  1. Okay, assuming those 100,000 people don't purchase the game because they don't get an easy life with a terrible implementation of third person. How many will purchase BECAUSE the game has first person only? You don't know. What about those 100,000 that cave and buy the game anyway? If Rocket wanted to maximise potential sales DayZ standalone wouldn't be DayZ at all, DayZ is meant to be hard, it's meant to be limiting, not fun for all the family like CoD etc. which caters to anyone capable of mashing a controller. Third person persepective is terribly broken and totally detracts from the experience - like it or not - third-person needs either removed or tweaked to stop providing such a game-breaking advantage.
  2. If you look at the poll on Reddit, ~90% of current players (at least) will still go ahead and buy the game, even with only first-person perspective. Not to mention all the other gamers who maybe haven't been paying attention and haven't played DayZ yet - if there are players that won't buy it because they don't get to use the 3rd-person camera to see over/round walls and obstacles, these are the players that wouldn't fare well in a game like DayZ. DayZ is meant to be hard, it's meant to be brutal, it's meant to be unforgiving - having 3rd-person available in its current state completely detracts from that. 'Oh god, I can hear a guy, is he round the corner!?' *peeks round the corner using 3rd-person* Oh, no he's not and you get to go on your merry way. The best part of DayZ is the threat of the unknown and how tense it can make things feel, the ability to peek round and over things that your character really couldn't see from a nice safe vantage point ruins it. Oh, someone has you pinned down and you don't know where they are? Oh don't worry, you can peek over the massive rock and scout them out from your safe little place - that shouldn't happen. If you want to be rewarded with the knowledge of where the player is you should have to stick your head out and actually risk it.
  3. It shouldn't be removed but it should be tweaked to balance it with 1st-person. The entire problem seems to be that using 3rd-person gives you a significant FOV advantage as well as the ability to see over obstacles - forcing the camera closer to the player while up close to an object would fix that, a similar method to many other 3rd-person shooters. 1st-person could also have a widened FOV as it seems to be quite narrow at the moment. There is no real need to remove it if it is still possible to disable via server rules but making sure that 1st and 3rd person are more balanced is a must have - that way it is a lot fairer and people can use their preferred view without gaining any advantages.
  4. It would definitely help. I think the main problem is that there is a clear advantage using third-person, mainly due to the crazy large field of view, over and under obstacles in compared to the very limited view in first-person. If they widened the field of view a bit and added the additional stances it would definitely enhance the current first-person experience which I feel is far too limited. I prefer using first person, it definitely gives a better experience but third-person just gives too much of an advantage, I hope they do put a lot of effort into FPV for the standalone.
  5. I'd be fine with third-person as long as they fixed the viewable area. With third-person able to peek over walls, through walls, round corners etc without your character physically doing it, it trvialises a lot of encounters. If third-person view was fixed to the same as first-person and prevented you from peeking over walls, etc., I'd be fine with it. The first-person view needs a little FOV tweak but that's about it.

    Some gun suggestions

DayZ isn't set in the Czech Republic though, it's set in Chernarus. http://community.bistudio.com/wikidata/images/6/66/arma_2_island_locations.jpg There is a difference between it being available and being widespread, weapons like the Mosin Nagant, SKS and PPSh were made in their millions for the Soviet military, weapons that are often kept by veterans, farmers and other civilians due to their cheap cost to purchase and maintain. Rocket said there was to be more of a focus on the lower end and civilian levels of weaponry and these are the type of weapons that you would find in an area like Chernarus, there will be more advanced weapons making their way into Chernarus due to the rebel fighting in the area but the Russian presence in the region would mean a definite influx of cheap Russian weaponry compared to that of other countries.

    Some gun suggestions

Flare guns have been suggested a million times over but for good reason, I think they'd fit quite well in the current setting. I don't feel all the other fancy weapons really fit the part, so to speak, I think there should be a lot more focus on Russian weaponry, as well as a bigger focus on civilian and lower-end gear. Here are some examples of widely used Russian arms that could be included: PPSh-41 SKS Mosin Nagant SVT-40 SV-98 AEK-971 A-91 Molot Bekas-M Some of the weapons are more advanced than others, many WW2/Korean War era weaponry that would be found in more rural areas that were available very cheaply. Most of the weapons could also benefit from the weapon attachment system for using a more powerful scope or extended magazines as well as bipods for the longer range rifles to reduce sway.
  8. Mostly play on third-person enabled server but would like to use first-person a lot more, third person is pretty much a necessity on these serves though since it provides such an advantage in comparison to purely first-person.

    What happened to the servers?

There are plenty good servers that provide a challenge, you should try DayZero, it's the popular mod at the moment and it is definitely a challenge. Unfortunately, the more popular the game becomes the more morons that come with all their little friends and try everything to either give themselves an advantage or just make the game easier for them.

    New DayZ Community

I have two questions: 1] How do you get [uGL] from 'UnderGroundGaming' ? 2] What is your obsession with sparkles on the usernames? This isn't the early 90's.

Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62

A better question. Why do you even want to attempt to shoot down a chopper with 2 gunners from 300-400 meters away? You don't HAVE to shoot them from the air, the easiest way is to wait when they land or try to refuel, when they are at their weakest and most exposed If you hit the pilot or the main rotor while they are flying they are also pretty much screwed, easily done with even a Lee Enfield - door gunners are pretty exposed too - it's not hard at all, using the high-end sniper rifles just make it ridiculously trivial which it shouldn't really be if the chopper is meant to be the 'end-game' level of vehicle.

    What the fffuweapon damage??

I'm ignorant? Get your head out your ass, Rocket has said time and time again that's it's not meant to be realistic, it's meant to be authentic. If it was realistic we would be playing a bloody game full of zombies, if you haven't realised, zombies aren't real - we aren't playing base Arma, we aren't using ACRE so it doesn't matter if those are meant to be realistic or not, we're playing DayZ mod - essentially a different game. This was for 1.62, it got scrapped so I have no idea why people are crying about it now anyway - the whole point is if it was purely realism we were going for there wouldn't be a game, even low calibre rounds would essentially kill any character so weapon damage wouldn't really matter at all - there has to be a balance between realism and fun that still keeps it a good experience.
  13. Rocket has said before that he doesn't want it to be about 'levelling up' and having to allocate levels to skills etc. What he did want is a way for you to become better/faster at certain actions the more they are done as you gain a sort of experience with the method - it's not going to be a player facing +XP or +level type thing though, just a hidden increase after it's been repeated enough and mastered.

    What the fffuweapon damage??

Shoot them in the head. It's not meant to be 'realistic'.

I think this sums it up quite nicely. /thread

    My 2 cents

Being able to coordinate and identify each other is a big part of teamwork. Try wearing similar clothes to help recognise each other, best thing about having a 'uniform' is quick identification.. well.. unless the US is on your side because they just fire anyway.

    Zombie behavior

The problem at the moment are just limitations of the Arma engine - it wasn't made for zombies. SO far in the Standalone the zombies have a full set of proper animations as well as an attack that knocks you down so they can attack you properly.

    Dayz Public Development

How is this in anyway relevant? Minecraft was developed in a closed environment by Notch/Mojang - nothing to do with a public release.. so 'get your facts straight' as you so kindly put it. You have no idea how much hassle it would be to crowd-source a project like this, it will be released when it's released. They don't need any more people, they will be getting some of the Arma III developers when their current project is finished.

    Dayz Public Development

You sound utterly clueless. How can they open a game (which they will be selling) to the public. All that causes is problems due to crappy code, potential security problems, problems when it comes to attribution and payment just to start. Quit whining about dev time (which for such a small team isn't that long at all when you consider the scope of the project.)

    Hey guys

Berezino also has a tank monument in front of the Supermarket.
  21. They can ban whoever they want. Origin has gone to shit anyway and it will continue to do so - try DayZero, it's the 'big' mod at the moment.

    Non-PvP?

I played on a non-PvP RP server but the non-PvP aspect totally killed it for me. There is no real threat and it's literally just running around gathering gear to do.. nothing. Bandits are the driving force behind DayZ and without the threat of bandits I don't see any real reason on gearing up past a certain point just to shoot zombies or AI squads.

    female character ?

There were women originally in DayZ but they were having a lot of problems with the different skins so they removed women in the vanilla DayZ mod.
