" does not expect that DayZ will reach beta status before the end of 2014."
rossums replied to vrsick's topic in General Discussion
Technically we are both right. The December 2012 release was a different project, they were essentially going to repackage Arma II with the DayZ Mod files and call it a day. The were then given then chance to release a fully custom game and they scrapped the original project and began working on the DayZ Standalone which we have now. -

They were NEVER going to release the Standalone in December 2012 - that's just a load of crap - the mod only came out in April/May 2012. The standalone was only announced in August 2012. They have no 'track record' of not releasing anything, it's only fan boys playing guessing games and getting it totally wrong then crying about it when it doesn't come true. Edit: I should probably add, they were originally going to bundle the Arma II Mod with Arma II and call it a standalone, that project got scrapped after a couple of months since they got the opportunity to make a proper new game. -

It doesn't matter. You have no clue what you're crying about and that's all that matters. Don't know how you got Q3 2015 from: That's all sorts of special. -
People will kill themselves over and over to get the perk that they want.

They will be added when the vehicle system is redone. There is 0 point in putting them in now.

Why is the Bug Reporter filled with advertising/chinese links?
rossums replied to DayzForumer's topic in General Discussion
Because bots have been posting advertising and Chinese links. -
The country is where the server is located. Most players just choose the country closest to theirs to makes sure they get the best connection (due to the lowest ping).

Already frustrated, new player needs advice
rossums replied to BenCy's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't get annoyed because I rarely die. If you die, 9/10 times it's your own fault. People want to do everything quickly, sometimes you just have to slow down and scout out an area and pay attention before moving in to loot - keep your eyes open. The looting process is generally pretty quick and easy, you just have to be careful and make sure you've always got a method of escape if someone is to attack you - no need for shooting on sight. Don't trust anybody, you don't have to kill them but NEVER trust them without them giving you a reason to do so, along with this you should also never put yourself in a position where anyone can easily take advantage and get a jump on you. -
Don't worry, the web development team are on it. I'll delete some, there are LOADS though.

It's called growing up. You grow realise that camping fresh spawns is pathetic and actually decide to do something worthwhile or at least impressive.
-
If you want to have a safe place, MAKE ONE. Post guards on the door, lookouts on the roof of nearby buildings, search people as they enter. The game isn't about forcing safezones, it's about giving players the chance to do pretty much anything they want and not restricting play with unrealistic 'gamey' mechanics.

Hehe, I already suggested this in a developer/tester chat - I desperately want this. The good trade off is that with the MOLLE system you could potentially have a lot more space than some of the other fixed space bags but since they are broken into pouches some items can't fit in like they would on a large single area bag. Example: Rifle requires 8 slots (4 horizontal, 2 vertical) MOLLE capable backpack has 24 base slots (3 horizontal, 8 vertical) and 2 attached pouches (2 horizontal x 2 vertical) Hiking bag has 20 slots (5 horizontal, 4 vertical) The hiking bag is smaller overall (20 slots to the 32 on the MOLLE bag) but the way the bag and pouches are laid out the rifle wouldn't fit in the technically more spacious MOLLE bag. It would make it a more conscious choice as to what equipment you would use for whatever situations (Some bags are smaller and wider, some are bigger more suited for carrying multiple smaller items).

Some Suggestions for the Hardcore Mode and its Hive

It is not completely, especially at long distances. The quality does change it. -

And they will all be locked on ON. If the are allowed to change terrain and textures it totally defeats the purpose behind having them locked, you can turn terrain detail to low and all the foliage disappears. On your screen you might be hiding behind some foliage, on their screen you're in the middle of nowhere. -
And how do you work that out? Dean has, on multiple occasions, tried to dissuade players from buying the game in it's current state - that's a fact. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/155089-is-it-worth-buying-dayz-standalone-yet-rocket-response/#entry1554128 https://twitter.com/rocket2guns/status/413756088568119296 https://twitter.com/rocket2guns/status/413747423693901824 He'd rather most players waited and bought it later than right now where testers are needed, not players.

The only reason a lot of items seem so common is that there are next to no items on the loot table. Once they add other clothing options along with junk there won't seem to be the same things in every other building.
-
Not any time soon. Believe it or not, the developers DON'T want everyone to buy the game in its current state which is why they chose not to put it on sale during the Steam Winter Sale.
-
You misunderstand though, no matter how many players you send off there will still be KoS - it's part of the game and part of the risk you take every time you choose to reveal yourself out in the open. Artificially segregating players isn't really simulating anything, we are being dropped on a map and some choose to KoS and some don't - that's as close as you're going to get.
-
Players are a big part of DayZ; both good AND bad encounters. The majority of players that get killed either get killed because they make a silly mistake or mistakenly trust someone - both which can be prevented easily by staying in cover and being aware of your surroundings. Without these aspects it's just another shitty shooter, it's nothing to do with PvP or PvE choices - encountering another player is always a risk which is what adds the fear of the unknown in DayZ KoS is a problem with certain players wanting to take the easy route which they will ALWAYS do to prevent them from losing their precious pixels - they will pass it off as them being macho but they are just scared - no mechanics will change that.
-
Well that's your own fault, you took took a chance and you were wrong. Welcome to DayZ.. actually, Welcome to Life.
-
That's part of the game - with more items being added players can choose to use a specific identifiable item to help identify with friends in a group (For example, all players wear the Wolf Payday mask). Floating name tags just totally ruin the game, they remove any real tactical ability making the game just another crappy shootfest. Sort of pointless trying to hide if the player can sit 400m away and just hover over your general area to get a big "Spesago" above their your head, don't you think? Best way will be the ability to modify existing items to suit the situation (i.e. Add a large orange patch to your bag or spray-paint your helmet blue), in-game methods are always preferable to external methods.

Yep, sales are far more than they expected and it's still going up! You can't stop the hype train! -
English is by far the most prevalent language on the forums, why would an English forum not be needed?
