Anyone else not like trade zones?

Protected safe/trade-zones are probably the worst thing to happen to the game so far - completely defeats the entire purpose behind the game.
  2. How is it 'stupid gear' - it's pretty common throughout the world. Don't worry, you can still kill your new spawns on the beach like the scary little bandit you are, I'd assume it'd be pretty rare if implemented.

    Traps

I think there should be a lot more emphasis on more conventional methods like this. If you want to attack someone , you are realistically going to want to be in a safe position waiting for them to give you an opening - not run in guns blazing like a retard shooting everyone as soon as you see them - there are just too many factors for that to be even a remotely logical choice. Anything that provides more varied game play like this instead of relying purely on guns gets my vote - there are so many interesting things we could be doing with the survival and stealth aspects. __ The best one I got was a friend and I managed to catch part of a conversation on side chat about a chopper at a certain location - knowing that it's on side chat we just assumed it was going to be a trap so we kept our distance and made our way to the chopper. The chopper was on the roof at Polana factory, we came from the south, heading north, and decided to stay in the treeline and watch the chopper for a short amount of time. My friend spotted zombies on one of the deer-stands in the distance which meant there were players nearby, uh-oh, we only had a Lee Enfield and a CZ550. Using the CZ my friend kept an eye on them - 2 guys with ghillies, one AS50 and one DMR. Oh great. I had to eat my dinner so we both just sat watching the factory and he decided to grab a bite to eat too - after around 20 minutes or so we got some movement! The 2 guys had obviously gotten bored so they bee-line straight for the chopper on the Polana roof, unluckily for them they had landed it in a way that the chopper was facing directly towards us. Morons. We waited until they jumped in the chopper and turned the ol' bird on and then we both opened fire on the cockpit. 2 dead players - not the ones that THEY expected. The fallout on side chat after that made the long wait totally worth it - we were accused of teleporting, using invisibility, god mode - you name it, we apparently had it - these guys could not accept they just got ganked and insisted that we were cheating. The admins took a look at the logs and informed them that the only thing about the situation that was funnier than them being killed was the fact that the admin had been aware of the entire thing and found it totally hilarious, I don't think I ever recall seeing them after that event..
  4. It's a simple suggestion that I couldn't find elsewhere on the forums. How often have you rolled into Elektro to see dead bodies in the middle of the road and just follow the trail of corpses into the fire station where the poor little survivor is trying to bandage his wounds? I think they should enable the ability to drag the corpses of zombies so you can try and cover your tracks or even lay a fake trail to trick other players. With tracking enemy players being an important aspect in the standalone (the ability to judge an area on whether there are any spawned or not will be fixed) there should be ample opportunity for you to cover your tracks and attempt to stay hidden. If you were to get attacked by a zombie or two while running away from an enemy you would potentially try to hide the evidence or make it look like you went a specific direction in order to keep them off your trail - you could potentially turn it into an ambush! Simple and easily enough implemented mechanic which could lead to interesting gameplay. Edit: I am aware you can 'Hide' a body but for a game like DayZ it just seems like too much of a cop-out rather than a gameplay enhancing mechanic, if it were removed it would give a more authentic experience which forces the player to deal with the consequences of killing the zombie in such an obvious area. Edit #2: Depending on how they were killed they might possibly leave a blood trail making them significantly harder to hide during the daytime.

Simple Suggestion - Drag Dead Zombies

That is true - if you killed them somewhere obvious it's your own fault - the drag/move mechanic would allow players to help cover their tracks at a cost of reduced movement speed and leaving themselves open to attack (if they are dragging with both hands). I feel it's a pretty balanced trade-off if you're trying to stay hidden since you leave yourself significantly more vulnerable while trying to fix your mistake. I didn't mean the zombie virus specifically, rotting flesh will leave all sorts of nasties around - although not as quickly for it to make any real sense in this case - it was just a random thought.. I tend to ramble. :P

Simple Suggestion - Drag Dead Zombies

A very interesting addition. Perhaps if zombies were left dead for a longer period they would possibly spread infection if you have any open wounds and come in to close conact - this would necessitate either moving the bodies into a makeshift grave or using them tactically to try and infect others (e.g. If you pin someone in a building that refuses to move and you have some sort of anti-infection HASMAT suit or gasmask w/ filters you could conduct some chemical warfare using the corpses :P

    Offline Mode + Editor Mode.

Single player I don't really like, PvP is too much of a driving force behind the game for it to be similar in a single player environment. The fear of the unknown and the constant threat from other players are what makes DayZ, DayZ - single player just wouldn't be the same - just an empty sandbox with a minor annoyance - interacting (or specifically NOT interacting) with other players is very important - the game is meant to be centered around the choices of yourself and the ones around you. I'd like a good editor though, so much could be done with the Arma II editor and a lot of brilliant work was made for YouTube, etc. - I would like to see a lot more of this in the standalone, especially with everything animated properly and looking all pretty.
  8. There is a difference between PvP and KoS. If you'd actually have played DayZ before it became widespread with this shit you'd know exactly what I was talking about - PvP was widespread but there weren't silly little kids constantly gunning down newspawns on the beach with the DMR they spawned with and facing no repercussions - it's nothing to do with being a carebear, it's everything to do with how it's totally fucking stupid and pretty much the OPPOSITE of what you should be doing in a survival sim. There should be a trade-off for EVERY action you do, PvP included, the fact of the matter is that the current deterrent ( alerting zombies and nearby players) is simply not good enough and trivial to circumvent if you've played the game for longer than 5 minutes. Nobody wants to remove KoS but there has to be a downside to whatever you do - it's first and foremost a survival game - limited ammo, tougher enemies, gear degradation and having to weigh the possible outcomes of a situation are part of that and weight the benefits of a situation and knowing when and how to engage another player are what make a good player. Yes, there will be morons that still KoS for no reason, no they shouldn't be punished specifically for KoS but there should be more of a downside to wildly shooting people without assessing a situation - be that attracting nearby zombies or destroying possible loot that was on the dead player.

Simple Suggestion - Drag Dead Zombies

Well, primarily the standalone as it would require new animations to be done if it were to look decent(And with 'Hide Body' in the mod it's rendered a little pointless) but I guess it would work well enough if they were just to ass the 'Drag' type animation that they do to unconscious players in the mod also. Using ingenuity rather than straightforward brute strength should be rewarded and setting false trails and hiding your tracks should be included in this - it would also work well together with the radios in the standalone.

Can I Run DayZ Mod? (POST HERE)

Nope. The graphics card, putting it lightly, is a pile of crap - it's on par with some of the high-end mobile cards.. from over 5 years ago. I could draw the frames by hand faster than it could render them.

Simple Suggestion - Drag Dead Zombies

Sounds pretty good. Really, allowing the players to interact with more objects will only really make the game more dynamic as far as encounters go. There are plenty of things that can be done to set traps, roadblocks and other obstacles that can be used to gain the upper hand in a player encounter without making it feel too.. artificial.

Simple Suggestion - Drag Dead Zombies

This sounds pretty interesting too. If you have a car in suitable condition on suitable terrain you could perhaps push it if it were to run out of fuel with the help of a friend to the nearest petrol station. You'd be mobile but very vulnerable, pretty good trade-off in my eyes.

Simple Suggestion - Drag Dead Zombies

If they want to leave themselves open for a few potshots while they are making a huge cock out of zombies they can be my guest :D There are always going to be morons but this will be a lot more awkward to abuse in comparison to spray-paint and leaving notes etc - I see bodies and I don't really care what pattern they're in, I just want to know who put them there :D
  14. Sounds like something I'd enjoy, unfortunately I don't have a capable machine at the moment. Good luck with your server, hope it's still alive by the time I get a decent machine - will definitely give it a shot!

Samleie <- banned for no reason

Yeah: 1) You are posting in the wrong place 2) He is you - not some random 'good guy'. It's a server ban, you'll have to wait for a response from the server administrator.

decapitation, put player head on spike

There is a difference between proper bandits and the shitbag players with bandit skin that populate 90% of the servers and KoS because they know that they'd never stand a chance in a straight firefight. Once they lose the element of surprise by opening first they are pretty much screwed and end up just scurrying off with their tails between their legs to camp Elektro or Cherno again.

    My ideal DayZ..... Opinions welcome

CoD engine is pretty terrible as it currently is, the actions would be VERY limited compared to even Arma II. I think you are mistaking the difference in the feel of the game with the engine itself - something that will easily be remedied in the standalone when zombies are a lot more in number and significantly more aggressive. They're also not scared of going indoors and have gotten over their tree phobia - killing zombies will be a lot more common because there will be no easy way to 'drop' them - the addition of the quickslots for switching between items will make the use of melee weapons a lot more prevalent.

    Low FPS - 2 x Gtx 780, 3930k 3.2 ghz

Honestly, just dick around with it a bit - it can be broken one minute and work the next. I was getting 40FPS+ FPS constantly on my old rig: i5 2500k @ 5GHz 8GB Gksill Sniper 1600MHz 1.5GB ASUS DCII GTX580 128GB Crucial M4 even though yours is significantly newer, it just takes a bit of fiddling sometims.

Try disabling your SLI and run it off the single card.
  20. Wondered where you'd fucked off to, Johnny boy.
  21. Engine limitation. Arma II wasn't built to allow DayZ style of play - it's a military simulator first and foremost, DayZ was just sort of tacked on afterwards so a lot of things had to be sort of hacked together to give good enough gameplay. The hatchet for example is technically a very short ranged gunshot since there was no real melee weapon implementation.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

I didn't say they were good at abusing people, so many whiners and assholes on Twitter though :P Don't even think Dean is on Twitter, Reddit, et al. at the moment - too many distractions!
  23. It's stuff like that that totally ruins any good server. Skins I can maybe understand as long as they are not too camouflaged, but guns? It just defeats the entire purpose of the game, like completely makes the game pointless - once you are geared the game is just a bad PvP sandbox, if you want to just shoot each other why don't you play something like Battlefield or Call of Duty which centres the entire game around the shooting aspect. Playing DayZ and skipping the whole early survival part is utterly stupid.
  24. No idea why that would make you a bad hero. "Don't you ever stand for that sort of thing. Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back."
