You have a rough idea where you are, you won't spawn in the same specific area of your choice. That is right, it does allow you and 2-3 other people to hop on a server and jump straight in with each other, why don't you see this as a problem? If you want the advantage of a group you should have to put forth the effort in navigating yourselves to a rendezvous area. If you want a game that's quick and easy for you all to group up and play together like a happy family DayZ isn't it - everything is meant to be a challenge and if you want an advantage you should have to work for it. Navigation and the ability to use proper tactics and your abilities are what make DayZ different from everything else, it's all down to your skills, if you want a group - go make it. -

I still don't give a fuck what he wants it to be - what he choose as his story has no bearing on mechanics. He can make it whatever he wants, it still has no impact on the game itself - it invalidates nothing, it's just irrelevant to this discussion. I'm not biased, I will on occasion have a backstory for a character, it's just nothing to do with a thread talking about a crappy spawn system. -

The whole point in the game is it was meant to be hard from the get go, you were to spawn and you would want to get geared up ASAP to protect yourself - part of that was getting your initial bearings and where you are and what you want to do. Allowing players just to choose where to spawn completely detracts from the early game, there is no real need for players to use landmarks to get their bearings - you already know EXACTLY where you're going to be and will just beeline to exactly where you want to go. Nobody gives a fuck what YOU want your backstory to be, the fact of the matter is that you come to conciousness in a coastal area and that's when you take control of your character, after than you can be a little pony loving princess and you can pick daisies and sing with all the woodland creatures if that's what you want to do. The only reason that the 'choose-a-spawn' crap would be added was to allow players to get back into the action quicker, this is NOT what DayZ is about and they should trying to be pushing for the complete opposite, there is nothing more annoying than killing someone and having them respawn 2 minutes away and continue after you time and time again - it takes no class, no skill, no tactics - merely a pain in the ass. You are NOT meant to have anything handed to you, everything you find, every journey you take should be another chance for you to be killed or get lost - not for you to choose the closest place to where you died so you can run back to your body like all the other baddies. -

I think they should implement something to stop the morons from killing themselves to get a better spawn. Your spawn isn't meant to be a good thing, you're meant to wake up, disoriented and put some effort into finding your bearings and gearing up a little before venturing into the more contested areas. Oh, you spawn in Kamenka? Tough shit - get walking. -

Yup, was a stupid idea to be implemented in the first place and the complete opposite of the spirit of DayZ. People just choose the optimal spawns and then other people just camp the spawn areas - totally ridiculous.- 74 replies

Pretty much everything. Players stay in the same spots, ACTIVE vehicles that have been recently used and are NOT destroyed will remain, ACTIVE tents that have been recently used will remain - all loot will refresh and any 'dropped' items will be lost. -
I found that sometimes I had to manually load Arma and join a game for the BE to properly update itself - it didn't matter if I added the newest .dll files by hand it would NOT work - give that a try if you already haven't.

I don't see what point you are trying to make. The whole 'ambush' scenario is definitely something that happens in real life and has been used for centuries. Oh, look at the poor merchant with his cart at the side of the road, wheel broken, should I help him? It could be an ambush, he could genuinely be stuck, he might only want to rob you - either way, the entire point of the situation is that the 'enemy' appears to have surrendered and have willingly put themselves in a vulnerable position - that's where the skill and ability to deduce what the situation REALLY is on the part of the player is involved.

I think there could be an opportunity here to take advantage of melee weapons too. If they decided to add in a load of lower end melee weapons they could potentially be used for knocking enemies unconscious rather than outright killing them - it will do minimal damage but a high chance to knock them out, especially if the assault is made from behind the target. I reckon that could change the dynamic of a lot of encounters rather than them all being insta-KoS. Edit: It could also give a lot of flexibility with the crafting system, allowing you to add nails and more.. 'lethal' additions to the more basic weapons to make them more viable.

They will definitely be aiming to work within a certain time-frame, the fact is at the moment if any issues are to arise they have the flexibility to spend more time on it, this wouldn't really be the case if there were a concrete release date announced. I'd rather they aimed for when they are aiming (End of this yearish) and had time to iron any problems out that they encounter rather than running into problems just before release and having to push out shoddy work.

Bayonet 2x4 Lead piping Branch/big ass stick Iron rail (From a fence or gate) Rebar Spade/shovel Cleaver Hammer Screwdriver Wrench ++ I prefer the more.. basic weapons that you would realistically find all over the place, it also provides opportunity for future enhancement to the weapons sing the crafting system as well as the ability to easily get a crappy weapon in a pinch. -
DayZ Community afraid of the Dark?

They will have to make some tweaks to the lighting engine for night if they want people to play, most of the time it's far too dark to really do anything - it doesn't help when on a lot of servers players are starting with kit and weapons so nobody can really use flares without being shot in the face. I hope Standalone means that players will be forced through the whole day/night cycle rather than taking the easy route with the 24/7 daylight servers. The night is a very important aspect of gameplay and affords many players the chances to do things and go places that they otherwise might not be able to do during daylight. -
You DON'T need to have another instance of Arma II running in the background - that would lag like hell!
