How to lower the ”shot on sight” mentality

shooting-on-sight will never go away completely, and if it did that would really kill game quality. but to discourage it slightly, i think they need to make ammunition a lot rarer and more valuable than it currently is. common weapons for players should be basic mellee tools and civilian weapons with limited pvp capabilities. the truly powerful guns, like military assault rifles and machine guns, need to be very rare, with ammo even rarer for them. basically make them seriously contemplate wasting precious ammo on you. i always liked the system in the metro 2033 games, where high-quality ammo was so valuable it became currency. something like that would fit well in dayz, too. you'd also cut down on senseless banditry significantly by keeping sniper rifles very, very rare. one of the reasons i stopped playing dayz was because 1hk snipers became extremely common and gameplay degraded into a camping deathmath. -
What do you like/dislike so far when it comes to SA?

yes the animations were pretty subpar, but that's probably something they can rework later. personally glad they're reworking the entire metagame. i always enjoyed dayz best at the very beginning when military weapons were extremely rare, and the dmr was considered the best rifle. emphasis was on exploration and survival rather than senseless banditry. -
this update looks to have a lot of potential. i stopped playing dayz ages ago because of all the senseless banditry caused by the OP .50 cal snipers - can't wait to start playing again

I can not get my FPS up for the life of me!

if lowering video settings doesn't improve FPS, then it sound like the CPU is the culprit. get a GPU monitoring program and watch your gpu's usage. if it's not being utilized fully then your cpu is to blame -
let's just assume that every time you log off your character takes a lengthy nap

i can see it now #1play - as50 shot from 1000m #2 play - as50 shot from 900m #3 play - as50 shot from 800m etc.

each side makes their points and in a situtation like this it's just best for each party to head their own way what doesn't make sense is this whole "community ban list" thing. so if i'm understanding this properly, admins can report local banlists to a global banlist, effectively banning users from multiple non-affiliated servers at once? sounds completely rotten.

the game doesn't need any "buddy-up" mechanics. group-play ruins gameplay enough as it is, they shouldn't receive any additional bonuses on top of all the advantages they already have. besides part of playing as a group is coordinating well and communicating. if you can't recognize your teammates then you're simply not coherent enough. i for one enjoy taking potshots at random groups and watching them scramble around each other like chickens because they have terrible coordination. a couple of times they ended up shooting each other, too. -
hopefully they take the game back to its roots and shift the focus to exploration, scavenging, and survival in general current game should be called "as50 shooting gallery 2013"

helis are fine. this is an fps after all, not "helicopter simulator" -
you can also adjust your FOV by double-tapping num minus. this will zoom out your view permanently. but as mentioned this is marginally useful on 3rd person servers. if you really want to improve at pvp download a shooting range mod and spend some time learning arma 2 ballistics and weapon characteristics

hopefully they rework weapons and combat from the ground up. engagements should be kept under 50m with common place civilian weapons - military rifles should become ultra rare and truly something worth fighting over. ammo should be pretty scarce, too. make players think before taking senseless potshots -

i said arma 2 doesn't cause headaches more so than any other game - it's the same images being displayed on the same monitor and there's no reason for one game to magically cause problems while others don't. and as i said before, it's all about the configuration. i couldn't play arma 2 in first person either for a long time, it just took a bit of tweaking to make it tolerable. so hopefully they'll address these issues in the standalone and make first person playable out of the box -

arma 2 wouldn't cause a headache more so than any other first-person game. just have to tweak it to w/e works for you. hopefully they'll refine the system in the standalone to make first person a more viable option.
