter, youtube videos, forums etc.. the change-logs, the up-coming features, the what is planned, with videos of the team working etc.. Is that what you are suggesting? -
Would love this, we can have Namalsk style cold where you have to be near a fire or/and wearing warm clothes so a hoodie, T-shirt, shirt won't cut it and a Rain Coat won't keep you warm for long. Proper winter clothing would need to be found... this is the east and eastern countries can have really harsh winters... just think of the Russian winter.

I never saw any and only found out recently the feature to draw with pens was disabled but.... in a game that features zombies, killing, the ability to humiliate players and suicide.... what was wrong with people drawing dicks? On topic, I would like to see maps handled just like the new compass where you physically hold it in your hand and have to bring it up to view it. Somehow we should be able to wrote on it using a pen to mark areas of interest, the location of our camp or someone else's camp etc.. Only the player can see the drawing on the map unless they are killed and someone loots the map, so long as it is not ruined they should be able to view it and see the markings.

Please for the love of god don't add "Sanity."

You sir can have my beans. KoS is part of the game, it is PvP, it is a player decision. I have had two examples of this during my play time, I was looting a building when the server de-synced with me so I had to find a new server. I logged in only to find when I opened the front door two guys sitting down in the road trying to take screenshots of each other (they were geared up reasonably well). I had 20 rounds on my M4A1 and figured they would probably run to cover and siege me in the house if I tried to communicate or shoot me if I emerged from the building, so I killed them both. Later had a fight to killed two more at a military base further south before a ladder decided I should die too. HOWEVER... gearing up simply to camp the coastal regions with the intention to kill un-armed fresh spawns is very unfair on them and very immersion breaking. Coming across another armed-survivor or someone who may have good gear and killing them for it... fine... be my guest... but I just hate the mentality to go camp the spawn zones. When spawns are evenly spreads and civilian weapons available then it won't be as easy for the "bambi killers". -
Or.... If you log out in the "wilderness" then your character is trapped in the gameworld for up to a minute, but logging out in doors (in cover) means you log out immediately providing an added dynamic to the purpose of finding shelter and camping etc... For combat, can we not have a 30 second or 1 minute timer where if you are fired upon (round lands within X distance of you) or fire your weapon you are "in combat" which means if you log out regardless of being outside or inside you are stuck in the gameworld for 1 minute. This is based off a very similar system for an old and now unfortunately closed MMO called Roma Victor.

Third person view removal from SA discussion
Lancer 2-2 replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
What is wrong with having Veteran servers 1p only with regular servers 3p running on the same official DayZ hive? And of course private hives have a choice if they want 1p or 3p. This way we don't split the community with different hives and everyone is satisfied. -
Winter Survival: The Northern Expedition
Lancer 2-2 replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If the Namalsk map can incorporate cold and environmental side affects on your health then I'm sure parts of the map in DayZ SA could if we expanded north to a snowy mountain like terrain where we had snow and not just different coloured textures, running speed was reduced, some kind of tracks left in the snow for a short while until it snowed over again, the cold made you shake, you could catch an illness and die if you did not find warmth. So making camp fires, being inside and wearing warm clothing is vital. This base could hold some form of weapon that only exists up there, like a .50 cal, the ONLY .50 cal sniper rifle, other weapons and military gear are plenty in stock with some food, but not enough food to warrant camping forcing you to come out and hunt wild animals (like dear) which of course with loud weapons runs you the chance of being killed by other players or zombies. -
Look the only reason you notice this so much right now is because of the easy access to weapons with military bases very close to or on the coast itself. If they were to be removed with civilian weaponry evenly spread across the map with spread out spawns then it will be harder for these so called "bambi killers" to find a target to grief, and when they do there is a higher chance they can fight back. Once you get private hives you can use one of them so people cannot server hop or combat ghost and I am hoping for some kind of server lock timer for attempting to chance servers within X amount of time, again putting a damp cloth on server hopping.

I'd love to see the map handled just like the new compass rather than appearing... when you consider how they are handling everything else including the compass having the map randomly appear blocking everything else out of view is somewhat silly. Otherwise I have no problem with finding either a whole map, half a map or a quarter.

The amount in which items get damaged when you take hits will be tweaked over time, but in my opinion makes sense. It is just a little over the top how things get ruined. A single bullet hole or tear on a shirt/coat won't ruin it, it will just make it damaged or badly damaged. I'm sure in the full game we can repair items such as weapons and clothing with the right parts/tools.

I would love to see the tents as actual tents and not just storage units. I would love to see a system where logging out in the "wilderness" means your character stays in the world for up to 3 minutes, but logging off inside of a building or cover (such as a tent) means you log off instantly unless you are in combat (like a timer from the last moment you were shot at means your character remains in the world until that timer runs out) which will remove combat logging. If we have the small 1 or 2 man tents we had in the mod then we can go prone and enter them and we could have different tents including larger ones we can crouch or walk into.
