got bored and checked the "members" tab... I counted 20 players per page and 6497 pages. That is roughly 130 thousand "members". Which as far as i can assume doesnt account for those with multiple accounts/banned members. So, I guess that means only 10% of the Dayz mod population has even looked toward the official forums for information, leaving the rest of them to rely on facebook/reddit (?) to answer their posts about all thing dayz. Just an observation.

I began playing in late May, and consistently played on a server that had no crosshairs and no 3rd person, and did this because at the time, the server was stable, and frankly, I enjoyed the immersion it brought with creeping through the grass amongst the nearby zombies (which would only stop chasing when they were dead). The firefights seemed more intense as well, and forced a different playstyle than having 3rd person. (granted I had headbob set to 0, and have never had motion sickness despite being in 30 foot seas on the Pacific) After that, I joined up with a buddy playing on a 3rd person server and was amazed at how much easier it was with regard to spotting, and surveilling the area. In short, I would welcome 1st person only, but the fact that some unfortunate people get motion sickness from this setting, I doubt it will become a reality.

OK, I'll bite on this... In which alternate reality do you live in that led you to the conclusion that the ballistics of a 5.56 round would pierce an engine block? Taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.56%C3%9745mm_NATO The only round that would come close would be the M855A1 penetrator round which was "...able to penetrate 3⁄8 inches (9.5 mm) of steel plate at 300 meters". Taking into account that THIS round would have to go through the sheet metal body of a vehicle to GET to the engine block (not to mention angle of fire and subsequent deflection of the bullet) reduces its energy, and would hold little hope for actually piercing an engine block/head to do any sort of damage to the engine whatsoever.

Map: Namalsk Location: East hill of Brensk bridge Gear: M24, Ghillie, Alice Playstyle: CQB in cities, anything goes, but generally avoid. From distance: Observer, opportunist (for gear), but not really killin for LULZ. Log in to the private server i play on, instantly see unarmed man prone on bridge and a guy with a AK on the west side. I sit and watch. They spoke of a sniper on the hill at the bridge and dont know if they are speaking of me. I remain silent and continue to watch, because I dont need anything off of their corpse. Minutes pass and I see that the guy with the AK dies and realize the sniper they are talking about is on the West side of the bridge on the opposite hill. At this point, I realize that this is an ideal situation to countersnipe, as i am completely hidden and hell bent on taking out this bandit. I scan the hill and see him, and immediately open my map to range his position. He is at ~600 meters and lying in wait to take shots at people at the railway station. Blood starts pumping. Zero my M24 to 600m, check ammo...got lots :) This is going to be my longest attempt at a kill ever, and I've been playing since May. Prone under a tree, acquire target, adjust for range and fire...MISS. a bit low, not far, but a half a mildot higher and im good to go. Problem is, he is now strafing constantly and hiding behind trees scanning for me with his sniper rifle, but I am hidden as shit. I take more shots while he is on the move, leading the target, all misses, but not by far. My visibility of him is pretty low due to the mist/fog, so i pause and adjust my gamma down a bit. and Now he is about 700m away tucked behind a big rock, and all I can see is his the top of his head. I fire and see the faintest blood mist but he isnt dead, and think that I must have seen his body instead of his head. He stays by the rock and i imagine he is bandaging, as I fire again and see that he is dead. My heart has been pumpin pretty hard now for about 10 minutes, so I cool off and head up across the valley to his corpse. As i get to the other side, with ONLY my M24 and no backup primary, I see a dude with an M14 about 30m from me (in a tree btw), blood pressure rises, zero for 100m, and try to steady my hand in a situation where I am at a serious CQB disadvantage. I fire, I hit, hes bleeding and running around. and its tough to scope in on him at such a close range. fire a few more shots and finally hit him with my shakey hands. I had to assume he was part of the squad that the sniper was in, and was going to protect/loot his body. He was yelling friendly in side and cussed me out when he died...but i couldnt trust him, sorry bud. I leave his body there for the time being and head to the dead sniper. I looted his Coyote backpack and backup m16 and hid his body. I loved the fact he had a coyote because I rarely see them. So, I head back down the hill with the m16 at the ready, and decide that I needed that M14 because its a good compliment to the M24 due to "shared" ammo. I left all the mediocre loot on the M14 guy and left it as a prize to someone that happened upon it, and walked off into the hills. Gonna continue to wait and watch for these snipers to take advantage of their situation, so I can take advantage of mine. Best of luck random snipers, I will see you on the battlefield.

Despite the technical shortcomings, I had a great time watchin' it. I was initially worried that the start was being delayed because Rocket was talking with us about all things Dayz, but i was reassured that there were other issues preventing the start of the games. I must say, it was great to interact and chat with Rocket, he seems to be very approachable and available to his community, and im sure that everyone else there enjoyed being part of it. Thanks again Rocket for creating such a great game! On a side note: would there be a way to auto-kick someone who was killed in combat, which would happen before the "death screen" popped up with the server information? In my experience, when you are in a fire fight and get killed; the adrenaline is pumping, and it may slip past your mind to kill the stream BEFORE the server info shows up. But after watching Oshi and Sacriel, and the chat that followed with Kai, they were saying that a VPN would solve the problem of possible infiltration of the survivor games server.

Okay, Im a little angry at the moment but I think that I have the right to be. So last night around 12 am EST I log into this server DE 1307 in electro and there arent that many people on. gear up, and find an ATV between cherno and elecktro, at the top of the rock cliffs in need of repair. I make the journey back to electro and get all the necessary components and extra fuel tanks. at this point it is about 2 am. I make a couple stops before stary sobor, then park the atv outside of stary to go loot. come back, take my spoils and head off to the construction site North of Dolina and West of Orlovets. I parked the atv near the brick wall to the south of the construction site and gather up some needed extra vehicle parts. After I get back to my ride I am in the process of fixing and stowing miscellaneous gear when POOF...session lost... there was no "server will restart in x minutes" in german or english. The server stays down for about 20-30 minutes. Well, you guessed it folks the ATV was gone (which I had saved as I dismounted as always, and again before I head off) and so was half my inventory. And before you chime in and say "you should have saved the vehicle", I would like to let you know that I had stopped and saved it exactly 8 times between stary sobor and the construction site north of dolina. So as to not get unjustifiably angry at something that I could have messed up myself, I decided to retrace my EXACTpath back to stary sobor just to make sure that it didn't end up parked in one of the 8 spots that I had stopped over the course of that journey. No trace of it. So I ask you, has this been a case of a seemingly "entitled" admin who feels that he/she is somehow deserving of a mode of transport that I slaved over to get up and running? If so, this is complete fucking bullshit. A couple side notes to point out: 1. As I leaving stary 20 minutes ago, I see 2 peoples death messages come up, and after another 5 minutes i see "exeelenti was killed" and not 15 seconds after I get "no message received for x seconds". This, from my experience is a case of the admin shutting down the server. Fuckin shenanigans. 2. There was a reddit post on saturday night which I will link, which in my opinion further reinforces the need for investigation into the admins actions. I will leave it to you to read, but it may have been a bit of meta-gaming to bait people into a loot trap. Basically the OP said he was banned from the server for looting a camp on the eastern edge of the map which was followed by further posts of bans. I personally had nothing to loose as a fresh spawn so I went and got killed, but obviously wasnt banned. Its been a good day with some ups and downs. Started off with my 2nd account runnin around...wherever...rockin an enfield and a pistol and all the gear to cook food. -Electro : had 2 people who tried to snipe me with an as50 and an AR, they missed (terribly, I should have been dead to rights), I tried to flank, but they disappeared. made my way up to bereznino got some more meds... no action. found a bike in a forest...YOINK! 40 ppl on the server, so I roll around lookin for tents (found some up north of bereznino, searched for crashed helis etc. and BOOM found NVG's on a crashed heli, then find a ghillie in vybor...YOINK NWAF: hit the north barracks and biked down to near the fire station when I start taking silenced fire, but couldnt see due to graphical glitches...I get a few rounds off on my attacker but I end up dying, I always do dumb shit after I get rare gear. There I was ringin my bell on the bike on the airfield...I felt like I was jugglin dildo's and skipping along like an idiot, but hell it was fun. Interlude: I take a break, check dayzreddit and find that someone posted that he got banned from a server after he found a camp owned by the admins, I figure, "hell, I'll bite, it will be a fresh spawn anyway" Spawn into the server with 4 ppl on it. I'm in balota at night, grab an AKM and a G17. No compass, but its no worries, I can read the stars. I hop to kamarovo, and then kamenka and turn north to the 3 deerstands and find a DMR with 2 mags...Yoink! I make a very careful infiltration up into the hills on the western edge of the map...its dark, its raining, I'm close... All of a sudden I get opened up on by what has to be the L85 thermal and get killed...no worries. I figure, if he has a thermal, I better get on my main account with a L85 and a DMR and move towards the camps location, when I come up on a well fortified camp with sandbags and fencing with 2 tents inside. Nothing special except for 2 ghillie suits, so I grab them and figure, thats good enough for now, no sense pressing my luck for what has obviously been a trap. I get back on my second account on a low pop server with sidechat and nametags enabled, fuck it, lets loot. Everyone on the server seemed pretty cool, and I ended up meeting up with a guy that needed a blood bag in stary...I give in and head that way, he seemed cool enough. He's in the tents, I'm rollin in from the SE and spot a crashed heli and lay waste to the zeds around it, nothing really there, no NVGs on any of the pilots, so I meet up with him to provide a transfusion, but he didnt have a blood bag on him, DOH. Luckily we found a blood bag at the tents and proceeded to xfuse/loot the tents and the rest of stary. We decide to clear out stary for some more ammo and move north when we find ANOTHER heli, and oh my god, my 2nd set of NVGs looted today. My new buddy grabs the M249 and make for the deerstands when HOLY shit, another heli...more zombie clearing and we find a set of NVGs for him too. We cant believe our luck! Neither of us has a compass but it doesnt matter, I know the north pretty damn well, so we head to the NWAF in the dying light of the day and click on our newly acquired goggles. Sidenote: During this whole looting/killing process, the guy I was with didnt have a mic and had to type everything, and each time he stopped, he was aiming towards me, and I had this sneaking suspicion he was going to put one in my back or my head when i wasnt looking. So I was always strafing left/right out of his aim in case he did fire on me. As we are clearing the Airfield we find him probably 800 rounds of ammo for his belt fed behemoth and plenty of AKM mags for me. I was lookin for somethin better than the czech backpack i had and maybe a sniper rifle but nothin spawned in. So after a careful airfield run we both log off happy as pigs in shit. Thats what I call a pretty good day. Thankfully I put my trust in the hands of a pretty good dude who didnt murder me for laughs, even though I'm sure that when he aimed at me he heard a strong bandit heartbeat.

After a successful heli crash find, I claimed a L85 AWS, and have routine nighttime enfil/loot/exfil jaunts through the NWAF, I kind of want to see what would happen if I went to green mountain...again. I have been there before, but have never returned... I wonder what would happen; the previous times were very mysterious, but I need to satiate my curiousity. ...maybe I can catch a glimpse of what truth that has eluded me with my thermal sight. Can technology solve my confused questions?

Side chat was good and bad. The good part was that it offered a bit of comic relief to some of the more interesting situations that happened on the server, and it had allowed me the opportunity to carefully gain trust with someone I ended up squading with, which was great fun. The bad: well, immersion...while the simple chat could break immersion, the morons that decided that side chat was a satisfactory place to use VON absolutely filled my soul with hatred.
