    Such Frustration & Some Feedback

I have to ask, if a desperate struggle to survive that usually ends in your death is so frustrating to you, when do you think you're ever going to have fun with DayZ? No matter how well-equipped you get, you're always going to need food, water, morphine, ammunition, etc. It doesn't get more common the longer you play or something. The barns up north have the same spawn rates as the barns down south, etc. The game will always challenge you to find the next source of sustenance. Sometimes it can even get harder later - as you acquire rare weapons, finding ammunition becomes more difficult and then you find yourself faced with the choice of using your last precious FN FAL rounds just because you need a can of beans from the grocery store and you leave yourself without a primary weapon, etc. It's always risky to hit a hospital, no matter how long you've been playing or what weapons you have. Long story short, this is DayZ. This is what it's all about. If all those "spawn, aggro zombie, die" experiences weren't interesting to you - and if you didn't learn anything from them about what NOT to do the next time around - then I don't know how you will ever enjoy DayZ whether it's your first day on the beach or 30th day in the woods.
  2. I've raided multiple helo crashes in 1.7.1.5 and the zombie density around those makes it look like a zombie dance party. Yet, in-and-out, grab loot and scoot and I haven't angered any of them yet. Just go prone sooner, and keep your distance. Observe the zombies paths/trajectories and time your movement in conjunction so your path does not intersect theirs. If you must enter a building, check the surroundings in advance and try and peek to the interior or listen for interior zombies. In short, be carefully, plan ahead and use your senses to the best of your ability to stay alive. Just like you would do in real life if you were surrounded by thousands of mindless, infected killing machines.

    Do Tents Work?

If tents disappear entirely, the server is likely out of sync with the hive and a proper restart will restore the tents. Other than that, as long as you execute a 'Save' I've never seen a tent drop items. How many of you people claiming disappearing items are 100% confident that someone didn't just discover your tent while you were offline?

    Murders leaderboard

Oh, hey, look. Another thread filled top-to-bottom with person after person telling me how I should play and what I should find important and what sorts of things should and should not make the game fun and interesting for me. All while claiming in chorus that THEY are the ones who truly understand what a sandbox game means. How about this amazingly novel idea? Take it for a spin in your head. If you are not interested in leaderboards and don't take any personal pride in being on them either because you are not interested or because you hold tightly to the misguided notion that only cheaters and exploiters will find their way on to them, then just don't fucking look at the leaderboards. Cheaters, hackers and scripters are going to do what they do regardless of the presence of a leaderboard. It's really not like there are people out there who aren't cheating right now every day who are going to suddenly see the leaderboard and go, "Oh, now I'm a cheater." Yeah, no. And even if it encourages a very small handful of people to try out a cheat, who cares? This is an Alpha test and routing out cheats and exploits is just as important as the other types of testing we're doing. Let the idiots try an exploit or two - their presence on the leaderboard will expose their deed, BE can be updated if necessary and another round of Global Bans can make the game cleaner for all of us. As for the people who say this will encourage murder, there's another leaderboard called survival time that should encourage you to try really hard to avoid being murdered. So everyone gets their own goals. You want very badly to stay alive and maybe I want very badly to stop that from happening and we both get to play the same game and set our own goals and do what we want kind of like a sandbox game is supposed to be, right? "Oh, no, it might encourage murder!" Oh, well. Woe is you. Hike up your diaper and wade back in, soldier. You'll be all right I promise.

Breaking news - DayZ will be part of Arma 2!

This would actually be bad, because then rocket would no longer be able to release work-in-progress builds and would instead be stuck on ARMA 2's release cycle. Anyway, it sounds like a misquote perhaps. ARMA 2 has been making fixes and updates in their beta patches that seem conveniently DayZ specific (like being able to keep your gear while swimming), so I think that's probably what he was discussing.

    People...WTF is wrong with you?

Fine, but again, who cares? Why is that a problem? You despise that, so don't do it. They still make YOUR experience more interesting by playing the way they do, by your own admission. So why change the system? Let them have their FFA sandbox and we can have our mixed-survival-shooter and other people can have their cow hunting simulator and still others can play Virtual Cartographer 2013, etc. As long as rocket leaves the game free and open, it can be whatever you want it to and the presence of other players with their own goals and motivations will make the accomplishing of your goals more interesting. Once you run out of the desire to make your own goals and start expecting rocket to make them for you, you're going to get bored really quickly I think. And that's okay, no game - even the best - keeps anyone's interest forever.
  7. Vehicles in motion need to be saved to the hive more often first of all so that a server restart cannot roll a vehicle back to a safe point. Also' date=' anyone entering or exiting a vehicle should save it's position and state as well. Fresh player corpses need to be stored on the hive so that a server restart cannot clear loot and prevent a victorious player from claiming their loot from a defeated admin. Server locking should be disabled in all but the most extreme cases. Any request to lock a server or any server locked for greater than 5 minutes should be immediately flagged for audit and review by moderators. Server restarts should be scheduled. 15 minutes in advance at least and announced with messages on the server. Any [i']unscheduled or unannounced reboots should be subject to investigation by moderators. (I get that instability would make that an insurmountable task at the moment, but they could still run random audits on the logs). Servers with many, frequent unscheduled reboots should be blacklisted. Staff should publish server statistics on reboots, crashes, average uptime, average ping etc. so the community can review server stats and make educated choices about the servers they frequent.

    People...WTF is wrong with you?

That sounds like a really boring way to play the game. My last two survivors have been alive for 15 days and 11 days respectively, and I haven't been to the NWAF on either character. It's the Cherno of the north at this point. I get all the weapons, supplies and vehicles I need elsewhere. That's the great thing about DayZ. You don't have to care why other people do what they do. The presence of rampant PK and unrestricted PvP, regardless of the motivation, makes everything else you do in the game more interesting and dramatic. I don't "hunt" other players though I will absolutely kill them if they wander into my territory. I've had ~6 murders in the past 30 days. By no means a lot. But everything ELSE I've done in the game - every vehicle I've built, town I've looted, trip I've made etc. has been far more intense and interesting because the whole time I knew that at any moment I might come under fire from a homicidal maniac. The game is more interesting when there are people trying to kill you all the time. Who cares WHY they do it? If your goal is not to survive, there's no incentive to DO ANYTHING. What do you expect the game to do, play itself for you? I don't even understand what you're lobbying for.

dark is TOO FUCKING DARK -> dayz devs listen ffs

Dude, slow down. You've only posted twice on the forums and you've already spent your oral and anal sodomy tokens. You need to save some of those for later when you're in a real argument.

Except he obviously cares as he is actively fixing these bugs. Zombies can no longer attack through walls and I haven't seen them walk through one since 1.7.1.1. They still walk through doors, but progress is progress and this is Alpha after all. Remember? Alpha? That thing that rocket was kind of enough to make available to us for testing and feedback long before most studios would have even announced the existence of a product? It's broken? Again, he's fixing bugs like this constantly. Ladders were deadly when I started playing. Now they're not. Bugs exist, bugs get found, bugs get fixed. That's WHY WE ARE HERE. Do you understand that? Did you read the stickied post right at the top of the fucking forums that addresses this very clearly? Did you read it? Thought not. Enjoy your ban, spanky.

    Player Death Heat Maps

I think someone asked one of the developers for this info in a "stats" thread awhile back and were summarily rejected. They do not want to publish this, as it gives people a kind of "what not to do" map.
  12. Why bother doing anything in the game if your goal is not to maximize your survival? If you're unwilling to take the most basic steps toward safeguarding your own life and ensuring your survival' date=' then why should your evaluation of the game's design be taken seriously? What is your goal in the game? Just to get 'lewtz' regardless of the risk? If so, then yes - by all means run around like a complete idiot at the start of the game aggro'ing every zombie in sight. No reason not to. But, you can't play this way and then come back to the forums expecting to get traction on ideas for changes to the design to somehow facilitate your game play choices or encourage you to make different ones. You chose to play recklessly and throw away your survivors. Fine. Go do it and have fun. Many of us play more carefully. Hour 1 or Hour 51, I treat every survivor as a precious commodity and play to "win" which is to say not die, regardless of how much gear I do or do not have. I hear you. I have 2 kids and I don't play DayZ alone so I have to synchronize my play time with others as well. It's not easy but we all have the same attitude - survival above all else. And the core members of our group are all having great success. We have had only 1 death in the last ~30 days approximately.
  13. Kudos on this, man. Actually enjoyed taking it and glad to see someone taking an approach to info gathering beyond hunches and guesses and assumptions.

Hey guys I found a blank canvas, an awesome set of paint brushes, a comfortable stool to sit on and paints in every possible color. I'm done now, right? Nothing left to do...

    Rules of the forums

Ohh, now it all makes sense. armadayz is actually an alt account of nightpaws. nightpaws made a video where he tries to run down the beach like a Baywatch lifeguard and gets shot in the back - and used the video as evidence as to why PvP in the game "must" be restricted in some way. In the thread, I tore him up a bit and now he's obviously upset about the treatment he received. I'm sure if you will read the thread you can see I started out pretty civil - with suggestions on how to improve his play, and only tore him down once he became argumentative and nonsensical. At any rate, it's obviously the same person as the "split pig brains" quote comes right from this thread - although he got it wrong. I actually said "like a pig on a spit" which isn't actually a personal insult, just an analogy I made comparing a crossbow bolt through the brain to roasting a pig on a spit. I guess in his brain that translated to "split pig brains" although I'm not sure what those are. I was wondering why armadayz popped up and was immediately calling me out in thread after thread. Mystery solved. Anyway, good times. Lots of fun. I look forward to seeing his future accounts. Incidentally I wouldn't be surprised if he was also zombieballs who registered around the same time and was similarly quickly banned for acting like a complete wad.

After Being Banned Can i play?

And before that. All the weeks it was in top sellers before they started banning anyone? Just a weird coincidence, that?
  17. Do you really believe that the current zombie AI is the intended final functionality? Yes, it's easy to cheese zombies right now. No, that's not always going to be the case. There's a sticky thread, right at the very top of the forum for you, that discusses this very topic and advises you that detection behavior is incomplete and partially functional. So maybe we should hold off basing our critiques of the other design choices on incomplete zombie behaviors? And anyway, just because you lose the zombies doesn't mean you didn't just expose your position to 5+ players in the area. You can pull a nightpaws: run headlong through town with 50 zombies screaming at you, and then come to the forums and complain the game needs to be fundamentally changed because someone found you and shot you in your face.

    Where is the CZ550?

If you find any un-repaired offroad pickup trucks, they always spawn with one CZ550 in the back.
  19. Someone who just woke up on the beach with no idea how they got there.
  20. ZedsDeadBaby

    Why fight?

Why would you want to? Dead zombies offer nothing to you in terms of survival, and engaging them is dangerous. It's a waste of ammo for nothing. Avoid them at all costs. This isn't a zombie shooting gallery.
  21. ZedsDeadBaby

    Murders not counting today.

If the people you kill have low humanity themselves, it's not murder.
  22. Yeah, dude. Sorry. You shot your entire argument in the foot by referencing all the film and literature you did - which all include both instances of human cooperation AND brutal, unforgiving inhumanity. The Road is especially appropriate because their encounters with humans early in the book - the cannibals who literally hunt them as meat - color and influence their encounter with the man later in the book who shoots the man in the leg with an arrow at first sight. The Man is literally "shot on sight" in The Road by a man who is afraid to allow them to approach - even though he's not sure if they are friendly - and later is murdered as a result. Yet you pony it up as evidence that such things should be disallowed or discouraged in the game? You could not have picked a better story to emulate the experience you have in DayZ of finding some lone people to cooperate with, but mostly being constantly afraid that you might not survive your next encounter with a survivor. The same is true in 28 Days Later. Yes, you have humans with whom you cooperate - but you also have rapists and murderers who may not "shoot on sight" but they take a guy out in the woods and execute him, then they try to move on to the rape only to be murdered themselves! How can you fail to admit that rocket has done an almost uncanny job capturing exactly this kind of dynamic - small groups of survivors who trust each other, but who move among many other survivors and groups whose intentions are unclear? Violence is incredibly common, both for survival and for other reasons. Even the experience of building a group in the game emulates this literature amazingly. You can have a very small group of trusted friends, but if you try to make a very large, diverse group of people you might not trust implicitly, then all of a sudden you start to get suspicious of people even in your group. Are they who they say they are? Are their intentions true? The fact that you use these films and literature as an example of why the game should be altered in a way that would make these kinds of stories LESS common and LESS intense, heart-pounding, frustrating and brutal is infuriating to me, honestly. On a very real level I am angry at you for trying to use this material to argue against DayZ's design when it, in fact, does an amazing job recreating the experience of the characters in all of them. Registered today? Cool, man. Welcome to the forums and discussion. Is this the general quality of post I should expect from you, or more of a one-off kind of "I'm just going to act like a retard for a quick second" kind of post? Just want to know what to expect in the coming weeks from the likes of "zombieballs" as he critiques DayZ's design with his insight and sharp wit.
