Take On Helicopters (DayZ SA) flying adjustments!
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to finkone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I play ToH and only play on the highest difficulty. It is a great game and I fully support the implementation of locked max difficulty of heli's in stand alone. There have been a few other threads I've seen discussing take on helicopters, might be able to search through them to find more points to add to the OP. DayZ is a zombie survival SIM, lets try to keep as much sim gameplay involved. The helicopters should not be dumbed down for the impatient people who don't take the time to learn how to fly. I highly suggest checking out take on helicopters. There is a demo you can try here http://takeonthegame.com/take-on-demo/ keep in mind this game is not ment for keyboard/mouse players you need preferably a HOTAS control stick, but even a basic control stick from a pawn shop for $20 would work. Not to mention the added meta game added from being a skilled pilot is HUGE, I love flight simulators and have spent countless hours flying around in take on helicopters just for the fun of flying. -
Got DayZ, now I see this
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to futrpilot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ mod REQUIRES you to have Arma II and Arma II: Operation Arrowhead. The additional expansion packs/DLC are not required. However with that said, DayZ is able to and does take a few things from the expansions if they are available such as Higher res textures, slightly different and more indepth detail on various objects. I play DayZ with every available expansion/dlc installed, it does not conflict in any way with DayZ. Before someone points out to me that not all are needed, I have all of them for two reasons one: support the company behind Arma. Two: because I enjoy playing arma and having all the expansions adds more gameplay. -
is dayzSA a MMO or a FPS?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Pixelwarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Answering the thread title and ignoring the ongoing debate: It is not an fps (first person shooter) simply because it has third person perspective as well, a free floating camera third person, not just over the shoulder. MMO (mass multiplayer online)... Mass can refer to many things in different context and is to vague to say it is or it isn't. Although I would say under certain context It is in fact a Mass mutliplayer online game (mass{ive} based on the large 225 square km map allowing dozens of people to play simultaneously without loading between regions and connects players remotely via online access) The game falls into each of the letters making up the acronym MMO. However with that said it does NOT fall in the known genre people relate to the acronym of MMO. So what is DayZ? ... It is a game, play it, enjoy it, and don't over analyze or try to force into media created categories which depreciate creativity and try to keep everything in black and white. -
Would you quit if servers went expert?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would enjoy the game more If we were locked into expert. first person only would be an amazing experience as everyone would be on a level playing field. The reason people use third is because of the advantage you can get with it. My biggest gripe with third person is the fact that someone can see you while being completely hidden and there is nothing you can do about it. Name tags are just horrible in general, you can literally scan your crosshair across the screen looking through cities and find something pop up with a name tag. even worse when it marks that location on the map. you can accidentally find vehicles from ridiculous distances. Character location on the map makes the gps and compass almost useless as vital items. Waypoints are overpowered. They need to be disabled if you do not have a compass and gps. Having a GPS should show character location on map (yours only not enemies "seen") I am all for turning the difficulty up on this game far beyond what is currently available. Sure we will have a large amount of people complaining, but that happens when there is any sort of change made. Let them complain all they want they will eventually start enjoying it and learning new strategies or they will quit and the community will be better for it. The people complaining about getting motion sick. Increase your FOV, turn off post processing (motion blur), reduce head bob, and add a little bit of mouse smoothing. Do those may not eliminate motion sickness but it will reduce it greatly and allow your body to adapt and get used to it. If you still get motion sick maybe it's not the game for you to play for extended periods at a time? EDIT: There would be a few welcomed things that could be added to a first person view. I'd like to see the ability to raise your head in order look over objects slightly. We need some more vertical control between prone, crouch, and standing. The ability to move your head up slightly to see over some grass while prone, or over the edge of a building while your on the roof. Of course doing so would make you visible, just not as visible as say going from prone to crouch is. I'd also like to add that it would be like holding alt, it does not move your gun. key bindings I could see to be something like ALT plus shift/control for raise and lower. or whatever key binding you feel like settings, back/forward mouse buttons if your mouse has those. -
Should I buy Arma 2 now or wait for the stand alone?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Anitun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Arma II is a great game by itself. Add in the HUNDREDS of mods available for it and the great community that keeps arma going and $30 is a very cheap price for such an indepth great game. Look into some of the other mods and arma game play videos and see if arma is the type of game you might enjoy if it is I'd pick it up without hesitation. Not to mention once the stand alone is released. The mod will still be here and will be active with entirely different content. The stand alone will not have private hives and alternate maps at launch. -
Here's a previous thread which should help you. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/62076-arma-2-oa-changing-cd-key/ If you are still having problems, your new key may be banned as well. I'd also be careful because if you got yourself banned by downloading some hacks or anything else along those lines your computer may be compromised and every new key you put in will get stolen/banned

Standalone out before newyear? - Dayz Standalone Release Discussion
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Teo3201's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You know the standalone is NOT the mod right... It's a new game with an entire and newly written code on a newer engine. It will most likely have less content in certain aspects and more in others then the mod currently does but it will be more polished and optimized. It's wont be a paid update for the mod which is what I gather a lot of people are expecting on this forum. The standalone release will have no hacks for a while at least because the hacks from the mod will not work for the standalone due to it being a different game. As for bugs, expect many more bugs than we currently have. The standalone is a foundation build, we will be the testers to help locate and identify bugs. For a bug free experience people will have to wait until full release which has no speculated release date, could be years. The point people keep bringing up about keeping it in development longer to reduce bugs, it's all about man hours. Once they have the foundation build up and running it's easier to release it and have the community test and find bugs. If 1000 community member help locate bugs for 10 hours once it's released that's 10 thousand man hours of game testing. It would take the dev team months upon months of testing to the extent that the community could do in only a couple days. -
Dayz Auto Run - [Application]
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to assassin_ukg's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I cannot imagine using an auto run bot.... I constantly run back and fourth across the map using checkpoints spread out roughly 2000 - 4000 meters away. I run while staying vigilant looking for camps, other players, and heli crash sites. Noobs who use auto run are easy pickings for anyone... Cows are harder to shoot, their movement is less predictable than an auto runner in a straight line. It's almost as bad as running directly for cherno and electro as a spawn to get geared up. -
Can I report a hacker?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Kaffarov37's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The best you can do is report them to the server admins which depending on the server they may ban them. Record as much proof as you can screenshot/video if possible. Make sure you write down the hackers name, what time you saw him hacking, where abouts, and what he was doing. Admins should be able to take a look at the server log using timestamps you provide and keep them out of the server. Assuming of course the admins are active and try to keep hackers out. Other than that there isn't too much you can do. -
Gamma Squad (Surv-andit)
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Just1njohnston's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
You have had a password on the server all day. Please stop abusing admin powers on the public hive. Either keep the server open with no password, or change to a private hive. This is a form of admin abuse and exploiting the game. -
Steam Sale 11/22/12 36hrs 50% Arma2
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Hekyl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pick it up without even thinking about. If not for dayzmod and all the community added maps for it there are hundreds of other great mods out there for arma 2. And you can always play some normal arma 2 which in itself is a lot of fun. You might find yourself more of an arma fan than a dayz fan. -
How long for standalone now?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to WalBanger's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dev's are trying to release it by the end of the year. It may get pushed back no one knows. It's going to be a FOUNDATION build, not an alpha or a beta and definitely not anything close to a full complete game. There's a good chance it will be just as buggy and full of glitches as the mod is/was for the first while but it should have constant updates like the mod did back in the earlier days. For the latest info on what's happening and random ideas make sure to follow Rocket everywhere you can a good place is here http://www.reddit.com/user/rocket2guns -
Arma 2 Free FPS
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Rick the Survivor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are also many optimizations that can and need to be made based on your computer specs such as allocating memory, allowing access to multiple cpu threads and a general guideline to settings that will balance resources between cpu and gpu accordingly. Then from there you can go into game profile configurations and edit them to change everything from complexity of objects loaded to your field of vision. Arma 2 is not one of those games you install and it works perfect. There is a lot of fine tuning to your personal set up. I recommend checking out some arma websites for optimizations and tweaks. Heres a couple links to quickly read through and get some idea of where to start http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?73947-ArmaHolic-ArmA-2-Optimization http://www.dayzpvp.com/ultimate-dayz-graphics-settings-and-tweaks-guide/ and heres one more using the forums search http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/38865-how-to-increase-fpssmooth-out-the-game/ -
Gamma Squad (Surv-andit)
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Just1njohnston's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
I just recently started playing on US3470 hosted by Gamma Squad. We have a small group and a relatively small camp. After finding a URAL at a fresh spawn point with gear inside we take it to our camp only to have it mysteriously disappear overnight while leaving the rest of the camp entirely untouched neither weapon or ammo were taken from other tents just the ural and what was stored in it. Hacker/admin abuse is suspected. After a short while we log out, go to log back in and now the server is password protected. Something seems shady any server admins care to shed some light on the situation? Is this server being abused as an armory for this squad to stay constantly geared up when moving through servers? Edit: Looks like the server may have been getting trolled by a hacker and vehicles not saving correctly. Good server though fast loading and no lag. -
SweetFX Shader Suite Bannable?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to girdisorder's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It all depends on how you use it... I'm sure it could be a case where the few ruin it for the group by trying to tweak night vision but jacking up gamma and brightness already does that. SweetFX works great to visually enhance the game beyond any normal means and settings and it does so with very little fps/performance hit. It takes a fair bit of time tweaking the settings to get it to something you like but once you start to make those adjustments turning it on and off is a night and day difference. -
SweetFX Shader Suite Bannable?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to girdisorder's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I use it, and don't think I could play without it. Turning it off makes it look like I have very low blood. I'll post a couple screenshots of the changes I have made, I'm still working on finding those "perfect settings" of course perfect for myself anyone else might see it and hate the look. Here are a couple screenshots with sweetfx on and off. *Hint: the more vibrant richer looking Images are with sweetfx. I have also played around with the settings to make the night HARDER to see and more accurate lack of colour/detail. It makes using chemlights/flares comparable to seeing fireworks for the first time. http://imgur.com/a/aRzAP -
If you open up dayz commander, you will have a few sections you can navigate listed near the top. SERVERS, SEARCH, RECENT, FAVORITES, FRIENDS. The second you double click to enter a server it will be saved in your recent tab which you can then add to the favorites for safe keeping and easy joining. Logging in using recent/favorite will ensure you are always logging into the same server/hive. Logging into the same server is important because tents and vehicles are not interchangeable from server to server even in the same hive. Each server will have it's own set of vehicles that can not be transferred from one server to the next. So if you find a vehicle hide it in some trees you wont be able to find it again unless you are on the same server. If you want to play on the official dayz servers only and not the other hives/maps you in the SERVERS tab, on the left side you will have filters you can apply In the drop down box select "DayZ Only" then check "hide unofficial" Every server that is listed with those filters your character, items, and location will all transfer without any problems.

will the standalone support TrackIR?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to Rastamaus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There has been no definitive YES or NO in regards to trackIR released from the game developers. But with that said speculation is very high seeing as it is supported by the engine DayZ will be using as well as all the current mod. If I can't fly my helicopter in the standalone via TrackIR I don't know what I will do. I'd also be willing to bet that if something happens where it isn't supported at the release of the alpha it will be supported further down the line in development. -
Check out Take On Helicopters, Dayz standalone will be using the same engine. Take on Helicopters has an extremely large map of Seattle. While not every building is in 3D there are large portions of the town which have been built up to scale in 3D. A group of skilled map creators could possibly take portions of the Seattle map and turn it into a great dayz adaptation with enter-able buildings EDIT: Beaten to the punch with the above comment about Seattle map. But due to it's immense size it would have be small concentrated areas of that map to keep it from destroying every computer around. A few square KM's of downtown could provide an interesting experience

Whats the point?
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no instant death from combat timer at the moment instead it logs to the server that you have combat logged. And honestly I hope there never is instant death, not because I have or ever will abuse such a horrible exploit. Rather because I've had my game crash a few times randomly whether from an overclock deciding it doesnt want to play nicely, or the game just locks up from a ram disk error or of course the poor optimization. It's inconvenient when it happens but adding insta death would be devastating. But I do agree there needs to be some way to reduce combat logging as it is a huge problem. If someone is supossed to die whether from zombies or another player they should accept their fate and die. Fight to the last breathe. Don't respawn if you have a broken leg, crawl!~ -
What is the general concencus on the best server to play??
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) replied to richjones19772000's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You need to find out what works for you. Personally I enjoy playing on highly populated servers. First I look at ping, then number of players if both seem good then I will join and have fun. With all the hacking and exploits that happen in this mod there's not too much incentive to settle in one server/hive so jump around and explore
