8th consecutive day trying to get DayZ running - PLEASE HELP!!!
bayers replied to KoRnage_1's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Its tough for new players to install Arma mods. But for steam its done like this: Download and unzip the addons (i suggest the torrent download because its got all the files in there in one place) Go to your Operation Arrowhead directory in the drive that you have steam installed. So it will be like this D:\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead. Create a file called @dayz in the above directory. Go into the @dayz folder and create a folder called addons. Put the unzipped files into the addon folder In steam, right click on operation arrowhead and go to properties at the bottom. Select set launch options and in the line type in -mod=@dayz -nosplash Then launch combined operations by right clicking on operation arrowhead and selecting it. When you are in the Arma game menu, there should be @dayz in the top right corner beside arma 2, if its been done correctly. And you dont need to redownload the full game if it doesnt work. Just the mod files -120MB or so. Make sure you have the correct addons, they change every few days. On a further note, sometimes when you launch combined operations, the chernarus map doesnt load. You can check this buy running the mission editor in single player and if the chernarus map, along with the takistan map are available, then its working. If that is the problem though, there are ways to fix it. -
Id like the people who refer to playstyles as COD-style to kindly stop. I go around shooting anything that moves, thats the way I play the game. Im a bandit so eveything is my enemy. I dont shoot people I know. Some refer to this as the COD playstyle. I have never even played COD, but I assume its not an open sandbox on a 225 km2 island where the player is free to do what he/she pleases. I assume in COD you go charging in, guns blazing. That will get you killed here. I play DayZ like I play BE Warfare i.e. if you are a potential threat, im going to try to kill you... It has absolutely nothing to do with COD or any other crap. It takes practive to become good at Arma, one cant just come on and after 2 days be able to take on people that have played for years. That might happen in COD or CSS, but not Arma. So anyone that complains about other players killing them.. I put it to them - they are either new or not very good at the game, and so the tears. DayZ and COD have nothing in common, except now for the whining kids with a massive sense of self entitlement. Im going to keep playing the way I play. But its not like any COD game, its the way experienced people play. Its lonely at the top.

Why cant there be a normal competition? Why do people have to jump through hoops to even get into the competition. I hate that kind of shit. -
A hacker spawned it. There are no tanks in DayZ

Some suggestions for the future (from an Arma RPG player)
bayers posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have some suggestions that could be added in the future to improve role-play and whatnot in the mod, if the developers like em. Ive been playing the Arma/OFP series for a very longtime and have played many different mods over the years. There was a role-play mod I used to frequent called CLU. It was a mod were you could either be a civillian or a cop. As a civ you could choose to be a manufacturer or a criminal, amongst other things. or as a cop to catch criminals or give out speeding tickets. I chose to be a criminal and was good at it. Here is what my gang and I used to get up to and its taken from ingame gameplay. None of it is staged: In order to do all that, we had miners working for us. We had cops on the take (we paid them for information so we could bomb their colleagues, money talks!). We had manufacturers making guns and cars for us (and the carbombs). There were lots of cool features in the mod that could be added here if the developers liked them. But im not sure how it would work with the servers being linked to the hive server but here were some of the features: -Players could make ingame squads so they could communicate using the green com channel. It was useful for people wanting to keep their coms secret from the other players. Could work here as its not wise to let other players know what you plans are over global chat. In the game you went to a bulletin board in town and created/joined squads. -Players had mobile phones so they could send texts to all other players on the server, useful too if you dont want other knowing were you are or what you are doing. Might not work in a post apocalyptic landscape as the cellular towers wouldnt work. But maybe use radios instead. -There was a government and players could elect a mayor to set taxes and the like. Not sure if it could be used here, but might be good for roleplay and such. -Players had access to stunguns that stunned a player when hit. They were knocked out for 30 seconds, so in that time the players' items could be looted. The stunned player also dropped their weapons on the ground, so they couldnt just get up and gun you down. Would be nice in DayZ to have something like that, cause at the moment you have to murder a person in order to take his beans. -Their were many animations, but the most useful one was the "hands up" animation. When activated the player could have his stuff looted without the need to kill him. People might use it in DayZ if they are surrounded by hostiles and didnt want to go down swinging. -Cops could stun people and handcuff them. Then they could drag the player into a car and take them to jail. If it was in DayZ you could stun another survivor and take him back to your lair and do unworldy deads there. -Players could make buildings in factories, like the large white shop or barriers, and go make a base in the forest that was walled off and had gates for people to enter. It was a place were they could meet and hide from teh cops or just chill. -Drugs were a major part of the game. They could be grown and refined then sold on or taken by the player. Some of the effects were interesting. Also, there was alcohol. When the player consumed it, the screen went all blurry and it affected the steering mechanism in cars. A bit like drinking in GTA IV. Since this game has got so popular, I dont think it would be wise to allow players to take hard drugs, but the alcohol might work. Go drinking around the campfire with your bandit/survivor pals. -There was a carjack in the game that you could use to unflip cars that you might have crashed. I rolled a car in DayZ and had to wait until a server restart to get it back. Was nerve racking though as it was on a busy road and someone could have come across it at any moment. -Players could go fishing and catch fish. Either in the sea in a boat or around the coastline or in lakes inland. These are really simple ideas that would increase role-play things but they might not be suitable for the hive system. There are many more but they would require money and leveling up, something that might not suit the mod, but who knows what the future will bring. There is so much that the developers could do here. I cant wait to see it in a few months. Edit: And as for the bandits skins being removed, It would be nice to have say 5 slots in the lobby for people wanting to have a bandits skin. Its seems that the population is 10% bandit, so being able to choose a bandit skin would be nice. Given the choice, I would take the way of the bandit everytime. -
Oh the humanity!!!

Check out from 2hrs 13 mins. I joined them at that time. I told em to move to the trees as noobs would be hunting them by watching the stream and sure enough they got hit. They hung around and let the sniper pick em off when the server came back. THEN!! One of the team shot me in the back and stole my silenced M4 and NVG. You can see me with the M4 at 2hrs 14mins, then when you see the survivor with the old-man taki face runnning around with it. Im gonna be back there nextime but we wont be friends.

Sometimes those barns only need 1 shot to destroy them. If you are shooting out the window and you hit the inside by accident the barn will some down
-
Yeh if you shoot a house enough it will take damage. Some of those sheds only need a few bullets to destory them.

Thats cool man. Thanks for sharing

Spawn on coast glitch with existing character.
bayers replied to KilltheInfected's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yeah. Happened to me today as well. I dont mind the loss of gear. I just want to know if my cars are alright. I left em far from the coast and filled with nice gear that took me ages to stockpile. I havent managed to get up that far yet to check on them, so if someone could tell me if cars were excluded from this whole teleporting business, I would pollute my breeches with delight
