I play on Balota Buddies. I'm special as fuck. What more reasoning do you need? _ On a more serious note, Balota Buddies is a private community of servers (UK, US, AU) and they are very well administrated and whitelisted to the point where there re pretty much 0 hackers on the servers - most of the staff are prominent DayZ forum members and Forum Moderators. There are multiple servers, some vanilla, some custom - the custom servers have a few extra buildings added (In sensible places) that help balance the game out a little (Such as a Supermarket in Kamenka) - there are also custom loot tables which remove some of the bugged weapons (Rocket Launcher, etc) and add in a few other balanced weapons. A great group of servers with a decent community if you want to join. Check out the forums here: http://balotabuddies...

If you jump on the TeamSpeak server and get whitelisted you can talk to some of the players online and see what server you want to join.

microtransactions are becoming 'the thing' for big companies that don't give a shit about their playerbase and only want to make money. There are plenty of developers out there that don't constantly try to fuck their players over every single little thing. In a sandbox game like this, it would kill it - there is no doubt about it. Any remote advantage given to a player for paying extra money just defeats the point in a game like this, even cosmetic gear would be stupid as it would give them an advantage over the players starting with the most 'HEY LOOK AT ME, IM NEW' clothing,

He probably doesn't specifically mean players that just play Call of Duty - that's a bit of a broad generalisation. He's referring to the generation of gamers that have grown up on crappy, instant-gratification games like Call of Duty over the last 5 or so years which expect everything to be handed to them and only think about themselves - if you haven't seen the trend in the general attitude of new games you are kidding yourself. Earlier on in development the DayZ mod was a lot more 'friendly' and players actually tried to help each other rather than killing on sight - once it became 'popular' and got more into the mainstream the 'COD-Kids' got a hold of it and just treated it like any other FPS that they played. It's not their fault, they haven't really been given the opportunity to play a proper team game, even more team-oriented games like Battlefield have devolved to cater more to the 'SHOOT ANYTHING THAT MOVES HURR DURR' crowd, it's sad but it's reality. You can definitely see the different attitudes in groups of players, for example: Back when WoW was released it was a brilliant game, you could actually trust other players and it was populated by like-minded people who were playing it because they were a fan of the Warcraft world and story. Once it became 'mainstream' as a nerdy thing to do it attracted the 'omg look at me, I'm sooooo nerdy' crowd and then the 'I play it because it's popular' crowd. Blizzard started doing things they said that they would never do just to appeal to the lowest common denominator. You can definitely see what he is talking about when you look at the attitudes of some players but that's just what gaming has become for a lot of people nowadays,

I don't think it will either, it's just not a game where micro-transactions would work.. at all. If it was ever to be implemented I could guarantee the feedback from players would NOT be positive and would be a very bad move for BI and the team. Rocket has already said there would be 'hundreds and hundreds' of clothing choices to choose from which I much prefer to single whole 'skins'. I won't be happy though until I can dance in the middle of the airfield wearing a long dress and a motorbike helmet.

Looks like you answered your own question :) If you care about your gear a lot I'd genuinely consider playing on a private hive server, there tend to be significantly less hackers and you tend not to lose your gear due to something completely outwith your control when some angry little script -kiddy decides to ruin it for everyone. I recommend you check out the Balota Buddies servers (ones I play on) or check the private hive section of the forums, there tends to be an actual 'community' on these servers compared to the public hive at the moment. Once you lose your gear (Which will happen, as always) you should give a private server a try.

Brilliant watch, hope you do more :) Will definitely watch part 2.

To me, getting gear spawned for you and using it is just as bad as spawning it yourself.

Public Chernarus servers. wtf.
rossums replied to Admiral_Blunts's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here is a link to all current servers: -
If you're under the age of 16, not squeal on side chat with your mic. Other than that, just check the controls from the menu, play for a bit and rebind any commands to different keys that you feel better to use. The rest of it is all down to how you play and what you prefer.

Which should I use? DayZ commander or PlayZ withSIX
rossums replied to BrianArthurGibson's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DayZ Commander. All the cool cats use DayZ Commander - it's quite a bit better than PlayWithSix as far as playing additional maps and rolling back versions etc. goes. -
Public Chernarus servers. wtf.

Well saying that was just stupid - you've gone and jinxed yourself now. Rookie error. -

How can people just run around town with rifles?
rossums replied to Wick94's topic in New Player Discussion
The easiest way is to run with your primary weapon, it has the power to stop anything dead in its tracks, player or zombie. After you are more comfortable with being around zeds you'll find it easy to run from building to building and looting in the time when the zombies are hobbling through the building towards you, leaving you to just stroll out leaving them behind. -
Public Chernarus servers. wtf.
rossums replied to Admiral_Blunts's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They also have vanilla servers in addition to the custom servers. -
Public Chernarus servers. wtf.
rossums replied to Admiral_Blunts's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ever since it became really 'popular' (August onwards) it's been getting gradually worse. Most players nowadays play on private hive servers with admins, there are rarely any hackers on whitelisted servers and if there are they are normally dealt with straight away. The problem nowadays are all the morons that have no experience running a server, no experience in any admin stuff and completely the wrong mentality to do so abusing admin powers and hacking/cheating themselves. Just find a good server and settle down there, it's brilliant fun. I recommend checking out the Balota Buddies servers - I've not played for almost a month (No capable computer at the moment) but for the months I've played on the server there has been 0 trouble with any hackers whatsoever. -
He must be talking about the aim assist in all PC FPS games. Oh wait nope, that's console - my bad. The only advantage to using a mouse is the ability to quickly acquire a target since the mouse is a more accurate pointing device compared to joysticks.

Dayz Mercenary: New features and PVP footage
rossums replied to 1O1Larry's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I'm not a big fan of rmany variations on DayZ but I really like the look of mercenary - nice video too. -
You can have multiple pistols in your backpack, yes. But you can only have one equipped at a time - just like all weapons. Main weapons take up 10 slots whereas sidearms take up 5 slots.

The things you're not proud of. What you did in Dayz. Tell us your stories.

I had recently spawned near Elektro and managed to pick up a Lee Enfield in a nearby barn. In the distance I spotted someone prone, shuffling down the road making their way into Elektro, confused as to what the hell he was doing I got a better vantage point and watched him. He caught the attention of a zombie, sat up and killed the zombie with a hangun, immediately crumpling back to the ground and continued to shuffle away. Okay, his legs are broken and he's armed and will probably then fire at me if he sees me. Great. I followed him a little around the general outskirts a little north of Elektro and I saw him stop in a little clearing for a couple of minutes, I was thinking about just putting him out of his misery and leaving to go loot the Power Station nearby. Suddenly, 2 other guys came out of nowhere right next to him, all kitted up with what I could identify as some sort of rifle (Turned out to be a DMR) and some variant of the M4 ( I can't remember what exactly) and started to fix up our little shuffling buddy. They had their backs turned to me and I just decided 'Ahh, fuck it, waited here far too long, can't let my haul get away' and I cracked both of his guardian angels and immediately left my vicinity after ringing the dinner bell for all our life-challenged friends. I made my way down to where the bodies lay and the guy was panicking and had apparently ran out of ammo and begged me to fix his legs for them and told me one of the players was bringing him morphine. I agreed to leave a morphine on the corpses and not to shoot him before I left. Since he was talking to me through voice-chat I hadn't really been paying attention to his name, but just as I was leaving I said goodbye in Direct Chat to which he responded and I noticed his name as someone who had shot me when I spawned in a day or two earlier. Me being the petty person that I am decided to head back to the body, swap out the M4 for the Lee Enfield and fire off a few shots before quickly switching back and running off. The level of hell I brought down on that guy I feel quite bad for but I did find it hilarious at the time. He didn't find it so funny. Karma being the cruel mistress that she is meant that I managed to survive about 20 mins while I looked for some basic gear I didn't manage to loot (Compass, Map etc) and I was shot by some wonder-kid camping Elektro with an AS50. Oh well, time to start again. Again. -
What are your stories of friendship or betrayal?
rossums replied to campaign_junkie's topic in New Player Discussion
I naively decided to help some guy in Cherno. I had recently spawned on the outskirts, made my way into the city and managed to pick up and AK47 as well as a few mags and a bag of food. Someone approached me asking for help, we played around for about 10mins trying to fix up a bus then I decided to lead them to a shotgun I found earlier. They decided to fire the shotgun which caused us to get pinned down in a room, each shot we fired in defense attracted more - rather than actually shoot their way out they took the cowardly way out and shot me instead. I never normally help people I don't know and I doubt I really will do so again any time soon, anyway. -
whats your favorite gun for slaying survivors
rossums replied to shreddedrocks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lee Enfield. Ringin' the dinner bell gets everyone moving. -
You could complain about the lack of people complaining which isn't allowing you to complain. It seems to follow the logic of the whiners, I guess.

Pistols are incredibly underpowered
rossums replied to Shrapnell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've always found pistols quite good in a pinch against players. Bare in mind that it's 12000 to kill but can be a significant amount less to severely injure or cripple them - bleeding also plays a part. -
I got an annoying spawn like that. I was on top of the main hospital roof and I logged in just next to where the medical box spawns, there was a guy on the highest point and he just shot me as soon as I moved. That was a bad Day(Z).
