IF this was an actual game...

-1 vote for you taking this retail, Rocket. You love ArmA, and I can only assume you also love it's community. Don't be a sell-out please. There's so many new players now thanks to your mod, and that is a brillant accomplishment. I imagine you're quite the golden boy around BIS at the moment. Maybe a pay rise is coming your way? Either way, DayZ needs ARMA2, and ARMA2 needs DayZ (although it can survive without it). Many players are diving to kiss your feet, and it seems most of them are new players, who really didn't know almost everything that's in your mod has been in ArmA for quite a long time, in various mods and missions. All the "Life" mods had unique items, character development, resource mining and building, persistant characters, etc. Saving to a database (i.e Jay2Lib) isn't new either. The zombie thing has been done a half dozen times too even way back in OFP. Many of these other mods have more features and development time than DayZ. New guys, do your research. Rocket, please don't get blinded by this wave of adoring fans. I'm not sure why this mod has gone viral so quickly, or appealed to such a wide audience. I often saw the "Life" mods go through similar phases with high demand, but never anything close to this. The ArmAverse has been around for over a decade now. Hundreds of servers have been provided and 99% of them have been FREE. Even clan-run servers very rarely demand payment to be in their clan. Even now, 40+ servers are being provided and paid for by players, not Rocket. This isn't like EA, that spends millions of dollars on game development, and then sells the game to make back their money (and a profit), while still providing free servers for players to use. The ArmA community has stepped up to provide these servers, support the mod, and new players. Please remember all this in 6 months, as DayZ development is still going strong, and ArmA3 is hitting the shelves. For a long time, ArmA community has been flooded with more servers than we needed. The server to online player ratio was around 1:3 I think. Whatever it was, there was always more servers than we ever needed. DayZ popularity has just hit us all by surprise, but the community has still responded pretty quickly in providing servers, despite the very demanding requirements of DevTeam (full trust and access to our servers). We (The ArmA community) can cope with future demand I believe for DayZ. Just don't sell out please!

    Oceanic Server Discussion

Like to say a big thank you on behalf of AusArmA to everyone who's donated so far, including overseas players who will not even be using our server. Great community spirit. In 3 days we've already raised half of next month's costs. Also thanks to rocket and Joel for helping with the setup and updates. We intended to only run 50 slots, however we could tell demand was far exceeding this as there was long wait times for people to get back in if they accidentally disconnected. 50 slots was resulting in low FPS after an hour, so we had to reduce slots for a while (hopefully disabling H/T will fix it), and ran 2 servers, and then 3, for a total of 100 slots. Even this was not enough to cater for demand during the weekend! These were all local ANZ players. NZ, AUS and AU servers also went up sporadically during the weekend. If you are running these servers, can we please coordinate when we run extra servers to meet player demand while also reducing our own bandwidth when they're not necessary?

    Oceanic Server Discussion

We're still testing server performance and tweaking things. ATM, we have 45 slot server, and another 25 slot server. NZ server is also up atm with 25 slots. All slots of course are full within seconds of a server going up, LOL. This is with 100% ANZ players too. That's an awesome amount of demand for our region. Only problem is no vehicles are spawning on ANZ servers :(

Textures messup takes up most of screen

I changed my anti-aliasing settings in-game, and fixes the glitch. If it comes back, I change it again.

    DayZ Update 1.5.4

The graphic glitch for wire and tank trap metal is really affecting gameplay. Can you fix this for 1.5.5, even if it just means removing the items from spawning till they're fixed.

    Oceanic Server Discussion

Sure. Server is up, with A2CO installed and email went to DayZ about an hour and a half ago. Awaiting Rocket to set up the DayZ stuff. It should be up sometime today as he should still be asleep for a few hours.

    [GUIDE] Gear/Inventory

When trading weapons, don't double-click the gun on ground to auto-swap it for whatever you have (you end up losing the original weapon). First drop your gun and pick up the other. You can do this all while looking at the gun on ground

    Website Improvements

Can we please get an alternative theme for mobile devices? I'm using Samsung Galaxy S2 and it is impossible to read anything on the forums because of the red on black. Even the smallest amount of glare, and full screen brightness makes no difference. Downloads section. Please change the view to include last modified date. This helps when you see there is a new version required, but not sure if the anims, SFX or weapons files have also been updated. Also, the logo, although great, is a bit bit. Could be smaller.

    Report Materials here!

I like people that start "information" threads with no information, and because they're too lazy to do some searching they start a thread asking for other people to contribute. All parts are found in garages, sheds, warehouses and factories. Check out this link to get an idea, and maybe do some more reading and searching first. http://picacid.com/arma2/loot_en.html Scrap Metal: Repairs hulls of car/chopper/boat to 100% Jerry Cans: Fills up 20 litres of petrol per can. Refilling them is currently bugged at least up to 2.5.3 Unless you're an idiot, the rest should be obvious. Tires repair tires, engine parts repair engine, etc.

Draw distance only 500m after 1.5.3?

I enjoy the limited view distance. Walking around in daylight with large view distance is too easy to spot cars, other players, and areas to explore/avoid. Makes the map feel smaller too. These are all good things IMHO. Large view distances also let bandits camp and use sniper rifles to easily kill other survivors. Maybe now they have to get their hands dirty and use some SKILL to engage other players, and survive, instead of sitting at a comfortable distance hidden away, just sniping. Not a fan of the rain though, simply because the animation looks horrible no matter how high you turn up your graphic settings.
  13. Yes, but you WANT to be a bandit, because it offers you advantages, and a preferred look. So work for it! The bandit model was introduced to identify players who were going around and murdering each other (frequently). Someone who only does it every 5 or so hours is not a bandit. If they did that, people would argue they killed a survivor in self-defence, and now have to wait 5 hours to return to normal. Your argument seems the weakest though, you want to be a bandit, without being a bandit. Bandit model is most useful along the coastal areas. If you're around there, and a bandit, you are shoot on sight. If you're deeper in Chernarus, bandit or not you are not necessarily shoot-on-sight. You're a slightly more experienced player to have gone north, and many of them are bandits by accident, or just self-defence.

Standardize Servers + Lock First-Person View

You can remove headbob in your Gameplay settings of ArmA. Just go to the Main Menu. 1st person only, would make finding cars and choppers just not worth it. There's too much scattered trash and obstacles, that having no 3rd person would make these death-traps. 1st person only on infantry, 3rd allowed on vehicles... that could work (like it does with PR). Regular is best difficulty IMHO to go with, as you can customise it anyway you want. Veteran and Expert have some settings you can't change. People just generally assume Regular is 'noob mode' but it depends if server admins have bothered to customise it (like they do on UO).

    Should we scrap bandit models?

I'm a bandit, proud of it. I've only murdered on American servers though, which few Aussies or Kiwi's would hold against me (most would probably buy me a beer). I mean that's what most of them do when they're on our servers. Doesn't seem fair when I go play on a local server, I'm still branded a homicidal bandit.

    Interesting new element to insert:Fatigue

Yes, ACE type fatigue would really be great. Would also encourage teamwork if people have to share heavy items between each other so they don't get worn out running short distances. 3 players can car a tyre each and run, but 1 person carrying 3 tyres (which I've done several times) is hardly realistic. Energy bars is good idea too. Currently we can just run for miles with a horde of zombies after us, till we reach some docks, or a barn to slow them down and lose them, etc.
  17. LOL at you. You WANT to be a bandit, but are upset that killing one player every 2 hours is too much for you? Is there a bandit training camp you can go to for some practise? I started on -55000 last night. I played for about 5 hours, only killing 1 bandit and I finished with about -47000. So I don't think it decreases too fast. I mean if you only kill 1 player every 2-3 hours you're hardly deserving of being a bandit.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

Why do people say things like "that will never make it in this mod"? AFAIK, only rocket is doing the coding for this mod. I expect he'll grow tired of this one day, and open it up to the community to continue development, and branch of it's own versions. Much like the "Life" mods. I mean, for someone who claims he doesn't want to impose rules and restrictions on the players and the mod, it wouldn't make much sense to then say we HAVE to play the mod the way he wants us to, right? I've seen several post stating that players shouldn't be forced out of PvPing, yet the lack of rules and anti-PvP features currently forces many players out of playing cooperatively. So, how can you argue that you can't run the mod on a server with admin rule stating that senseless killing will get you kicked/banned? How can you say no-one else will ever add anti-PvP measures to the mod? 99% of the population is NPC's (Zombies). We just need a few survivor NPC's who don't want to roam the countryside looting and killing Zombies. Where's the woman and old ladies who want to stay in a safe-zone, purifying water, mending clothes and cooking dinner? Hopefully we'll see these in a future release, and doing missions for the area will earn you reputation, while killing other players will make you wanted and the NPC guards will shoot you on sight. It's like The Walking Dead show. We're the Rick, Shane and Dale's of the survivors? Where's the Lorrie and Carol of the survivors that we need to protect, or rescue to bring back to the group? Those should be the NPC's that allow us to setup base camps, that act as safe-havens for those with positive reputation. People can still PvP if they want, but that means nowhere will be safe for them, while at least survivors have a chance of finding somewhere safer. Eventually if enough people do this, good will win over evil as the bandits will have little place to hide.

    [GUIDE] Gear/Inventory

LOL. You use the name 'thatniceguy' as obviously a joke? ArmA has always had a steep learning curve, and DayZ should be highly commended for bringing in so many new players (hell, look at the top selling games on Steam the past 2 weeks!). This tutorial is brilliant and well illustrated, and needed to help out all the newbies. If you don't want them all going over to Diablo3 in a few weeks, you need to get them past the steep learning curve so they can really enjoy ArmA and stick around. There's a few pointers you really need to include, as they are basically mistakes to not include them. General rule of thumb for me. If I want to transfer items between backpack and gear, I look at empty spot on the ground. If I want to trade anything between the ground and my gear or backpack, I look at items on the ground (this includes dropping items). You advised the opposite. I strongly disagree that you should NEVER look at empty spot on ground if you want to drop something. It won't always drop where you expect, and often gets clipped in some area that it's hard to point at later to pick back up. So what you do when dropping things (like Tires), is look for some tins, and then open your gear when you see the Gear icon over the tins. Then anything you drop will be grouped with the tins, making it easier to pick up later. Otherwise you end up with several 'groups' of Gear all within 1m of each other, and are forever walking around trying to point at a specific item while the others get in the way. Also, if you look at items on the ground, open Gear, and then Open Backpack, you get a graphical layout of your Backpack, which is much easier to use.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

Was a ban necessary for Turkey? Okay some of his language went too far, but seems you banned him simply because he's saying things you don't want to hear. You need more people analysing and critiquing the mod, not more suck ups living in ignorant bliss saying "we wuv yoo wocket, this is best mod ever, it's perfect". It's still Alpha, and IMHO has a long way to go. Aside from an ego boost, what do the fanboys really give back to the Alpha devs? Check US1 log files if you can. For every 2 people I killed last night, one of them would rage quit after they died, including some I didn't technically kill because I ran them over. Now I'm not just DM'ing because I have about 450 zombie kills currently too (and had a working car). Still, I do not condone my behaviour, and think it's ruining the game for everyone I encounter for my own (slight) amusement. However I'm forced to play like this currently, because I can't sit back and enjoy some teamwork, exploring, and zombie horde slaughter.... as it just draws in other players who will kill me for no real reason. All you naive players need to stop debating that this mod needs PvP. This thread is NOT about removing PvP. As if the title isn't clear enough, almost every person opposed to the player murdering has stated they want to keep PvP but reduce the senseless murders.

    How do vehicle saves work?

I found a car near Cherno yesterday on US1, missing 4 tires. Grabbed lots of gear and stashed it in the car's gear, including 3 tires. Server crashed when I was looking for the 4th tire. Returned after the crash and all inventory was lost from the car (I'd gotten in driver and back seat multiple times, even started engine a few times). At least the car was still there, and I managed to find 4 tires pretty quickly in Cherno.

Direct Communication not working at all...

I had these issues 2 nights ago with 2 players. 1 could hear me in Direct Chat and I could hear him, the 3rd guy couldn't hear either of us, and we couldn't hear him. If we are all potential enemies, why do we need to be in the same group? Why can our PlayerID not be our GroupID?

    UH-1H tail roter repair

I would assume the Main Rotar Assembly you sometimes find in Warehouses and Large Garages. Scrap metal - Hull. Engine Parts - Engine Tires - Tires Jerry can - 20litres of fuel each Fuel Parts - Fuel Tank Health Windscreens - Windscreens. Not sure they're necessary. Never used.

    Should we scrap bandit models?

Yes, remove them as they are not effective at doing what they were supposed to. If you're going to add a feature, please do it properly. +1 unique clothing. Also customisable during the game with extra loot items. Stab vests - less vulnerable to zombie attacks Body Armour - less vulnerable to gunshots. Helmets - Headshot proof if hit in helmet, less chance of being zombie KO'd. Armband colours - what group/clan you're in. Would it really be hard to recolour some clothing on a few models, and add them into the addon pack?

    The PvP Discussion Thread

I just deathmatched last night and hunted noobs from Cherno to Elektro (on US1), especially those who were typing their locations on Side Chat. Killed 12 players, most with a Lee Enfield, and saw 5 players leave shortly after I killed them. Great way to play a game isn't it? When can I get some game-time with the Devs so I can show them how fun it is to be on the receiving end of someone with nothing to lose who just wants to ruin everyone else's fun? I could have died at any time and honestly it wouldn't have phased me. I wasn't playing seriously, and had little interaction with other players (except for gunning them down). It was boring, and made me feel cheap and dirty the whole time, but I was on a foreign server and couldn't be bothered wasting time determining who I could trust when I would rarely see the same people ever again. I just can't be bothered trying to team up and enjoy the mod most days when I know there's several players out there just hunting other players, and almost everyone else will shoot you 50% of the time anyway rather than risk determining if you're friendly. Go on any server and pay attention to chat text. You'll see there's a lot of new players trying to learn the game as well as the mod, and want to play cooperatively. They don't appreciate people DM'ing them for no reason, and killing them in cold blood. Engage them in a firefight and they might not be so annoyed if they lose and get killed, but the instant shot in the back from the shadows.... that really irks people, and makes them rage quit. We need more bandits like RL-Warrior, who enjoy nothing more than ruining other people's games. Clone a few hundred of them so the Devs hate their own mod enough to bother fixing it. At the rate the bandits are breeding, and paranoia is spreading, it won't be long anyway. Why all this bother having persistant servers, when the average life of 4hours on this website is a joke? With all the dead bodies on the beaches, that stat must be including players who are disconnected, because very few players stay alive for 8 hours in a game. So it's gone up from 2 hours to 4 hours. I don't think players are living longer, but spending less time in the game.
