I generally mark up fire stations, general stores and hospitals when new maps come out. I dont mark barracks or helo crashes, though. Too much of a risk of someone finding an AS-50 -
So right now, Nights give you four types of people: flashlight noobs, Flare Noobs, Chemlighters and NVG/Gamma users. As it stands now, NVG's are a massive advantage. Not that this is bad considering their rarity, its just that most players don't stand a hope in hell against people with NVG's. Possibly why so few people play on night time servers. So why dont we add more common but less great Night vision devices? Such as to start out with a x4 Gen 1 active infra red scope. Pretty much low power scope with about 100m range, but because its active, anyone else with Night vision devices of any type, can see you like a flashlight. Following this, we go up getting better range, until you get to the current NVG's that have near unlimited range and are passive. Having the "civilian" NV scopes and very poor goggles spawn in game towers, the Gen 2 and passive spawning rarely in regular military spawns and the top end NVG's spawns remaining the same would mean that people would be less afraid to spawn at night.

Cars = Deathtraps. They draw far too much attention, are a pain in the ass to fix and are prone to fatal accidents. Especially the accidents, we've had loads, due to disconnecting, textures not loading and the good old lag. We do enjoy murdering people in vehicles. In Nemansk we had a UAZ nearly run us over before we opened up with an M240 and M4 AIM. Vehicle exploded, knocking the driver out, at which point we executed him. Pretty much: all of the Machine guns = anti-vehicle weapons. Oh and he was carrying an AT-4 (we think he stored everything in the car), M16ACOG and...Mountain dew! The curse claims another victim. We left everything on his corpse and fled for the hills, lest the curse claim us also.

Banditry is more fun i have to admit, I've been doing it on private servers and the fact that most players will have an assault rifle makes for a real challenge. Everyone also seems more friendly, even had a newbie player run up to me and say hi. I proceeded to tell him to piss off or I'd empty a mag in his face (I dont shoot unarmed players, no sport in that) Also traded an M16A2 for a can of beans once, due to the lack of food co-operation seems to happen alot more, especially as things like assault rifles are really common. -

I would actually love for it to go black/white heat mode. I'm colourblind so it does my eyes with the red background (i cant make ANYTHING but heat sources out). Black and white gives me much more awareness of surroundings. -

The sheer volume of duped items is a real issue. My regular group now has a policy of destroying AS50's, M107's and L85's when we encounter them (even if they spawned in a legitimate manner). I miss the days when 90% of cherno snipers had CZ's, rather than the "fun" of .50's. -

There also seem to be some excellent new weapons too. So far i've found: AK-74 with GP-25 grenade launcher and a L85A2 ACOG with AG-36 grenade launcher. Very Snazzy. Warm clothing looks fantastic, and its good to seem temperature being a real concern. So so much of this is taken right from STALKER. Some of the buildings, the anomaly to the north and some items kicking about. Needs bloodsuckers, needs bloodsuckers badly. -

Me and a friend almost got ran over by a UAZ in the middle no nowhere. So we opened up with an M240 and M4. Vehicle exploded and then we executed the driver. He had a mountain dew... We left it where it was, lest the curse follow us. -
Ever been in a group with "that guy" Aka, the guy who no matter how well you play, somehow gets all the kills. http://www.blastwave...?p=comic&nro=40 We've got a few characters in our group: Lancer: always no matter how careful he is, will get shot first. Doesnt matter if he is ghillied up in a bush 1 click away, he will die first. He will also be the one to die from terrain vehicles and general misfortune. That guy: Kills everything, headshots everywhere. Almost never speaks on coms. He scares us. The scavenger: Randomly vanishes and then comes back the next day loaded with awesome gear. No-one knows how he does this or where he goes. We suspect he sacrifices bunnies to the god of dayz The Noob: Has no spacial awareness, is trigger happy to boot. A friendly fire incident waiting to happen. Also panics when attacked by zombies and often dies to them. Has not improved in six months of play... We abandon him from time to time.

Just been playing the various maps available on dayZ commander, but is it just me, or are AS-50's utterly everywhere now? Both in chenaurus and the new maps. Last dozen deaths have been to them, mostly at short range hipfiring AS-50's. It would be fine if it was a "rare" item, its just right now it seems that there are dozens on each and every populated server, and its nigh impossible to kill the players with it (due to logoff, being able to hipfire with a one shottable semi auto gun and the sheer number of rounds they put down because ammo is common) Is this due to hacking? or does the AS-50 need to be put down like the rabid dog it is right now? Oh and most of these players are utterly terrible shots too, which means they just blaze 5-7 rounds in your direction in quick succession. Didnt the CZ-550 get nerfed to the stone age for being over-used? Hell i remember that the CZ actually required a degree of skill to get a kill, rather than the "blaze at target widly". That and if anyone got close you were screwed. I see more AS-50's lying about and on players than any other weapon in the game right now (except perhaps the lee, due to newbie syndrome)

So joining a non-hive server, i decided that since i was coming off the beach, i would at least try to communicate with people. What better way to show your not hostile than to surrender. So i spawn in electro, i hear lee shots. I head towards them. Run into a pair of survivors, call out over voice chat saying "Hello! i'm friendly, dont shoot" as i stand in the open with my hands up. They respond and come over. Five seconds later someone with an AK-74 storms out and starts a firefight with both of them. I'm standing in the middle with my hands up cowering. 20 seconds later everyone is dead and i'm sitting there wondering what the hell is going on... Before looting all the corpses after checking everyone is actually dead. Finished with an ALICE pack, CZ, AK-74, loads of food and basic equipment. Would surrender again > :D

Rather than overlapping with painkillers, why dont you have it that it stabilises your aim from running? At the expense of having to light up and producing smoke?

So understanding the current vehicle spawn system, something does seem to be a bit off. 99% of servers i come across, there is not a vehicle in sight. Now I have come across a few while playing (and several on one server which had an old beta), however the current number of vehicles on each server seems rather low. Now the if we had the current number of vehicles, and only 40 people on the server (all time, not just logged in at once), this would be fine. However, it seems that with the large player base, unless you find a server that is brand new, your chances of finding even a broken down vehicle are extremely slim (you find more crashed helos for example) So to change this, keep the current despawn mechanics, but incorporate regular spawns for vehicles based upon teir. For example: Shit tier: tractors, Pushbikes - Spawn every 1-3 days Low Tier: Civilian cars, Bus - Spawn every 3-5 days Mid tier: Offroad vehicles, motorcycles and quadbikes. - Spawn every 5-7 days High Tier: Helicopters etc - Every 7 to 14 days. Tweaking this so that more broken down vehicles spawn would mean that factories etc become more interesting to players. What may be needed later however (to control server lag due to item number) is a hardcoded limit on how many vehicles of each type there are on the server. Random placement would also help stop people bouncing around servers looking for vehicle spawns. My opinion on the issue of vehicles being overly rare is most likely to the tendency for people to get a vehicle and hide it, rather than actually using it alot of the time.

Agreed with that one. One thing that would happen with vehicles is people coming straight from the coast (on a pushbike) to raid the barracks for weapons. More traffic is good traffic.

Which would be hilarious. Especially as the cars seem to be made of glass and explode when they crash. Oh the Humanity! Actually the highway traffic picking up may not be so bad, means you could actually camp the approaches to places rather than sitting at the NW airfield/Stary And make people spend more time in the wilderness if they want to avoid people.

It also may be an addition benefit to add either anti-vehicle mines (Damage wheels) or more common anti-vehicle weapons. Caltrops would also be a possibility. We still want to make vehicles something special, but not as rare as they are now. Problem is that if we provoke a "glut", that everyone will be driving around in cars etc. Then again "accidents" account for alot of the vehicles. Would be interesting to see what would happen if the spawn limits were removed,

Not criticising, but this is the sort of behaviour that has made finding vehicles such a rare event. Because of their rarity due to hoarding, people will straight away try to horde it :P While this is perfectly natural and i have no issues with it, hiding said vehicle effectively "deletes" it from the game, unless someone gets lucky enough to find your camp. Which is why having vehicles spawn based on time only, would improve how often they are used. Not to mention, how often a proper firefight happens over something like a vehicle.
