Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
rossums replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That is far from the truth. 3rd person view gives you a very large advantage when it comes to shooting from a covered position. In 1st person view you must leave the cover to actually see the player, meaning you may get shot. In 3rd person view the camera does all the work, you can still watch your target without leaving the cover. This is the problem that people are having and it's perfectly understandable, there are far too many occasions where using 3rd party view gives a distinct advantage compared to 1st person. -
Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
rossums replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The reason 3rd-person is used so much is because it gives you an advantage, it's as easy as that. I prefer 1st-person but I use 3rd person because it makes life easier and everyone else will be doing it too. I hope they decide to fix it and force the camera closer when they approach a wall which means they can't abuse it to look over/round the wall without stick their head out - it's just pathetic. -
No matter what you block there are people that will have to ruin it for everyone else by giving themselves an unfair advantage in some way. Welcome to the internet.

Are you genuinely trying to compared one of the most developed countries in the world with some of the best medical facilities in the world with wide access to clothing, shelter and heat to a fictional post-soviet country after an apocalypse? They are quite different, especially when there is an extremely high chance that you are dehydrated, starving and have nothing but light clothing on. It will definitely be exacerbated by swimming in cold water (which happens a lot in DayZ), trauma (Getting attacked/shot happens a lot), as well as the previously mentioned hunger/dehydration. Comparing these to the death rates in the US is just laughable, at least try and cherry-pick some relevant statistics next time.

Survival and PvP are parts of surviving, of course they will be on the same icon - it's the whole point. It's NOT a PvP deathmatch game, if you don't eat and drink you will die, it's as simple as that. Eating/drinking is no challenge whatsoever, if you are totally ignoring it it's your own fault for being a bad player. DayZ is trying to move AWAY from the use of icons and HUD as much as it can, adding in extra icons is heading in the opposite direction.

What error message does it give you, if any?

Install the DayZ mod and update it using DayZCommander. http://www.dayzcommander.com/ It's just not installed properly but DayZ Commander will handle it all for you, very simple to use.- 1 reply

Come on man, at least spellcheck before you post. That just hurt to read.

There are 2 types of server. Public Hive and Private Hive. Public HIve servers you start with only the basic items (Flashlight, bandage, pack etc.) on the beach. If you log out of any public hive server, you can log in to any other public hive server and use the same character - they are all linked. Private Hive servers are privately owned and your character only exists on that specific server. The cheap loadout server you started on would be it's own server and your character only exists there.

Easiest Way to install/update DayZ
rossums replied to Spirit Waffles's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ Commander does all of that for you. -
What motherboard is it you are going with? You have both H77 chipset and Z77 chipset in the name, it has to be one or the other. If you can save money by going for the i5 2500 rather than the i5 2500K, go for it. The H77 chipset doesn't allow overclocking so there is no point in paying extra for an unlocked chip. If it is a Z77 board you may as well go for the K series chip.

Will this work?(Merry Christmas)
rossums replied to Papi (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nope, sorry. Nowhere near powerful enough for Arma II/DayZ- it is VERY CPU intensive. -
If you edit the config file at My Documents -> Arma II. Change the follow lines to the following values (Assuming your resolution is 1920x1080): WinX=0; WinY=0; WinW=1920; WinH=1080; WinDefW=1920; WinDefH=1080; Alt + Enter is used to switch between full screen and windowed. It will more than likely have proper commands to do it in the standalone, if not - the same will work, these are all locally stored variables. EDIT: You can try using -windowed -noborder as launch options too.

How to give specific people new default gear?
rossums replied to Old Skool Soldier's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You want to give only the admins a free set of gear? Isn't that a bit.. imbalanced? -
What engine will the DayZ standalone use?
rossums replied to faded's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. DayZ (mod) is on the Arma II engine. The 'Arma 2.5' engine that DayZ Standalone will be running on takes many elements from the Arma II, Arma III and Take on Helicopters engine. The engine that DayZ will use is a special engine created for use with DayZ - not an existing one. -

It's A DayZ Christmas! | THE OFFICIAL DAYZ CHRONICLES CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
rossums replied to SteveZGaming's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Na-malsk. NA-MALSK not Na-ma-lisk. Other than that, I watched it up to the point where you got gear from a hacker. The video was decent but you are far too friendly and accepting of people using hacks, your last video showed that too. I guarantee if you avoid all the hacks and hackers you would actually gain viewers. -
These are a few good sites: http://www.scan.co.uk http://www.ebuyer.co.uk http://www.dabs.com http://www.aria.co.uk http://www.overclockers.co.uk http://www.ebay.co.uk You will definitely get more for your money if you build one yourself, much better than most premade ones. I would make you a build but I'm quite busy atm, if nobody makes you one I'll do one for you later. Even buying a cheaper prebuild/bare bones from eBay or Scan or something and adding to it is sometimes a good idea too.

What DayZ has to learn from other games
rossums replied to m.w. vindicator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
They are completely redesigning the clunky Arma II inventory system for the DayZ standalone so who knows, some of these changes may already be implemented, for obvious reasons though there can't be any discussion on the specifics of it by any of the developers. I can also see the gas mask being implemented, especially with the whole 'disease/infection' system that is going to be added to the standalone. -
You honestly just have to play about with it, the 560Ti should get you good performance BUT the mod is not very well optimised so you won't be maxing it out or anything. Main thing is to make sure that your Video Memory is set to 'Default' in DayZ, anything else and it really starts to mess stuff up - other than that, play about with it and see what is best for you.

It has a very different feel compared to DayZ but it's still a good game, especially for those whole only seem to play it for the PvP.

Bought new arma2 on steam, still global banned (bear with me here)
rossums replied to crackorjack's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You know what, it's Christmas, I'll tell you the problem - you can work out how to do it yourself though. Your copy of Arma II is still using the original CD Key, you need to replace it with the new one you bought. -

Better anti-cheat needed and new player issues
rossums replied to zenstrata's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The reason Arma II is bad for it is that the Arma II engine relies heavily on scripts. This means that if a player can inject and run their own scripts they can do what they want. The DayZ standalone is being run with the same setup as an MMORPG like WoW - all the details are held on the main server (Controlled by the DayZ team) and our machines hold very few variables and are only really there to do all the heavy lifting. The whole design choice behind the standalone is stopping hackers and scripters - something that is a very big problem with Arma II. This means that players just can't run their own scripts, the DayZ server just won't allow it. zenstrata, I feel that you came expecting a full, polished game rather than an Alpha mod for another game. Alphas and Betas just aren't for everyone - there is obviously going to be problems, that's the point. The developers are wel aware of the problems but all the development time is bring put towards the DayZ standalone.
