    Knife Takedown

As long as they don't have the same crappy problem like Battlefield where players become invincible while their mid-animation it could be alright if you get them in a very bad position (i.e. Behind them while they are lying prone). I don't like the insta-kill idea though seems pretty arcadey, perhaps heavy damage (3/4 health), bleeding and you are unconscious - this would potentially allow for a teammate to revive (But also allow the enemy to kill you if you are on your own). If you're not on full blood you're pretty much instantly dead but full health there is an extremely small chance of survival.

Call of Duty Zombies meets DayZ?

I wouldn't mind the ability to fortify a building but the zombies should drop no more than they currently do and the fortification should require manually harvesting wood (a la chopping down tree for fire) as well as nails etc for fixing them to the building. You already get a reward for killing them, THEY ARE NO LONGER TRYING TO EAT YOUR FACE - no need for ammo etc, it's meant to be an authentic survival game, everyone isn't walking around with their pockets full of ammo. If you want to play Call of Duty Zombies.. why don't you just play CoD?
  3. It's all dependent on the situation. If I am somewhere like the NEAF/NWAF I'd normally play it more safe than sorry and would more than likely shoot them if they managed to spot me and had a weapon with sufficient stopping power. If I bumped into a player and they manage to spot me but don't immediately engage I normally wouldn't shoot them, I'd keep note of where they go and would stillb e wary of them but I will more often than not let them go if they communicate. Unarmed? Yeah - I'm not killing anyone unarmed unless they are going to be a direct threat (i.e. nearby weapon spawn/looting weapons), I will more often than not tell them to back off and wait for me to leave or leave them with broken legs and fix them up before I leave. Situations like this are rarely a, b, c.
  4. That's the same for me - whether it is teaming up with a completely random player or executing a properly planned and perfectly laid out trap it's the sheer fact that anything could go wrong at any time and you just have to roll with it. KoS on occasion gets the job done but I find it quite boring since it never leaves any opportunity for anything good to develop - the only time I will really KoS is if I'm at an airfield.. people are never too friendly at the airfields.. it's just really taking the easy way out.
  5. Of course there will be a lot of KoS in the SA - the problem with the mod is that there are literally no other threats and really nothing else to do as well as no real downside to the KoS playstyle (In comparison to every other playstyle). Zombies at the moment are a minor annoyance at most and people just go into buildings/hug a tree to drop them - once they come in bigger numbers and continue to chase us at full speed they will become a lot more of a threat, potentially even a big enough threat that you don't want to risk alerting them by firing your weapon unless you really have to. People are always going to KoS to defend themselves, this isn't the problem - it's perfectly understandable if you come face-to-face with another player and it's either shoot or be shot if you are both out in the open, the real problem is the 'HURR DURR IMA KOS EVERY ti3M' who are literally playing just to shoot people. There should be consequences for firing your weapon (Currently in the mod it's alerting zombies/players) which isn't bad at all - once there is more of a deterrent to discharging your weapon for no good reason it will make a lot of people rethink. (Alerting zombies that are an actual threat, limited ammo, degradation). The SA will obviously contain people that need to stroke their e-peen but won't (read: can't) do it in a real competitive environment, there are mechanics that can make it worse for them (and make the game more fun and in-depth) but it won't stop them - the point isn't to stop them anyway so it all works out better. We get a better, more challenging game with more consequences for out actions (and thus require though). They get to play a game where they shoot people (and complain about having to scavenge and eat/drink in between).

Call of Duty Zombies meets DayZ?

The CoD zombies are okay (when it comes to numbers and aggressiveness). But the insta-fortification thing is a bit.. arcadey - it wouldn't really fit DayZ.

    Tactical Handsigns

The 'Follow Me' gesture is also universally used. As well as using the 'A-Okay' gesture. Both could be pretty useful in situations where you don't want to use voice chat.
  8. It's not a proper KoS thread unless I remind dgeesio how stupid everything he posts is, it's just the way the world works. On a lighter note, the results for the poll so far are quite interesting, I would never have guessed there were so many players that were purely friendly - a surprising number of players that will change their play-style too to adapt to the new mechanic.
  9. I love how you cry and cry when everyone else provides evidence that is the OPPOSITE of what you think (Polls, studies, etc.) But you just make shit up and apparently that passes? Just because you were dropped on your head as a child and clearly suffered some sort of debilitating injury doesn't mean everyone else completely lacks the ability to think critically about a situation.
  10. I'm pretty sure that: 'YES, even if i destroy all items, I want to killing and sniping players (I'm Bandit)' Counts as KoS, it doesn't explicitly have to say 'I am going to KoS' - it describes exactly what you will do - in that sense it's biased TOWARDS KoS by giving you votes from both KoS players and people play as a bandit but don't KoS. The poll isn't made to see what KoS only players will do, the poll is asking all players if they will KoS which (as predicted) is a very mixed bag with item degradation playing a large part in stopping 11% from KoS completely and forcing 23% of voters from KoSing straight away, forcing them to adapt their playstyle in order to not damage gear.
  11. No, what it showed is that a large percentage of those who answered the poll WILL change their behaviour due to item degradation. Yes, many will still KoS but item degradation alone has made many people either STOP KoSing or is forcing them to actually learn to play and move closer before engaging so they don't damage equipment. Don't know where you got 'even hardcore players love KOS more than fluffy bunny world' from - the amount of KoS players is pretty much identical to friendly players. It just sounds like you are constantly crying because nobody is stupid enough to hold the same shitty stance on the game as you do - NOBODY FORCES YOU TO POST IN THESE THREADS - if you don't like them, ignore them, it's clearly a big talking point within the community and shouldn't be ignored because you get your knickers in a twist every time someone disagrees with you. Now, calm down dear.

SA - make permit for host server

I wouldn't mind if there were external hosts that weren't hosted by the DayZ/BI but they would have to run a completely closed system with no admin access even giving to the operator - the only problem it would have is there would be no real 'active' moderation, this would work if there were sufficient measures in place to ensure hackers/cheaters were not able to abuse the game. Allowing administrators additional powers over normal users just leads to abuse, if it were to happen on the public hive they would just ruin it like they do now with all the unfair bans, spawning in items and using admin tools to their advantage.
  13. As I stated before, if you get a data from a sufficiently random cross-section of a population the data can be extrapolated to provide an accurate representation of the population as a whole. Extrapolating data from a cross-section of a population is a very common and cheap method of research. The answers for the poll (although slightly biased TOWARDS KoS by not differentiating between KoS for loot and KoS for gear which seems to be the question posed) are very straightforward and require no compounded data to provide an accurate representation of the outcome.
  14. Statistics must confuse you - it DOES reflect the gamers that play DayZ. If you get a random cross-section of users to provide data it can be extrapolated with very accurate results - it really doesn't matter if it's not the entire DayZ playerbase that votes - the forums/Reddit are in no way biased to either KoS players or friendly players, it's a fairly diverse group of players that support both stances. How do you think medicine is tested and declared safe if they don't test everyone in the world? How do you think they can tell what a % of the population of a country supports or dislikes? According to the poll as it currently stands there are a number of players that would outright stop KoS due to the proposed mechanic and players that would insist on scouting out the area and waiting for a sufficient window to attack from a shorter distance to minimise the potential damage towards the gear.
  15. He knows he his wrong and his opinion isn't the be all and end all that he wants it to be. Both the forums and Reddit have a very diverse player base with people on both sides of the fence - it's not exactly skewed to a single demographic that either supports or rejects KoS.
  16. If people go for that they deserve to be shot.. you'd be surprised how many people WOULD still go for that :P Just putting it next to a building as if you are trying to hide it makes people bee-line directly to it, it's pretty funny. Poll seems to be filling up quite quickly, interesting results so far.

    Helicopter Banditry

Very nice. Nothing in DayZ is more fun or rewarding than executing a nice plan like this and it paying off - one of my favourite encounters involved a few guys I was playing with setting a few tank traps in one of the smaller towns on the main road which mean they'd have to go off-road in their car and slow right down, they drove straight towards us over the grass and there was no way they could get away from it.
  18. Vehicles tend to work better, nobody can resist going for an abandoned vehicle that is badly 'hidden'.
  19. That's why he has created a poll. Rather than making up things he will have actual data to support it.
  20. I selected other. I wouldn't say I'm going to specifically go out of my way to KoS but sometimes you are just thrown into a situation where there are two armed people staring down a barrel at each other and you have to shoot. It is all dependent on whether you want the gear that the other player has, I'd be more likely to scout and try to minimise potential damage rather than just shoot at them if I wanted to loot the gear for my own use.
  21. Random car/vehicle crashes and places where it looks like other survivors and holed up for a period of time (barricaded house, camp etc.) - these could provide a low/medium 'level' of gear whereas the chopper crashes and other military spawns could remain for the military spawns. Edit: I'd like to make it more clear - I think we should also keep the chopper crash sites although make them significantly rarer - I feel they are a pretty iconic part of DayZ along with beans and the trusty hatchet.

    You NEED bandits like me

How dare I use logic and provide a scientific paper supporting my stance on human behaviour. And how dare I provide evidence that dgeesio is talking total shite. (as per usual) You are both fucking morons. (and this IS me being nice about the situation) You have both been given real arguments but both you idiots insist on putting your fingers in your ears and screaming 'lalalalala' because you were both dropped on your head as children. If you aren't going to contribute, fuck off, if not, try and string a legible sentence together and an actual argument with sufficient evidence because it's getting VERY tiring now - no idea why the moderators are too scared to put their foot down, you haven;t contributed to the topic at hand for multiple pages and before that I wouldn't even call it contribution as much as I'd call it you pulling stuff out your ass and hoping it would pass for an argument. Every single argument you just ignore and decide to 'argue' against the most trivial thing because you are totally and utterly wrong about all the crap that you constantly spout.

    You NEED bandits like me

I watched it earlier and I had to keep a screenshot for future use :D Edit: Here's a little checkmate to end the thread with from the abstract of the behavioural study 'Journal of Personality and Social Psychology': http://psycnet.apa.org/index.cfm?fa=buy.optionToBuy&id=1992-15273-001 'These studies suggest that people base decisions not only on objective attributes of choice alternatives, but also on the damage to SE (esteem/worth) that is perceived to result from a poor-decision outcome'. In normal speak - most people tend to base take into account the potential negative outcomes that could affect them while making a choice/decision. (In this case, potentially losing loot, death, alerting others. etc. etc.)

    You NEED bandits like me

How is it derogatory? You always come with the shitey 'possums' crap as if that is meant to be an insult - pretty sure being a hypocritical spanner is against the rules too. You yourself said you kill anyone you see - you even said it takes skill - here is even a nice screenshot (lol) So 1337. As usual you just skirt around the issue instead of arguing your point - it's not biased at all - I'm not refusing to accept your viewpoint, you keep saying 'Some people will continue to KoS' and I have already said multiple times that this is the case for some people but these people are a minority. KoS is NOT only a mentality thing, yes there are people that will KoS regardless but there are players that will think twice before they do shoot someone if it will negatively impact them. You seem to think that because YOU have an inability to do anything other than KoS then everyone is the same, this is just not the case - people have said time and time again that they end up killing on site because everyone else does - there have been multiple suggestions for things that WILL make people think twice (Well, anyone that isn't a moron). Limited ammo, destructible gear, tougher zombies will make a difference on whether people decide to start firing for the sake of it - people take less risks when there is a higher chance of something affecting them in a negative way. For the last time, I'll make it big letters for you and everything since you seem to keep missing it (I'll make sure to use smaller words too): NOBODY IS TRYING TO STOP KOSEVERYONE IS AWARE A SMALL NUMBER OF PEOPLE WILL KOS REGARDLESS OF ANY CHANGES.THE CHANGES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN TALKED ABOUT WILL CHANGE PLAYER INTERACTIONNo idea why every post is 'nobody will stop KoS' - nobody is even talking about stopping KoS except you.
