I don't know what's going on today, but I've joined several servers throughout the day and evening, and they're all set to night time. DayZ Commander says it should be daytime, and the in-game watch agrees, but no matter what they're all set to night time. To test it out I've been on the same server today at both 01:00 and 13:00(server time), just to make sure I wasn't accidentally 12 hours out and it's been night time both times. My DayZ and ArmA versions are both correct, and the zombies also think it's night time as they can't see me in the gloom. Is anyone else getting this?

Well, after a few days of surviving on basic rations and limited weaponry, I decided to wander over to balota to see what these airstrips are all about. Being really new it was my first ever trip and I was looking forward to some decent weapons. Unfortunately there was absolutely nothing useful apart from an M9 with one clip, but in the process I did get knocked out by a zombie and lost all but the last dregs of my blood whilst unconscious. Soooooo Anyone in the area that can help me out? I have a blood bag, but I'm afraid of needles and can't give it to myself :oD

Also, I wasted a lot of food by eating when my status was orange rather than flashing red. Now I wait, since a single can will put you right back up to green again, and to my knowledge there's no downsides to waiting for the flashing.

Prepare for some late nights/early mornings as you convince yourself that...... "Yeah, I have time to nip into the fire station". Then realising that 2 hours have passed as you looted every building in Cherno just so that you did t miss anything you might need :oD -
Try DayZ commander instead. It has recent servers and favourite servers. You can download it from the DayZ mod website.

If you aren't really looking for a team, but someone to buddy up with, I've been playing alone for the past week, and I'd also like to try some teamwork. I'm in the UK, 33, I have either teamspeak or skype and a very good mic. I play after 9:00 till pretty late most nights. PM me if you're interested. John

Well, I dun gone and got myself in bother!!!!!!

Those deer stands are where I ran into trouble. They're also where I found the M9. There were 2 zombies permanently under each deer hut, so the dilemma was, do I open fire and hope I can reload fast enough to kill all of them with a makarov, or do I try and sneak up the ladder and shoot them whilst I'm up there. I chose the latter............. Which then turned into the former :oD -

Thanks for your help bud. You saved my life :oD Have some beans! -
Well, my PC is by no means a monster, but it'll run Battlefield 3 with a mix of High and Ultra settings at 60 fps no problem. If I set everything to Very High on DayZ I get around 30fps! I don't think it's the PC that's the issue, more the ArmA II engine's ability to make use of it properly. But DayZ isn't really about awesome graphics. Even at Very High settings I don't think it's that impressive. Set everything to low and enjoy the experience :D

Well, I wasn't expecting awesome gear, just something a bit better than an M9. I don't think I fancy a trip up north just yet. I've only played the game 4 times so I'm pretty sure I'd last about 5 minutes in bandit country. But someday, perhaps when I have a bit of backup, I'll wander off into the hills. -
You don't need to. They're just other maps. If all you want is the bog standard map you'll be fine.

Another request for partner/group....
jbec-john replied to Upchuck's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll send you a friend request on Skype. I'm in the UK, and I play after 9pm mostly. I'm really new to the game, so it would be great to have some arse coverage!! -
After watching a load of videos where the player talks to nearby players without team speak/Skype etc, I was wondering how its done. I notice Frankie seems to have a steam logo visible whenever he speaks. Does steam have to be running? I'm sure I downloaded the steam version from the Bohemia website, but it launches just fine without steam. I have however added it to steam so I could launch it through that. Also, what button do you press, and is there any in-game mic setup required? So far I haven't needed it, but I'm sure the day will come when I do, and I don't fancy standing around whilst I google it on the fly :D

Roger that. Thanks.

Ok, so it's caps lock on (Not held down?), and make sure it's set to direct chat. Then turn caps lock off when I'm done. Excellent. Cheers guys.

New survivor looking for fellow gentle(wo)men to survive with

What time do you play bud? I'm also new to the game. I play from about 9pm GMT onwards. I'm in the UK. So far I've stuck to a GMT-6 server to try and familiarise myself with the map in daylight. I have a mic, so if you fancy meeting up give me a shout when you get a headset. -
Ahh, I was going to ask about this. I'd noticed on mine the outer edges are blurry. I'd never seen it in a youtube video so I thought I had a fault. Seems not.

What's the correct method to exiting the game? I've played a few times over the last couple of nights, but every time I join a server I'm back at the coast as a new character. I'm not sure whether it's something I'm doing wrong when joining, or when I'm leaving, but I'm definitely doing something catastrophically bad. Currently I've been leaving by hitting Esc>abort, which takes me to a debriefing page. It lists deaths/kills etc. and has 2 options. "I'm Ready" and "Disconnect" Since "I'm Ready" doesn't seem to do anything I hit "Disconnect" which takes me to Multiplayer Setup. My options are "Disconnect" or "Ok" I hit "Disconnect" which takes me to the in-game main menu where I press "Exit" To Join I double click on the server in DayZ Commander which takes me to the "Multiplayer Setup" page. I click "OK" and after a brief loading page I'm in, but always a new character back on the coast. Where am I going wrong? Any help much appreciated

:oD Cheers man. I'll just run next time I think!!!!

OK, I just tried 2 different servers and they seemed to work properly. My location and gear were saved. I must have just been unlucky with my server selection. Cheers for the help though. I was convinced I was doing something wrong when logging off. I actually lasted a whole 30 minutes then too. I had food, water, a hatchet, matches, basic medical supplies, and various bits of ammo. I thought I was set........ Then a pair of zombies ran at me. Swing and a miss on my part with the hatchet. I was knocked unconscious and eaten before I came round :oD

I've had that box ticked from the very start, so every server I've joined SHOULD have been official, even the one that said "Private Hive" in the title. Maybe I've just been unlucky.
-
If I'm honest, I have no idea. The last 4 times I was on the same server just to make sure that wasn't an issue. The first server I joined I later saw was listed as "Private Hive" which I figured was bad, so I avoided that after the first game. Is there a way to tell which are the correct servers?

I'll give that a go and see how I get on. I could understand a glitch once every now and then, but over the last 2 evenings I've exited and re-entered around 7 times, and each time I have to start from scratch. Thanks for the quick reply.
