  1. I think it was more a poor choice of words on my part, lets assume they can't reach since he fell out quite a distance and into the boat. They aren't really capable of jumping and navigating properly so they would probably fall in, I just kept them stuck up top since it's an engine limitation (They normally run back to shore and start swimming) and probably a pain in the ass to implement in a video without a lot of tweaking. Their swimming isn't the greatest either.
  2. Make: Less emphasis on letting the morons run around shooting everyone and more emphasis on teamwork to 'advance'.More emphasis on the 'low-end' with melee weapons and lesser guns such as shotguns and hunting rifles.Emphasis on 'crafting' for early advancement rather than 'loot x' constantly.More emphasis on survival aspects (disease/temperature)Benefit to having a longer last character, some form of 'progression' but nothing artificial or character facing numbercrunching.Break: Donator perksSafe zonesCommon weapons and ammunitionBad zombie pathingKill messagesPandering to the noobs that want it easy.If DayZ wants to get anywhere it just can't continue to be a bad sandbox shooter. There MUST be more emphasis on survival or all it will do is attract the PvP idiots at launch who will then move on to the next 'big' thing and leave a terrible game for the rest of us.
  3. We see him at the start being chased down a pier by men covered in blood ,zombies, they are covered in blood and running towards him at enormous speed - fixated - he backs towards the far end of the pier in a panic. -CUT- He is now at the end of the pier, pretty much surrounded by the rapid humans as one of the zombies lunges towards him and he falls off the edge of the pier... -CUT- ...landing ass first in a little boat. The zombies stand on the pier, not daring to jump after him and he manages to get the engine started and makes his way down the coast. -CUT- He is a lot further down the coast when he spots somebody trying to get his attention so he heads his boat towards the coast to see what it is. -CUT- Turns out the person trying to get his attention is a 'bandit' who waits until he disembarks from the boat and gives him a nice CRACK in the head when he turns around. -CUT- You wake up after an hour or so covered in sand, wet to the core with the waves lapping up and over your legs, the time you spent unconscious playing havoc on your memory - you finally get the strength to stand upright. -CUT- Boat gone. Bandit gone. Things in his bag, all but gone save a flashlight a bandage and a few clothing items. You are LOST. The world has changed and people are doing whatever they must to ensure their own survival but you are still unsure about exactly what just happened. You are still naive.. for now. DAYZ yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Edit: At this point he still isn't sure what's happening, he knows that some people are total dicks though which would allow you to expand a lot - once he finds the body he will still be unsure of what is happening but he definitely knows something is wrong but he is still unsure how to handle the situation.
  4. There is no real hero weapon (Apart from the manly Lee Enfield). It's whatever a hero uses:
  5. I think the whole concept of an open forum totally confounds you. Yes, it's their servers but it's still totally fucking stupid. Baddies are abusing the fact that DayZ is an open mod and using it to their advantage because they can't play on an even field - for countless years there have been countless games that people have donated to servers and expected nothing in return - y'know, like an actual donation.
  6. Yup, confirmed, definitely a troll - nobody could be THAT fucking stupid.
  7. Yup, it's a load of crap and sadly quite popular - especially on all the crappy PvP servers. People should DONATE because they want to help the server they play on, giving $20 and getting 'donator perks' is not donating, you're paying for an advantage over other players.
  8. Either way, the outcome will be good enough. He either doesn't come back and we have one less bot or he does come back and realises that we are all total cunts and then just leaves, never to return. I voted that I'd pay whatever if there was a special release - if it's while it's in alpha though I'd happily pay up to 20EUR and begrudgingly pay up to 30EUR.

    MustyGaming presents Epoch

Who are the admins for the EU servers?
  10. Lie down on a rock and watch as my legs don't magically lose all function.

    Strange siren sound

It's just part of the ambient soundtrack - it has no real meaning. It certainly spooks people though!
  12. Where exactly was it hidden? There are plenty of places on Chernarus that are such good hiding places that they are terrible because EVERYONE tries to hide things there.
  13. Well look at how many The War Z sold and it was a steaming pile of shit with no existing userbase. If you don't think DayZ will sell many copies, regardless of condition, you're being extremely naive. There was a poll on the forums a while back too, the majority of players said they would buy it whenever it came out and they didn't really care how long it took.

What happened to good ol' DayZ?

Unfortunately server owners are catering for the larger population which means they tend to cater for the lowest common denominator.. all the little kids that will donate for guns and bases etc. The standalone will definitely be what you are looking for, but for the mod you're just going to have to look - I'm not playing at the moment so I'm not sure exactly what vanilla servers exist - I know they definitely exist though, hopefully someone can recommend you something a bit more specific. The community has went way downhill, it happens to every game when it becomes popular - people join and pretty much try to force the game to fit the same easy-peasy formula as every other game.

What happened to good ol' DayZ?

If you want a decent DayZ experience check out DayZero, there are also a few vanilla servers kicking around. Don't worry, all the kiddies are going to get a surprise when the standalone comes and they don't get everything handed to them on a silver platter. Edit: And keep VERY far away from the pile of crap that is Epoch.

Fix The Spawn At Coast Bug!

You are aware you just asked a question in a thread that's over a year old?
  17. I don't think that giving benefits to certain players due to their playstyle would be a very good idea, it really imbalances the PvP aspect of the game. Not sure what benefit being able to detect other bandits/heroes nearby would do, other than give players a heads up to a PvP scenario before it's even happened. The game and your story is meant to be based on the choices you make, being able to identify as a 'hero' or 'bandit' before earning the title just trivialises it all, really.
  18. You'd be surprised the things you can find if you jump on the ATV and hug the northern and western boundaries of Chernarus.
  19. It will be a lot better in the standalone, zombies will be an actual threat and won't just magically slow down when coming inside - you will be forced to deal with them one way or another. Ammo will also be significantly more scarce meaning that even if you are armed zombies will still be a large problem (especially since gunfire will attract even more). I think that this will put a lot of emphasis on the new 'quick-switching' inventory system and the reliance on melee weapons for quietly dispatching any problematic zombies. If you want to get to the supermarket you'll have to chop your way through and grab some gear quick before you are overwhelmed.

Military safe zones in the SA?

Safe zones? If you want to be somewhere safe I recommend you take a look at this game: http://www.hellokittyonline.com/
  21. This would be a good solution. I think the ability to loot your own body at the moment is purely down to the limitations of the engine since it's built on Arma II and they didn't want to mess with it too much. Being able to run back to your body to me is very.. arcadey which DayZ is not meant to be
  22. There is no way it will be moddable to the same extent that the current mod is - it's literally not possible without compromising the security that they put in place. The current game allows you to directly add scripts wherever you want, this won't be able to happen in the standalone without making the game more vulnerable. How moddable it becomes is down to Rocket and Bohemia though, I can't imagine them allowing it to get to the extent it is now by allowing administrators such overreaching powers and abilities that directly affect the game.
  23. DayZ Stanadlone will be DayZ - it WILL sell, I can guarantee you that - it's going to be real DayZ though, not the bastardised waste of space that a lot of players play. Most players would be better suited to playing Wasteland or Arma II, they are not playing DayZ for DayZ which seems a little pointless to me, if they simply want to spawn with weapons and shoot other people there are plenty of games which allow this at a much more refined level. It will be brutal, it will be unforgiving, it will be DayZ.
  24. This is WHY they like to PvP in DayZ a lot of them, a lot of players simply don't want to KoS and would rather be friendly but a forced into shooting due to fear of being shot themselves, there was a thread a while back where most of the players that admitted shooting on site did purely out fear of being shot first. I hope they make it as harsh as possible to the point where KoS is still a perfectly viable option but not one that is just as easy choice to make as moving on is - limited ammo, damaging gear and more aggressive zombies will do just this.
