It is a COMPLETELY different project and not even comparable in scale. If DayZ was released as they planned it would be doing more than fine, the problem was they didn't want to just repackage the mod - the 'Standalone' was literally going to be what the mod is now, which is fine by all accounts. Get your head out your ass rather than just making stuff up. What is that even meant to mean..?
-
It is 'quite widely known' that that was a complete different project. They were initially going to package Arma II and DayZ Mod into the one bundle and sell that as DayZ - they then announced they were scrapping that and doing the whole thing over.
-
You are correct, it will be in alpha pass for a long, long time. Just because other studios are abusing the terms doesn't mean you should just accept the misuse. Most Greenlight and Kickstarter games are and will be in alpha phase for a long time, a lot of them are far from completed - Kickstarter especially.
-
Alpha and Beta designations in the software development/release life cycles have pretty concrete definitions, whether other developers misuse the term or not. Alpha consists of feature-incomplete builds before moving over to beta designation. Beta is normally feature-complete but still contains optimisation and bug problems that have to be worked out before it moves on to RC then release. Players need to understand that they are not paying to play the standalone yet, they are paying for early access to the TESTING phase and the standalone when it is complete.

Yeah, not too knowledgable about helicopters, I just used the huey as an example since it was already implemented in the mod.
-
It's not a beta though, it's not even an alpha yet. A beta has a long, long way to go - probably a year or so at least. The problem will be exactly what you are displaying, people have absolutely NO idea what an alpha or beta is, they just expect to play a game.
-
I disagree, I have to say that the huey has a perfect place in the game.. BUT.. If it is to be found in the 'wild' in can't start with any guns, adding a LMG placement would require the crafting system and the ammunition must be provided too - this would make it a good 'end-game' type of vehicle while keeping it very rare and hard to obtain with working weaponry.

how did people get SA invites for pre-alpha?

I'm definitely going to have to agree. To get an invite you had to be awesome. -
You forgot to mention that the standalone has almost been released 5 times but Mike breaks it every time. Last time he broke it so hard the server burst into flames. Damn Mike.

The Standalone will make use of VAC.

Zombie pathfinding is currently still being worked on, the pathfinding in the video is not the complete version that it will be using. The problem that you saw in the video was that the actual actions and the animations were not matching up, this is because it keeps being changed and it takes far too long to redo the animations every single time. I can assure you that I've had a lot more trouble with zombies in the SA compared to the mod, other testers will agree - obviously we're not allowed to go in to details but the devs have made a big improvement in almost every regard compared to the mod.
-
That was the original plan and why everyone expected in in Dec 2012. They were going to originally pack Arma II and DayZ in to the one unified game and ship it, early in December though the devs decided that it really wasn't what they wanted and decided instead to completely redo the entire game - which is where we are now. It is no small task they are undertaking and compared to some other studios they have a very small amount of developers working on the project - they are making tremendous progress though.

You don't know that! It's not as if you've played it yourself or anything.. stop making assumptions! I hope it will be good though - SS13 is pretty cool too. -
Oh, I'm well aware he's a moron - luckily, I speak moron so I was just helping Mazzar :D You can tell by the way he/she types, Russian/Ukrainian (Hell, most eastern-European) speakers tend to miss articles and don't use prepositions correctly - they are not consistent in the slightest with the mistakes they make.
-
I think he means Crimea, an autonomous Republic within Ukraine. He just comes across a bit like a monkey pounding a keyboard.
-
Everything you complain about has literally been confirmed for months. Yes the graphics are better, no it's not harder to run, yes the zombies run - they also run in the mod. As the above poster said, they are infected humans - not reanimated dead.
-
My thoughts? You've not being paying attention to anything up to this point.
-
It is taken down when receiving updates and fixes.
-
The testing is pretty much ongoing - the only difference is that the server is obviously down more often at this time since this is when the developers can properly work on it. Most of the bigger tests do tend to be later though - that's mainly because it's prime time for Europe where a lot of the testers (and developers) are based but also provides a decent connection to those based in America and the Aussies too.
-
You are aware that testers come from all over the world, right? It might be early for you but not everyone else.
-
Nah those are already sorted. Rocket just has to tweak the speed boost and invulnerability power-ups a little.
-
It was the test server because he is testing stuff. Imagine that.
-
It depends. Obviously we can't go into specifics but most of the time we are just 'meat in the room' as Rocket puts it to put some load on the server - we aren't specifically ordered to check specific things so most of the time it's just try and play it normally and document and report any bugs we find so the developers can get them sorted.
