Rocket Check This!!! Idea to stop most bullshit.
SumoS replied to TheWeedMan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Agreed. I would at least like to see an admin channel that displays these. Hopefully other admins would not abuse this. -
Agree with Wiky. If they did decide to implement anything like this they would need to balance rewards for non-player kills as well. Maybe the bandit skin will make a come-back as another drop but this idea would reward a specific type of behavior and cause a number of other problems.

Jerry cans hold 20 litres. Helicopters hold 1000 litres. No need to change anything. The Heli should be a pain to keep fueled and force people to plan out their routes effectively. [Edit] Missed a digit on the 1000 /bonkhead

LAN Character to Internet Character?
SumoS replied to PointlessPerson's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No. If you want a persistent character you will need to be connected to a HIVE server online. -
If someone is running a bot, it is probably unlikely they will have bot in their name. Or it could be a double-bluff! :(

Understanding an "Alpha"
SumoS replied to Mad_Vengeance (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Currently they are adding features. That is the definition of an alpha. Compare it to someone spinning plates. At the moment they are seeing what other plates they can add, chopping and changing the system so they can efficiently spin more plates, without the whole thing falling and shattering on the floor. Once they have got the plates spinning regularly they can focus on ironing out the bugs and polishing. -
Not a good idea in my opinion. If they do not reward non-bandit gameplay, why should they reward kills? People camping Cherno and Elektro to get the Ghillie. This does not reward actual skill. If anything they should start making it harder to get high kills.

Great tunes though. :)

As far as I know, aren't they infected? That would explain why they actively chase players. Something they could perceive as 'hostile'. They would then continue to maul and devour a survivor due to the infection. Personally I feel that there should be several strains of infection. i.e. Airborne and contact strains. We as survivors would be immune to airborne strains but could still be susceptible to extensive bites. Just imagine having to decide what to do with your buddy that could potentially turn on you. That would lead to some amazing stories.

Bohemia and Dayz Devs fail to protect their community
SumoS replied to BIOSEMTEX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you were loyal in the first place you would stand by them regardless. With them working on all the issues and already pushing the boundaries of what is capable on the engine you should appreciate what they need to do. This post achieves nothing. I am sure they want to do everything you ask for, but sadly that is all added on to the 'to-do' pile. Thank you for actively expressing yourself for your first post but in reality please just read what others have written already and see the responses from the team. -
What kind of landscape would you like to see in a DayZ stand alone game?
SumoS replied to scouski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally I would love to see the landscape be varied in the sense that it could have: Coastal areas Grassland Tundra Mountains Much higher snowy areas Desert areas are a no-go and would be heavily specified. I still think Eastern Europe would be the best option. I love the fact that the signs are in Cyrillic and the landscape is somewhat different from the norm. The fact that it avoids the usual stereotypical apocalyptic areas (New York, London, etc) is what gives Chernarus character. For the above options to work the playing area would have to be significant but each of those biomes would provide a different play-style, in conjunction with hazards native to that area. Just my thoughts. -
DON'T LET STEAM UPDATE OA!! Game breaking!
SumoS replied to happylarry77's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sorry... had to... -
I think it is just someone jumping on the band wagon. With no previous releases I will wait until the features have been implemented to see what is what. As far as we know so far, they have just adapted a game in their current publisher's lineup with screenshots. With the sheer amount of copycat games being released, that are jumping on popular trends, it is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Oh and you do realize that it will probably have MMO combat? you will probably have a hotbar and cooldowns. It will be nowhere near the shooting experience in Arma 2. If that is what you are after check out Survarium and save yourself some time. Check PC Gamer for a rundown: http://www.pcgamer.c...llels-to-day-z/ "The game’s being developed by Hammerpoint Interactive, a new developer. According to Sergey Titov, Executive Producer, they began development last fall. “The major difference is that DayZ is a fantastic mod for a hardcore military simulation game,” Hammerpoint Interactive Senior Game Designer Eric Nordin says in an interview with IGN about the game. “We are creating a standalone game, with the entire world designed around a zombie apocalypse, so that players feel completely immersed in that environment. Just another sub-par company releasing a RPG clone in a modern apocalyptic setting. I will happily retract my statements once there is some gameplay that shows all of the features stated above." Don't get me wrong, they have novel ideas and I am inclined to believe that they are going for accessibility which caters for a number of people. Considering that this will probably be a MMO I would have thought they would need to put more than a year in.

Thank you for all of your posts and providing evidence, This is being dealt with and the supposed hackers are being investigated. I am working in cooperation with my server supplier and the devs towards a positive conclusion to this instance of hacking. As far as I am aware, there should be no choppers on this server and they will not respawn. If they are on it then they are most likely hacked. Please do not enter hacked vehicles as this may be used as evidence against you as well. Please report their locations and if possible anyone using them as I can then investigate if they have spawned them. As far as I am concerned NoRegrets this lot have helped remove a hacker from this game and as such they have my thanks. There is no need to investigate every single person and as such no need to be completely paranoid. Have some faith in people as I surely have faith in these players who are regularly on the server. If anyone else has anything positive to add, be it evidence or a worthwhile contribution, please feel free to post. If you are just bumping up your forum post count please look elsewhere. Kind regards, SumoS

NATO weapons at HELO sites and additional weapons.
SumoS replied to count_blackula's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Agreed. The first things that would be used are the higher calibre military weapons. Afterwards the rural/civilian weapons would need to be used out of desperation. One could argue that the civilian weapons would be used first but considering that the military forces are all zombified/infected I would have thought that the supplies had been used and very little would have been left. Plus surely there would only have been only local military weapons instead of the vast armory that they currently have. Just my thoughts. -
Nice editing and good teamwork. Interesting how people give beans on their own posts.

If Day Z did actually happen there would be a major shortage of ammo and you would be heavily outnumbered so I'm all for this idea. That way if you find ammo it is a major event and should save it for more important matters. Just run!

Taking away even more access to our servers?
SumoS replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Same issues and concerns. I am just struggling to use HFB's configuration tool as an alternative. Changes are not saved and its is heavily limiting how I can manage my server. I have not kicked/banned a single person or edited any file I was not supposed to. I followed the name convention before it was forcefully changed and was informed by HFB themselves to edit the server name once it came to my attention they had assigned another clan our server name and number. Secondly the automatic restart function does not work as it should. It times out and in some cases can be abused if you do not get kicked or leave. Hence why I have to log on, let people know it will be restarting and apologize constantly for down time caused by something that is now out of my control. In regards to locking, I fail to see how locking a server for 5 minutes before a restart is an offence in any way. Surely it should be regular locking that leads to any sanctions being made. I appreciate the server suppliers detect these changes automatically and just send out the generic email warning people of the sanctions but I wish there were better functions put into place so we do not have our hands forced by some higher source. We signed up to a number of terms and rules, however these seem very lop-sided in their current form. This leads me to believe that BIS is enforcing the security of the mod, in cooperation with BattlEye and the server suppliers, in order to better protect their material for a full-blown game. Which is what is expected to happen. I just wish they would realize the service we are providing to them and give us the tools so we can better enforce these ourselves. If Rocket has stated he wants the players to define what the Day Z experience is, why are the server admins prevented from performing our duties? -
I'm afraid I've had to advise friends/family against this fine mod (why?)
SumoS replied to Mr Muggles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The money you spent was on Arma 2. If you are looking for a sandbox game please play the campaign or the scenarios in this excellent game. You may have purchased this for DayZ but in reality Day Z is free and still in Alpha. If you want it your way please wait until it is released as a standalone game in which you may have your own closed-server or direct connect. In reality please read up on what you are paying for it future. -
Best places to consistently loot cans/sodas?
SumoS replied to Fryseboks's topic in New Player Discussion
Supermarkets. Appartments have a high chance of spawning them but the highest by far will be supermarkets. -
Suggestion: blood regen and self blood transfusions
SumoS replied to tank77's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You do get hungry and thirsty when you log out for a period of time. -
Suggestion: blood regen and self blood transfusions
SumoS replied to tank77's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This will remove the necessity for basic survival goods early on. The only thing I would suggest as a compromise having blood regenerate after a much longer period of time. E.g. if someone is low on blood they could potentially rest for a long period of time to recover. This could put them at a relatively higher level of blood than they were before. If you are 4k and successfully make it somewhere safe you could try logging out. A few hours later you log back in and have 10k health, but you will also be starving and very thirsty (Realistic? Possibly). This way you still need to have your tools and food but you generate in a slightly realistic fashion instead of hiding out for a few minutes and having more blood all of a sudden. Just my thoughts. -
I have never found this level of immersion in any game so far. Especially not in a mod. For an alpha this is exquisite, I only hope that Rocket and the team continue working hard to push things even further. Some people will come and go to the next big thing but I can guarantee you that everyone will be changed by the experience Day Z has shown us in some way. For that I thank Rocket, the dev team, his support team, BIS and all of the players that have made this one of the best things I have played in recent memory.

SUGGESTION: (LONG AND IN-DEPTH!) Backstory,Immersion, and World building
SumoS replied to petward's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 had all the notes in the safe rooms and the graffiti. It was always interesting reading them and trying to piece together what happened and how it escalated. -
Dear All, The new names are up and there have been a fair few significant changes . Chicago 117 Hosted by World's End Gaming is now US 571. I just wanted to let people know and I look forward to seeing all you regulars on again. Kind regards, SumoS
