Quick status update for week 8 November
rossums replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Base building is something that's being looked at but the implementation will be at a much later date. At the moment for the alpha release they are just looking to get the base (Excuse the pun) game out of the door. -

So.. this thread is quite funny. I just want him to roll it out fully without a word.
-
No - there was an error while he was connecting to the test server and something went wrong. Since the 'incident' he has been roaming, looking, searching for a way to join the shovel-filled fun house that is the SA. From time to time I can still hear him in my head 'OoooOOooooOOOooo..'. Every time it chills me to the bone. Every time.

[SA] 20% chance that gun jams when firing below 50% weapon health
rossums replied to pinapple900's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
But you seem ignorant on the definition of 'ignorant'. You quite clearly implied it - but let's all chiiillllllll. On topic, I thinking the 50% is a bit high, it's something that would require a lot of use-testing to get right, it might seem good on paper but cause far too much of a problem when implemented. -
I'll post mine when I get home, sure I still have it. Mine was me aiming at someone on top of the fire house in Cherno when it was pitch black, you could just see the silhouette standing against the sky.

Once you hit a certain hardware point it's hit and miss. Such is the way of Arma II. You could have a stock 4770K and a GTX770 and get 60 FPS. Your friend could have an overclocked 4770K and a GTX780 and get 40 FPS DayZ Mod just hates everyone.

You won't get any love here for playing singleplayer, it's really not DayZ without the constant threat from players. You may think it's easier to start off on your own but you will miss a lot of valuable lessons that you would learn very early playing with other people - zombies are often a lesser threat than other players, the sooner you can learn to escape detection and find other players the sooner you will be a much better player. Sounds like you hit a hospital where you got the medical supplies in Cherno or Elektro - the loot is decent but if you're on your own it doesn't really mean much.. there aren't any other people to loot it! Once you get a hang of the zombie mechanics in the mod they are nothing more than a minor annoyance.

How long does dayz have left to live..
rossums replied to kevsta545's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well it certainly isn't separating the ladyboys quick enough, you've still not abandoned ship yet. :D <3 -
Here is a quote from Rocket yesterday that he posted on Reddit: The fact of the matter is, they are working towards a milestone rather than a date so the developers and testers don't actually have a clue when it will be ready for release. Things are still being tested now and it's made a lot of progress but there are definitely other things that will have to be done before a full release can be made.
-
I've just gave up making sense all together. I'm at work and extremely bored. Don't worry though, the messiah will deliver loads of tears tomorrow when the SA isn't released - that should keep me busy for a while.
-
Well they should all be testing instead of going outdoors and to work in stuff. A definite lack of dedication - if they are meant to be testing they should just test all the time SO WE CAN GET THE STANDALONE FASTER. So silly.
-
I love how so many people think it will be released tomorrow. Pretty funny.
-
Server isn't always up - it's only put up when they require an aspect to be tested. Remember too, it IS the weekend, the developers do have a life outside of their workplace too - they can't always be active!
-
Ahh right, that's just those running the game. Server has been down all day - was getting very confused as to where you were seeing them. Here is a proper list of players on the Steam Test Server: http://www.game-monitor.com/dayz_GameServer/37.220.18.218:27016/DayZ_Steam_Testing_Server-.html

Where on earth are you getting 2 players in the test from?
-
Free to Play means significantly more morons and children that play the game and eventually more unfair advantages given to those that spend money. It would never work in a game like DayZ where everything is down to skill and luck - adding advantages for those that pay would just ruin the game.
-
I'm pretty sure they are given the go ahead but the mod team is allowed to go their own direction with the mod, they have been going their own direction for a while now. The standalone release is going to follow the original concept for DayZ and it's shaping up to be pretty awesome already - it can only get better.
-
Rocket has had no hand in the development of the Mod for around a year now - the mod is handled by a seperate team of volunteer developers that are fans of the game like yourself. Trust me when I say that the zombies in the standalone are a much bigger threat. Even the additional numbers make it a significant threat - it's went from around 50 zombies in Elektro with a few people to over 300 when the server loads. At the moment for the mod, you are right, they aren't a threat.. a minor annoyance at best - the standalone is a while different beast and will go with Rockets original vision of a hard and gritty DayZ.

I don't mind myself, I'm normally on TS when I play with others on the server or friends. I meant more in the way that even if it is restricted some players will undoubtedly circumnavigate the prevention method and continue to do so. If people are gaining an advantage over others with voice-comms they will do it, even if it is against the 'spirit' of the game (Being that communication vs radio, direct chat eg. is meant to play a part). There really is nothing you can do to prevent it and trying to prevent it is just wasting time and money.

whats the worst thing to happen to you in dayz
rossums replied to shadowolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
THE WASTED JOURNEY I was tired. So damn tired. I have no idea how I had been walking, my legs were aching from the journey, my entire body shaking from the cold - I had to get some food and water and I had to get it now. My journey took me from the dangerous shores by Elektro, teeming with survivors and murderers and led me to what I thought was going to be my haven, led me to the airfield in the north-east of Chernarus. After traversing rocks, hills and forests I finally made it to my destination. FINALLY. As soon as I arrived I saw a commotion at the airfield, I thought to myself 'This isn't right..'. I had heard that the airfield had long been abandoned by the military, they had all retreated to the easily defensible airfield to the west. I knew this couldn't be good so I decided to investigate further. Slowly closer I moved until I located a rock from which I could view the surrounding area with relative easy and safety. I clambered upon the solid behemoth and I suddenly felt a pain worse than anything I had ever felt. My shinbone was protruding from my leg, I couldn't believe it. I fell to the ground in a crumpled mess after hearing the loud 'CRACK' of my legs giving way from under me. I lay there in my own blood until everything became dark. YOU ARE DEAD. Bastard. -
I don't see why not. It's not really 'AI' as such, there are already places on the map where there are bodies in pits or lined up preparing to be destroyed. It will be a nice way to potentially provide some military loot while still making it hard enough to obtain - I do think it should be limited to lower-end military equipment though - leave the very rare items (NVGs, Snipers, etc.) for the difficult areas such as the airfields and the heli crash sites.
-
It's not technically possible to prevent players from using third-party software. No matter what, other players will do whatever they can to get an advantage - the includes using a second device purely to handle chat if they had to. Some people just can't play on an even playing field.

This game feels too hard, something wrong on my server?
rossums replied to xoiio's topic in New Player Discussion
The game is meant to be hard. If you don't like how hard you're finding it not, I recommend that you don't waste money on the standalone release. If you're the kind of player that gets bored after 10 minutes of scavenging and has to spawn in weapons, it's really not going to be for you. Call of Duty might be more up your alley. You start with weapons and everything takes next to no shots to be killed.
