I like the idea that the more people you kill unprovoked, the more crazier you become.. Or maybe a fallout system, whereby reputation is used instead of humanity. If you murder people and it's witnessed, you have to find the witness or you'll be licking rocks eating raw goat because if you set one foot near a trader city your head goes awal... Teach them kids a lesson. If they don't fix it they won't get my cash. It's getting old and Rust is looking far superior. -
Just want to make it clear that I'm no pro; so I'm not sure if I'm qualified to answer this, however I think I can help you with your dilemma. If you open up Arma 2 you will see a menu, navigate to settings and proceed change them to better suit your requirements.

From memory they make rattling sound to lure out prey and are pretty clumsy when walking so I don't think they should be silent.

Just another thought, unlike z's they could co-ordinate low level tactical maneuvers, maybe just staying in a herd when they're just little guys, then they learn more advanced tricks as they get older like mimicing sounds of guns and cars and even player's cries for help to flush survivors out, the larger and smarter they are the more clever and devasting they'd be... It'd make for some realllly messed up scenarios, maybe even they could type words from a dead player they just ate in chat (hard with skype etc) like "pick me up" or "help me".. The first time you might go back to help them and walk into a trap, but even hearing / seeing a plant you know is lieing to you (although fake) trying to lure you out is frikkin crazy, you'd have no idea what they're thinking and that itself is really offputting..

You could just set it after the outbreak, so you can skip all the blind people explanations etc as you don't really need them. From memory, Triffids are alot more dangerous than Z's.. They aren't dead or infected with rage like a zombie, they're alive and adapt and learn; I guess as they age. As an example to their badassery, they tested electric fence lines for week spots and laid siege to a house in the book.. Imagine running into a barn and locking the doors only to hear 10 of them shuffling around outside, silently probing and waiting, then you hear them leave (or so you think) and gently open the door and .. BAM last thing you hear is the group shrieking in a frenzy as your torn limb from limb. Also, I don't remember them making you blind, that was all done by the meteor and the plants just seemed (very suspiciously) to be in the right spot at the right time. But it's been a while since I read it. Can't wait!

Awesome suggestions, thought an alternative to the soldier / hunter model would be cool, maybe not even carrying a gun. Enter the ninja.. Something than can thrive in the infested cities by utilizing grappling hooks, tabi boots, balaclavas, black clothes, katana's or knives etc. They would be terrifying until spotted and then would be vulnerable (i guess they could be near silent as long as they don't walk into things or carry too much weight) but would be able to make hasty get away's with smoke bombs and some climbing skillz.. I loved Tenchu and DayZ being the open world that it is I think can support it.. I see you're making some promising changes with more building interaction and more clothing options so it looks like it could be on the way! Thanks for all the work you do and for listening! -
You read my mind!!.. Imagine you're wearing all black, a balaclava and soft soled shoes. You've heard a sniper firing in Cherno and have pin pointed his location to the roof of a tall building. The roof is to high to use your grappling hook so you have to climb up several lower structures to enable you to reach the sniper's roof. You make it and find him completely immersed in sniping, he's not being cautious as there are no stairs or ladders up, it's only him and a now visible chopper. You unsheathe your katana and silently approach, he would never know how he died and lost everything and maybe never will... Thanks for the update!
