People aren't going to have skills. It should be down to how good you are rather than if you have better skills than the other guy. With a lot more zombies, shooting your weapon will hopefully become much more of a risk. Suggestions like sanity (that have been suggested a million times over) force players to play a certain way and that's one thing the developers are trying to avoid so it's certainly not going to happen either.

Late at night can I find a server where it's not late in the game?
rossums replied to vfxtodd's topic in New Player Discussion
Yep, the time listed is the in-game time (or should be anyway) -

It helps if you include where you live so we know which timezone you're in! -
"Friendly" Players who KOS behind your back.
rossums replied to HappyXceed (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Everyone says they are friendly. I don't know what people expect: 'No, I'm going to kill you when I get the first opportunity.' -
1) It depends on the restart schedule 2) Some people login after restarts, loot areas, then log off again and repeat it later until they are geared. 3) Cross your fingers

I don't think they will allow 'layering' so to speak but that's more to keep the game balanced. At the moment you have to make sacrifices to have things waterproofed - they are generally lighter garments and the bags etc. have less slots than their non-waterproof counterparts. The same thing goes for camouflage, you have to sacrifice a lot of carrying capacity in order to use a Ghille Suit. All of this forces players to keep equipment for each eventuality in order to ensure they are properly protected and I reckon it will work quite well.

Although I've already got a private server, I might come visit you guys at some point and give it a wee bash.

He can't because it's all pretty much spot on. I think most of the issues are due to the relative frequency that such military gear appears rather than the 'strength' of the weapon, this is mainly down to the fact that weapon choices are more limited at this time and it will certainly change as development progresses and loot tables are balanced. They've already talked about how they want more emphasis on the weaponry that would be more readily available in the region to civilians and increasing the scarcity of the 'higher end' military weapons and equipment. I'd love more of an emphasis on civilian weaponry and equipment but at this point in development it's perfectly understandable that military weaponry (because there is a lot of it) will be more common.

DayZ: How to Submit a Bug Report for Dummies aka How to make Rossums not hate you I've spent numerous hours over the last few days closing duplicate reports, closing useless reports and having to basically beg for more informations from users so the developers can actually try to fix the bug. This guide goes step-by-step on reporting a bug the proper way which will ensure it will be handled in the best way possible. Step one: Identify the issue In this case you have identified some floating loot, that’s certainly not right! You want the problem to be fixed so you decide to log it on the bug-tracker so the developers can fix the issue! Step two: Gather information Now that you know that it’s a bug (Bags REALLY shouldn’t be floating in mid-air) you will have to gather some extra information so the developers can address the issue. This information is VERY important, the developers can’t fix a bug if they don’t know where it is occurring! Important Information: What were you doing before you encountered the bug?In this report it’s not really important since it’s regarding loot and nothing to do with your character but for other problems it’s extremely helpful for the developers to know. Where exactly were you when you encountered the bug?For this issue it’s very important to know exactly where the issue is found, along with most other problems. You might think you are describing it very well but as the saying goes ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’. Step three: Searching the feedback tracker This is one of the most important yet most overlooked step. There is no point in you creating a bug report if one already exists, before you submit a report you should always check there isn’t one already - it’s pretty simple. You can find the DayZ Feedback Tracker system at: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/ You’ll need to create an account before you submit your bug so complete the sign-up process then you are ready to go. Select ‘View Issues’ at the top of the page to be taken to the Feedback Tracker, you should be met with a large table at the top with filter options and below that all the current reports that have been submitted. Your table should arrange by ‘Priority’ by default, if for some reason it hasn’t click the heading highlighted in yellow so it’s in the correct order. There are multiple ways for you to search for an issue, if it’s an obvious issue there is a VERY large chance that someone will have reported it before you. If you look over the first page or two, these are the most important issues, most obvious and widespread bugs are normally found at the top. If you find a report that already tackles your issue, great, you should vote it up using the section highlighted in the image and add any additional information you have as a note. If you don’t find one near the top you can use the Filter Search as seen above to try and find a matching report - you can find the Filter Search text box just below the other filter areas and just above the main issue table. For this report there are two obvious keywords to use: ‘floating’ and ‘loot’. Try using them individually and together to try and find any other topics that seem to describe the issue you are having. If you’re having no luck finding another matching report it’s time to create your own report to help the advancement of DayZ! Step Four: Creating your Bug Report After, and only after, you have finished Step Three and properly given the existing issues a search you can move on to creating your own bug report. To create your own bug report hit the ‘Report Issue’ link at the top of the page, it can be seen in the image highlighted in yellow. You will need to fill out all of this information as best as you can. Here is an example of a good bug report. Along with the bug report I have included the two images that we took earlier, the image of the floating loot and the image of the map with the exact location of the loot marked - these will allow the developers to see exactly what the issue is for themselves. For the ‘Game Version’ field you can find it on the Main Menu in the top-right corner of the screen. Once you hit the button to submit, your report will then be in the hands of the developers and moderators of the bug tracker where it will be dealt with so the developers can make the best use of the reports.

New here and not sure how to search so sorry, Steam mod discussion ?
rossums replied to diesfourth's topic in General Discussion
Hey there man, The bans were not added by us (DayZ Discussion Moderators) but the Steam Community Moderators that volunteer directly for Valve/Steam. I, nor most of the other mods think it was the right course of action and I've already mentioned it to the developers that they are causing problems. Hicks has seen it first hand that they like to meddle, they have closed his thread, he would open it, they would close it, he would open it, over and over. Rossums DayZ Discussion Moderator. -
Players are already told to use the search function before they make a new thread - nobody does that. I don't see how adding another sticky is going to fix the fact that people just won't read the rules in the first place. It's already something they should be doing.
-
Aww, he thinks people actually read the stickies. Cute.

It should run fine massam. I run it using Windows 8.1 through Bootcamp Utility and it runs at a steady 30ish FPS on medium/high @ 1680x1050. I'm using the latest Macbook Pro with Retina Display - Quad 2.3/3.3GHz i7 - 16GB RAM - 2GB NVIDIA 750M - 512GB SSD Ignore the idiots, they have no idea what they are talking about and just bash Apple because it's the 'cool' thing to do.

Will we see optimizations for AMD users at some point along the way?
rossums replied to shawnz0rs's topic in General Discussion
The developers have been in talks with AMD and NVIDIA regarding optimisation. DayZ, compared to Arma II and Arma III is focused around a specific area so it will be much easier to optimise compared to Arma which is a very open-ended game allowing a lot of different modifications meaning that it's difficult to specifically enhance features without potentially losing others. -
'Poor baby diddums' isn't annoyed, 'poor baby diddums' is a moderator on the bugtracker and is meant to sift through reports like this day after day after day and after reading the millionth report on the same issue because OP is incapable of going through the correct channels and USING THE SEARCH FUNCTION gets VERY annoying. They don't help whatsoever and just make it harder to keep track of everything.
-
Well it's already been posted a million times and it was annoying after the first extra time. These are the reason that bugs can't be handled as fast, people post the same things over and over in the wrong place.

There will be a lot of uses for most of the junk when the crafting system is expanded.

Look here, I managed to rent an official Genuine server
rossums replied to Chris40gunc's topic in Server Advertisement
Should also add, there are no 'No-PvP'/'PvE-Only' servers. -
It works fine for me.

^^ I was going to write like 10 different ones but I got a couple in then realised I really didn't care enough to continue.

Some people don't understand English but still try to tag along. Some people just don't talk. Some people still can't work out what key they are meant to press to chat.

why is it so easy to combat logg? and is this hax? (stream)
rossums replied to kim's topic in General Discussion
It's so easy to combat-log because the anti-combat-logging measures haven't been implemented and added to the current stable build yet since the game is still in alpha. -
..and to think I was looking forward to more people on the forums in the hope of some rational discussion.
