    Battle Royale?

Jesus! What is it with this forum and you DayZ purists?! The OP asks a perfectly reasonable question, and straight away you're jumping down his throat. You know very well they aren't going to take away your precious vanilla experience if they do introduce other versions of the game, so why do you get so bent out of shape when such things are mentioned? You'll still be able to sneak around the outskirts of the map, make a fire, sing kumbaya, and whinge about the fact that you actually found a can of food this week so the game clearly isn't hard enough! And the ArmA III argument isn't valid. That game is slow, clunky, and over complicated. It has a completely different feel which I, and many others I play with really don't like. DayZ just feels right. To the OP.... I'm pretty sure there will eventually be something along the lines of Battle Royale if/once mod's are allowed, but probably not for some time yet. Other game modes were extremely popular during the days of the original mod. Some even had double the servers that vanilla had, so providing modding is available at a later date then I see no reason why it wouldn't happen.

Getting stuffed faster than I can drink.

I recently got sick from either eating uncooked meat, or drinking from a pond (I'd recently done both). I simply kept on drinking until I vomited. That seems to cure any sickness straight away.

    so much for the struggle

Yes it's alpha. The time to test and give feedback. Well feedback is what we're giving. Grinding away at menial tasks just to stay alive is boring as hell. Searching around building after building only to find chemlights and books is also a real chore. I don't mind weapons and ammo being NW only Items, but give fresh spawns a chance of at least finding some survival gear and get energised/hydrated without having to sit at an apple tree for 30 minutes each life.

    so much for the struggle

this is the problem with this forum. The people who want to search around for hours on end only to find scraps whine about the level of loot. The dev's see this and wrongly assume it's what players want. They then turn the game into a boring grindfest. Most of the players then leave because all the fun has been sucked out of the game, and the original minority of whiners come out with the usual plethora of insults about those who have left. I just hope the dev's either fix the issue, or hurry up and finish the game so people can get modding.

And the last time I checked 25k down to 9K is more than half gone.

You could always just check out this graph that shows numbers have gone from 19k-25k players down to 9k-3k players since the 0.55 patch. Seems like a majority to me! http://steamcharts.com/app/221100

    Most wanted feature?

If there is a PVP orientated mod that draws more players then it simply means that the standard version got it wrong. I've often thought that The die hard PVE/PVZ fan base simply make more noise than the vast majority of players who actually want a larger PVP aspect. Look at what happened to vanilla when mods like Epoch and overwatch came out. People voted with their virtual feet. With the recent direction DayZ had taken a sure as hell hope they do allow mods in the future.

    Most wanted feature?

I'm with you Killawife. Food, especially in spawn towns would be a nice feature. And perhaps later in the game a hints system for new players that can be toggled off for the rest of us. I fear that a new player entering the game would quickly loose interest when they have no idea that you can actually get food and water from things like trees, bushes and animals.

.55 loot, I'll just leave it at this.

For me the whole beauty of DayZ was that you could play the game YOU wanted to play. But standalone is heading in the same direction the mod went. Eventually they patched all the fun out of that game and turned it into a PVE biased grind fest. The current method of survival seems to be: Spawn. Search for stone and sharpen it. Search for bushes/trees. search for berries/apples. Fight off zombies. Bandage. search for berries/apples. Fight off zombies. Bandage. search for berries/apples. Fight off zombies. Bandage. Head as far inland as you can to actually find some useful loot Spend the next 5-10 evenings searching every building/vehicle you can find to get to a level of geared that means you could actually go and have some fun. Have a glorious firefight that essentially will lead to nothing as any decent firefight will last longer than the dead bodies you just created take to de-spawn. Get one hit killed by the zombie that although running for the last 50 metres made absolutely no sound as if it were gagged and floating on a light fluffy cloud of kitten fur and angel slippers. Repeat until you finally decide to give ArmA III Wasteland that one last try to see if it's now less slow and clunky Realise that ArmA III is still slow and clunky.

where is everyone in the game?

I've played every night for a week now on the fullest servers I could find. So far I've met 1 person at Svetlo, 1 person at Balota, 1 person at NWAF, and about 100 spread evenly between Berezino and NEAF. With the spawns and loot tables the way they are at the moment, everyone is crammed into such a small area with no real reason to leave it. If you loot thoroughly you can find everything there is to find within about 4k of your spawn point, which currently is always in the NE of the map. And if you die, there's a very good chance that you're only minutes , if not seconds away from your corpse giving people further incentive to go back for revenge. The best fix I can think of is to add more spawn points all over the map. Yes, you'll find people getting brilliant spawn points right next to the NWAF or Balota, but at least it'll give those areas a chance for some encounters.
  11. Perhaps this should go in troubleshooting, but the game is running fine, so hopefully this will be ok. Basically, on the mod I have separate mouse buttosn set up for zoom look rather than the default setting of holding the second mouse button. I'd love to set standalone to work the same way, but I can't find the key binding in the options to remove it. I have a mouse button set to Num- and one to Num+ which is working as I'd like it to, I just need to remove the zoom function from mouse button 2, but it doesn't seem to be in the "View" section. Any ideas? Thanks in advance John

DayZ keeps crashing when I try to join a server?

The issue for me was a bad battleye update. They made some revisions and it's worked ever since. Try deleting your battleye files. Don't worry, they reinstall when you join a server. There's plenty of info on how to do it online. Only other thing I can suggest is to try some launch parameters. I have mine set to launch in windows xp mode, and a maximum memory setting. Again there's loads of info on your options with launch parameters and how to use them.

    arma 2 has stopped responding

It seems to be affecting anything using an arma engine. Standalone, mod, even arma 3. I've found multiple threads on the various forums describing the same issue. And all started over the last few days. Maybe it's a battleye thing.
