With this last update...Is Day Z... dead?
compydad replied to delfin5's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know what this update has to do with anything the OP is talking about. I've been hacked to death ever since I started playing, and see the Gangam style hack more than a few times. -
You're going to have to post your system specs for anyone to help you.

Same here. I'm assuming it's a glitch.

How to be "friendly" without getting killed?

This is a one-way ticket to death, IME. If there's more than you and they haven't seen you yet, run and hide. -

Update: I gave up on trying to play DayZ on an MBP. It was too laggy. With all settings on low, I could get a decent 25fps, but I had lag spikes every minute or so that would drop my framerate to 1-5. Unplayable. It also seemed to get lagged when there were too many zombies around. I did some profiling and it seemed like what would happen is that from time to time my GPU would drop to 0% utilization and cause a lag spike as the CPU attempted to compensate. In related news, I built the "steam box" that jackfrags had a video about not too long ago, and I'm getting 30fps on high settings. The PC cost me $536, not including keyboard, mouse and monitor--all of which I had old ones lying around.

How to be "friendly" without getting killed?

Some good advice about how to approach someone here. The main thing is to approach them when either you both have something to gain by teaming up (like you're both fresh spawns, both being hunted by some jerks in a heli, etc), or when you are clearly in a stronger position--you see them first, you're more geared up, have friends, etc. You'll also want to pick your moment. In the middle of Cherno... not so much. Running into a poorly equiped random in Kamenka, sure. Generally the further north I get, the less I assume someone will be friendly. That said, there's no guarantees. My buddy and I flagged down a Land Rover just West of the NWAF and it was full of about 7 ghillies with snipers, searching for heli crash sites. They gave us a ride (we were lost). I also teamed up with a bandit who was being plagued by the same bunch of jerks in a heli who'd killed my friend. He and I repaired a motorbike, shot the pilot out of the heli, and he ended up sacrificing himself in a 4 v 1 firefight so I could flank around to the parked heli and gun down those dicks with their own door gun. :) That guy was epic. TL;DR, keep trying, pick your moments and don't get too upset when it doesn't work out. :) -
Yeah, but this is the forum for reporting hackers, so...

I wasn't able to get a name while fleeing for my life, but I shot a ghillie sniper twice in the chest with an M24 within about 60 seconds and he did not die. It was south of the NWAF. He and his buddy were chasing me down after shooting my partner off our motorbike. If an admin is around right now, check the server logs for Fur Diaper's death. My gunshots should be shortly thereafter. -
Hey guys, not that new to DayZ, but not 100% clear on all the little quirks. I've been watching the infamous FrankieonPC's DayZ videos and noticed that he has a tendency to berate people who decide to tangle with him after he holds them up. Sometimes these guys are unconscious, but other times there's been a death notice. Do dead people hear any chat channel? My experience has been that you do not hear chat while dead. Or was this something that you used to be able to do (ie chat with recently killed players) and has since been removed? LF

Thanks!

Agreed. Nothing wrong with the vid per se, but not a tutorial.

Fairly epic. Why did he get out and engage those dudes? They were capping the Green Car, his nemesis.

The Catalyst Control Center doesn't auto-install. You have to download the installer and run it. Re: requirements... not sure what you're talking about, unless you mean the verification tool from AMD, in which case ignore it.

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?

I figured out my problem, and I'm posting it here in case there are other MacBook Pro users with the AMD 6770M (aka ATI 6770M) video card that have the same issue. The drivers that the AMD website prompts you to install are way out of date, something like 4 versions behind. Also, do not believe the AMD verification tool--a small .exe that you can run to find out if your hardware is supported. It will tell you that you haven't got an installed adapter. LIES! Anyway, the solution is to go here and download the recent beta drivers for the Radeon series: http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=371951 Note that at the time of this post it is 2012-12-30, so there may be more stable releases of the drivers by the time you are reading this. Despite the advice everywhere on the web to completely uninstall your drivers, I decided to install over top of my existing drivers. Worked fine. One thing I would recommend, although this is not tested, is that when installing choose "Custom". All the options should be selected by default. Then install. The process seemed to take longer, I got the telltale flickering as the drivers were updated (never happened with the "Express" option) and now I'm getting 25-30 fps at Very High settings. Here's a link to an imgur album with the before and after screenshots (apologies, my before screenshots did not include fps, but it was around 10): http://imgur.com/a/CUCN5 Update: I'm still getting wicked lag spikes when zombies spawn in, which obviously isn't very good, but I've dialed down my video settings to "normal" and get a pretty consistent 40-50 fps when I'm not spiking. I'll update here if I sort out the spike issue.

Thanks man, I appreciate any sort of help. Here's a link to imgur with screenshots of my Video Options. The 1440x900 resolution is the laptop built-in display. The 1680x1050 resolution is my external monitor. I figured I'd show you both for completeness. http://imgur.com/xhYWp,2nEth Btw, I've been using Fraps to check the framerate and do screenshots. Seems legit.

I'm booting in windows. I'll make a screenshot of my video options later today. You mean my DayZ Video Options, right?

What kind of fps do you get with your Mac? I've got a mid 2011 MBP running Windows 7 32 bit, with an AMD 6770M video card and I get about 5-15 fps on the lowest settings.
