  1. Had the idea of making tracer rounds an item instead of a setting, the thought being that they could be slightly more common for hunting/sniper rifles due to use in training and sport shooting, meaning if you only had tracers then you have to be sure your shot being seen won't matter. Implemented as a sort of a PvP balance. Thoughts?

SA - Tracer rounds as an item

I don't know about you, but I've been tagged with more than one 12.7mm round at well over 1km away. As far as your personal choice of ammo goes, this comes with the assumption that you would have regular rounds to use, as well as the assumption that everyone plays the game the same as you. Furthermore, by your logic of ignoring tracers, would it not make sense in the game world for them to be slightly more present, as other survivors would come to a similar conclusion? (I'd rather have a can of chili, but seeing as how everything's been looted already, I'll likely have to settle for some Vienna sausages).

SA - Tracer rounds as an item

Considering that the entire idea was meant to be an annoyance to snipers, I'll call this positive feedback. Muzzle flash and noise only matter if the shot was fired within audible range directly in your field of view.

    Arma2 + DayZ Historical Lore 1.2

One of the main aspects of the game is the fact that there is no story or narrative. I'm a big fan of game lore myself, but I don't feel this title is the place for it. Good post, though.
  5. It would be a bad idea to swing a gun around like a club IRL. Maybe a rifle-butt/pistol-whip button. Also, getting hit with a rifle would totally fucking kill you.

    Best DayZ snipe ever? maybe.

I once killed a player that was on top of a mountain with a tin can from the base of the mountain. Sorry for no pictures or video. It's true though!
  7. Until you reach the tree line and get Bono'd.

Does sidechat ruin anyone elses game?

Perhaps the option would be to to give side chat it's own window, or at least be able to toggle between individual chat channels. I'm a fan of side chat because I'm aware that I'm playing a game. I enjoy the opportunities that can arise from discussions/whining/etc. If I want to feel immersed then I just pretend it isn't there, because I'm a human being with low-moderate willpower and focus.

Today i met the stupidest squad

Scared, defenseless survivors doing whatever comes to mind to lay down cover fire and run from snipers that are over a mile away? Yeah, totally stupid. You sure showed them.

what do you make of this betrayal?

From the way you type, you probably deserved it. Find new friends.
  11. A crap mouse costs $20. A decent one no more than $60. Invest! Good story, though.

    4GB to 6GB of RAM

How are your sticks configured? I imagine you have 4GB dual channel? Adding one 2GB stick would remove the dual channel capabilities, and you'd be better off with just the 4GB at that point. You can get 16GB (4x4GB) Patriot DDR3 1333hz for less than US$100. Whatever you do, make sure you have matching sticks on matching channels.

    Did they add new guns

Namalsk 0.72 has several new weapons, G36 C included.

Who is loving the new update for Namalsk?

What do the helmet and hearts do? I after I picked them up the blowouts didn't seem to affect me much.
  15. As is the case with every weapon in the game. They're weapons. They're not designed to tickle. They're made to kill. The whole "sniper rifles are for bandits" argument is weak. I don't camp high-traffic areas with snipers. However, I will keep watch as my squad makes bunker runs or refuels the truck. I've had to kill in the process. I wouldn't say that makes me a bandit.

    day z needs more vehicles!

    More cars, less gasoline.

Forgive me lord for i have sinned

Yes. You're a dirty bandit bastard and can never go back. Really, no. You were just looking out for you and yours. Up north, anything goes.

Why are you not a bandit?

I truly feel that if I give in to the dark side and begin shooting on site and killing unarmed players, then all of the COD kiddies who made my first few weeks on DayZ so hard would have won; that is, they would have turned another optimistic survivor into a deathmatching savage. After 6 weeks of play I've only killed 4 players, and only one of those was "unprovoked" (did not respond over DC while pointing his gun at me, claimed in side chat later to have been trying to help me). I have no delusions the banditry is negative; it is an integral part of the game. But the ignorant, altruistic side of me wants to believe that the savage's mindset can be overcome. I choose not to be a bandit out of the hope that others will choose not to be bandits.

    The Black Widow... Real?

Do you mean GI or WarZ?

    The Moral Compass

Uh... On topic: Any "feelings" this game induces should only be IRL. To impose any mood or emotion on the player's character is not what this game is about. Good job putting it together, though.

promote walking (will be unpopular of a suggestion)

I think this is a wonderful idea. It would add an entirely new level of player behavior. You would start seeing things like guarded caravans and patrols. You'd see COD kiddies running around a city killing fresh spawns, only for a well-rested player to give chase and hunt them down. A whole new intensity to running from zombies. It it could be affected by adverse health conditions, etc. Obviously it would require much balancing, but things like this were exactly what I was hoping for when I got into DayZ.

    If DayZ was a city

Seattle. Large urban center, sprawling suburbs, lots of farmland nearby, plenty of coastline for spawning, cold mountains for base-making, proper tone for an apocalypse (born in Seattle, if you've been there you'll understand) and it's already been made for the Take On Engine. Plus, nearby Issaquah has a large wholesale goods distributor headquartered in town. It would be awesome to see the incredibly dangerous but bountiful CostCo distribution center as a hotspot for food and supplies.
