in chernarus , i would head for one of the castles near the coast (eg. rog) as you will find a pistol most times.this is my lonewolf tactic if i feel like living longer.then i head north through deer stands and barns.i tend to avoid obvious hot spots (NWAF , starry etc..) until i connect with my team.

a little look at an offshore helicopter base on the Panthera map.we had to race there to beat a server shut down.

I took a random shot at a helicopter with my Lee Enfield and you won't believe what happens.

i thought i shot down a chopper with an M4 , but the invisible hacker inside had other plans for me. -
is this a scripted vehicle?its a black s.u.v. that i think is in the private military contractor expansion for arma2.

i found a "debug desert" in the fallujah hive i play on.it was strange and pretty much in game.

Looking for a popular GMT+1/13 server
Dr Octagon replied to Anyx7's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
i am an australian living in norway so i tend to play on norwegian servers due to better ping and the abundance of english.hives don't seem to list where they are all the time so i use ping as a guide.it also helps to check out any web sites listed by admins in the hive descriptions.i also don't play much on chernarus any more so i'm not familiar with hives for that map , however i use a server run by http://www.fmfclandivision.com/ when i play fallujah and namalsk and i have found most on there to be decent people and have even teamed up randomly with one or two people.sorry i cannot be more specific , but a bit of trial and error might be in order.i am not in the for mentioned clan , but big clans do a better job of administrating. hope this helped a bit , good luck and stay frosty. -

Did i just get lucky ?
Dr Octagon replied to Edgar Allen Bro (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
the gun is only loud if a player/zombie is close enough to hear it and the range of the sniper rifles is insane.you have to test it to range it.maybe watch some arma 2 sniper vids to get some idea but you will be without a rangefinder so determining distance is challenging.just don't stress so much over using it that you get killed before you even equip it.empty it and throw it away.good hunting. -
Why does this keep happening?
Dr Octagon replied to thetylerbutler's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
maybe try and find a good local hive and try and determine if it is reliable.the frustrations of dayz are outweighed by its awesomeness , but sometimes..... i agree with toastyy , use servers you know to be reliable.i pretty much only use stuff i have frequented and go straight to the "recent" section in dayzcommander as opposed to scrolling through endless server lists.keep at it and you'll find a nice place to call home.good luck! -
another good way to go is a local (good ping) private hive as i have found hacking frustrations are minimized (though not removed totally).even if you go lone wolf you can get to know regulars on the server and the admins.it also eliminates the players that server jump from hot spot to hot spot in a concealed sniper position.as for player number i feel the more players you see the better as it improves your reaction time faster.ultimately how you play the game is up you you ,but it is more satisfying to play with like minded players (even if you don't interact with them in game).what country do you play in?maybe another player geographically close to you can recommend a good hive.

low player count servers are good to get used to the elaborate control set up (unless you are an arma 2 vet) and a feel for the maps.try not to stress about dying as it is an inevitability and crying over the loss of virtual items is sad.have a look over the maps on www.dayzdb.com to become familiar with the environment. above all , just keep playing as it a unique game that has kept people logging on in spite of the many problems that often accompany an alpha. and enjoy , good luck!

nice work.the enfield is totally underrated. -
vaulting is cool!the colour thing sounds like you are low on blood or playing at dusk/dawn.this game takes a little to get used to.i got a lot out of doing all the tutorials in arma 2 to become familiar with the elaborate controls.just like any game , once you get them they become second nature.and you will die many times.interacting with other players is the hardest as you get so little practice at it.remember it is still in alpha.good luck.i love this game!
