    Download page out dated?

Are you trying to download the DayZ mod? The easiest method is by downloading DayZCommander (http://www.dayzcommander.com/) - this is hands down the best tool for DayZ the 650,000+ downloads show that. While the tool is open hit the 'Install/update' button located at the top of DayZCommander it will then show you your current version of Arma II and current version of DayZ you have installed. Hit update (or whatever it says under each heading) and i will install the latest version of each all by itself - no messing around with any files yourself.
  2. I spawned near Cherno and ran to the buildings on the outskirts, I was trying to sneak but managed to aggro zombies. I knew there was a key to activate 'Sprint' but I wasn't sure which one, after trying a few keys I found the prone key at a rather awkward time. I was then eaten. It hurt.

    Random Zombie Swarms?

I don't think a random spawn on a player would be too good, it would make the game pretty imbalanced of a player was unlucky enough to just go get spawned on. I prefer a similar idea that has been floating around the forums: Have large roaming packs of zombies randomly moving around the map. No set spawn. No set path. Large numbers. That would make it more balanced (any player could bump into them) and also make for some good survival situations - moving through Chernogorsk when you suddenly see 30 zombies coming towards you. Can't go back, there's a sniper in ready to shoot you. Do you run? Do you chance it hiding? Climb something? The whole 'spawning on the player' would ruin the authentic feel they are trying to go for, especially if you are with other players. Imagine sitting at a campfire with a friend and your friends zombies spawn on top of you, you can't move, you can't run, it's not really a fair way to die.

    game achievements?

I hate achievements with a passion and the definitely detract from the game far too much - especially a game like DayZ. I can't count the number of times people have let the team down in various games because 'Oh, I want the grenade achievement' or 'Oh, I'm only going for headshots' which is completely detrimental to the sandbox feel. ALl it will do is encourage players to camp spawn areas to try and pad their stats.

    SPAMTASTICAL

He is a complete and utter dick. I'll give you a brief overview: Basically, it centers as Dr. Horrible being the main character, he's a 'villain' character and wants to jon the Evil League of Evil but can't get anything done because Captain Hammer keeps saving the day and ruining it for him. Captain Hammer then finds out Dr Horrible's normal identity and decides to fuck him over. I don't want to spoil it more, but the whole thing is a look at who is really the bad guy? It's got a few songs in it, but it's brilliant - Captain Hammer is the typical show-off hero type whereas Dr Horrible is a quiet, shy type, it's good fun though - it's a complete piss-take of itself - here is one of the music numbers.

I'm a big fan of Firefly (My avatar is the Browncoat flag from Firefly), it is most definitely a badass show. If you're a fan of How I Met Your Mother at all, definitely check out Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog . Captain Hammer is a boss - here's a scene I put up on YouTube: wesome.

Not knowing who Nathan Fillion is!? Blasphemy! Captain Hammer (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), Captain Mal Reynolds (Firefly, Serenity), Richard Castle (Castle) - brilliant, brilliant actor - if you like Sci-Fi and haven't seen Firefly, do it now! Best. Show. Ever.

    SPAMTASTICAL

Definitely a huge increase in spam. I easily do 10+ reports per day without specifically even looking for anything - it's crazy. Maybe if some additional verification was added on the sign-up page it might tone down the bots.

    Side chat or not?

I like having side chat on, especially if I'm alone - normally provides a good source of entertainment from players going crazy after being shot. I tend not to trust anything said on side chat though, 'bandits' use it to try and lure/bait players to bring them blood or a bandage but set up an ambush.

    Remove Teamspeak.

If there was some way to prevent use of 3rd-part VOIP it would definitely make the game better by forcing 'clans' to know how/when to talk rather than using Teamspeak with no negative side to it. Realistically though it's pretty much impossible to implement.
  11. Definitely Frankie for me. JackFrags, another caster that plays with Frankie a lot, also has some nice videos himself and with Frankie. The ones he casts with Frankie are normally the same as the episodes released from Frankie but it can look so different from another perspective.

Somebody help me! Low fps issues!

Anything under 30fps is generally horrible to play with, 30-60fps is okay but can begin to get choppy in high traffic area, 60+ fps is where I like to have any game. I'm not trying to sound elitist or anything but you will truly notice the difference with a decent fps - the difference between 30ish on my laptop and 60+ on my desktop is night and day, a low fps only negatively impacts you, especially coming up against players with better systems.

Considering what's not working on DayZ

From what has been discussed regarding the weapons degradation, I'm sure they don't want weapons to be constantly breaking but they want to implement wear and tear which may cause your gun to lose accuracy or cause jamming, rather than totally breaking. (Read this somewhere, can't find a source) The base system sounds brilliant though. Rocket wants to implement the 'base building' feature where you dig underground into an instanced 'cave-like' area and you expand your base from there, adding wall supports, making it bigger, adding rooms, concrete bunkers etc. BUT these aren't safezones, if another player finds it they can easily go in, steal stuff, fight over a base among other things - it will provide great opportunities for more team-based fighting while allowing players to delve deeper into the story (Having a laboratory in the bunker to learn about the virus).
  14. I have to disagree with the use of flares, flares can be a VERY good tool to use at night, especially against opponents with NVG. If you are targeted by players with Night Vision Goggles, a nice flare can light up the area, temporarily blinding your opponent, the amount it time it takes for them to remove the goggles and allow their sight to return, you can make a clean getaway.

Considering what's not working on DayZ

As it is right now, there is nothing that can really be done. It is a brilliantly made mod but the Arma II engine was just not equipped for handling this time of game - the standalone DayZ looks to fix this. Here's a little excerpt from an interview with Rocket: I bolded some things that might be of interest to you. (Had to highlight them too, bold wasn't showing up well) They are making the zombies an opponent that it's actually worth fighting rather than just stepping around, they will be a lot more deadly - this in addition to a new weather system which will affect your temperature etc it means the world in general is a lot more deadly. No real easy way to get away from zombies anymore like running inside and letting them slow down, it's kill or be killed unless you can find a good way to ditch them. My personal favourite is the weapon degradation system, your weapon slowly breaking down on you will mean that people will be a lot less inclined to just waste ammo on zombies and other players if it means that their weapon will break. Just a few points to mull over, very good additions to the game imo. Still retains the whole 'survival simulation' feel but with the zombies becoming a real obstacle rather than a minor annoyance.
  16. Yep! Just install download and install Arma II: CO then do the same for the DayZ mod (http://dayzmod.com/?Download) and away you go!

    First impressions

The zombies will be getting completely fixed in the standalone and will have proper animations too aswell as a proper AI (Woohoo!) I have to disagree with the spawning with a weapon. You used to spawn with a pistol but it really ruined the whole 'must sneak or will die' feeling you have at the start since you can protect yourself pretty well from the start. No weapon means you have 2 choices: Run or die. Hatchets are generally easy to find and a brilliant starter weapon. Good luck tomorrow!

One thing I love about DayZ...

I have to agree. There is no other game that has captured me in a way that I get excited and very involved in it. The whole 'death system' where you respawn, no weapons, no supplies makes it all the better, you grow attached to your items that you've put effort into acquiring and you'll be damned if anyone is going to take it from you!
  19. I think Frankie is a brilliant player and has definitely given me a different outlook on the game. When I first started DayZ, I obviously struggled a little picking up all the controls and tended to shoot almost anyone that came near me with a weapon - watching his videos has taught me a great deal about certain mechanics and bugs in the game as well as some of the popular spots on Chernarus. His playstyle is one that is very similar to mine now, nice/educating to bambis but ruthless to bandits - it allows new players a chance to enjoy the game while also ensuring that my head isn't removed from my body via a well placed sniper round. Frankie and Jackfrags seem to have a lot of fun playing with each other and it really shows in the videos that it isn't all planned out - they are careful, calculating but always have a laugh while doing it. Probably my favourite DayZ caster along with JackFrags, OshiSeven is also good too but I haven't watched many of his videos yet.

    Getting sick of bandits

There is obviously a chance that the player could have followed him and caught him lighting the fire, I just gave him the benefit of the doubt that he did properly scout out the area before sitting down at a fire. It's from personal experience that if I'm away in a forest away from any cities/towns and all of a sudden someone starts trying to snipe me, it's normally a hacker - the decent players that took the time to track me and stay hidden tend not to miss :( EDIT: I wasn't very good expressing myself earlier about Berezino - obviously there are players there I just meant that in comparison to Elektro and Chernogorsk (especially with only 7 players online) it's normally a lot less busy than a more active server.

    How is it possible....??!!!

Only playing on a server with your friends so you can all gear up and amass vehicles and weapons is just as bad. If your key was stolen you either tried to download hacks or another DayZ related file which contained a trojan - they don't just get stolen magically.

    Getting sick of bandits

Honestly, you were probably killed by a hacker. Chances are if you are in a forest in a lesser-used part of the map with 7 players on it and one manages to find you and snipe you - they probably teleported. You will have to be more aggressive in your play-style, there's a difference between killing unarmed players and killing players that can and will shoot you. If you get the drop on them, you can give them a chance using voice comms to drop their weapon, if not just kill them. Be VERY weary of anyone with a bandit skin or a ghillie suit, these tend to be the players that will try to kill you on sight.
  23. rossums

I'm not sure I understand hackers.

From what I've experience it's an endless circle of hacking. It starts with the hackers who hack to harass other players with godmode, weapon spawning and teleportation. Then there are the players that get hacks to attempt to combat these 'aggressive hackers' but they end up starting to abuse them themselves. A few hackers that I've tried to talk to say they do it either because it's fun or because other people do it. I don't understand it myself, the whole point in putting time into a game is to enjoy it rather than win by cheating, it really can't be fun if you haven't really earned it - nobody will respect you at all.
  24. This is the sort of server and administration that everyone should have. Serious yet fair administrators that are willing to help and take suggestions from other players. If I had access to DayZ I'd love to join you guys but unfortunately I only have my laptop for a few weeks and won't be able to play until I get my tower back. Best of luck to you all.

    DayZ standalone micro-transactions

I'm quite thankful there are no micro-transactions. Games with a real money type store tend to be very imbalanced towards those that can afford to throw money at the game for advantages. I'm a poor student, I only have money to throw towards food. Lots of beans, everyone loves beans.
