  1. The beauty of DayZ is that if you sucked rocks at being a survivor, you're going to suck even worse at being a bandit. So, good luck. Nothing is going to change for you nor your friends. You might shoot a few people here and there but you're still going to get straight shut down by superior forces using superior tactics.

Ranks on the DayZ forum [(awake) for example]

Pretty sure it's just post count. Mine changed at 500 exactly.

    We need a jump command.

Attempts to jump over 4' tall barbed wire wall wearing 225 lbs. of equipment. Face-plants amidst the barbed wire, severing 3 major arteries and discharging primary weapon into own jaw. Bleeds to death slowly.
  4. Except you're the one proposing to play God by subjecting my chosen role to a filter of arbitrary rules and regulations that have no basis in the universe of DayZ. What is the basis for requiring people to announce their intentions to others? What you're calling RP is just an arbitrary set of regulations to control player behavior. Don't call that RP. Call it a modified ruleset. It's not RP. Yes. But, again, that has nothing to do with "RP" as such. If you want to make a bunch of new rules to make a "better game" (in your opinion) then that's fine. But you can't just call it RP to sound high-and-mighty about it. If I'm a chaotic evil thief playing hide & seek with a toddler, I'm allowed to wait for him to cover his eyes and start counting and then jam a dagger in his belly and pick his pockets while he bleeds out on the ground crying for his mommy, right? Right.
  5. If I want to RP someone who kills without reason, why should I be disallowed by your arbitrary set of [RP] rules? And how am I supposed to make sure the guy I want to snipe from 1600m "knows" why I'm about to blow his head off? Just seems like an excuse to control PvP under the guise of RP. I don't think you're doing justice to what the word RP actually means. You want Lawful Good, True Neutral and Chaotic Good but as soon as the Chaotic Evil folks show up you're going to start handing out kicks and bans for "not RPing"?

How To: Spawn Without a Weapon

You're kind of missing the point to the post, bud. I'm not saying you can't find anything at the X'd out locations, I'm saying if long term, consistent survival is your goal then you are better off avoiding areas near the coast. Yes, you can get lucky and find a weapon and not get shot. But your chances of being seen and shot are higher near the coast, so why bother? It literally takes an extra 3 minutes to run further inland to a deer stand that probably gets visited less than once per day. Then again, if you aren't having any trouble finding weapons, then this thread probably isn't for you is it? It's in response to the many, many complaints regarding the difficulty of finding a weapon and the frequency of being shot while hunting for one.

    Saving Vehicles- Does it Work?

    It works. There's no feedback.

    Starting items

Everyone should start with a bandage and a rape whistle. That's it.

    How to fight campers?

Be the groundhog. Beyond that, you just have to hope for the best. Server-swapping is always a danger no matter how careful you are. Just don't get too attached to your survivor. Understand that you ARE going to die. Everyone who is truly playing the game will die eventually. The only way to guarantee survival is to never log in.

    "Hey, I know you!"

Didn't find this post when I was writing up my player identification/classification system (because your title wasn't super descriptive) but it seems like a really similar idea. Great stuff. Support lodged. Few comments, though I haven't read the entire thread so I apologize if they have been covered or mentioned: 1) Initial identification and future recognition should both be based on proximity. 20-50m or so with the unaided eye, equivalent distances with optics. You shouldn't be able to recognize a friend/foe from 1000m away. 2) An addendum system of "classification" would be useful - so when you name a survivor like "Stary Stalker" you can then place him in the "unknown" category and his name would display as grey next time you recognized him. However if you witnessed him murder someone and wanted to place him in the "Danger" category his name would appear red. This would all be manually done by the player, not the game itself - so it would be up to the player to set their own standards of judgement and categories. The classification system would really just be there to emulate human memory (since the models in the game aren't unique enough to do it for you). 3) I actually think it's essential that your memory be erased on death. Why? Because this creates an incredibly compelling additional reason to survive! Over time, your memory of other players will actually become more valuable than your gear. You can always find another gun, but those 350+ players you have encountered, named and categorized? That is PRICELESS information. And since there's no way to store your memory in a tent or truck or give it to friends to protect, it is attached to you and you alone. Anyway. Great post. Good idea. +1, etc.
  12. Ahh, and here it is again. The same ridiculous fallacy. Mindless AI opponents controlled by predictable scripts? A-okay! Give me more! Mindful human opponents controlled by actual brains and capable of the full gambit of human emotion? "Dumbed down." I hate to end posts with trite shit like 'lol' but in this case. LOL.
  13. Find? Yes. Use? No. The exploit has been found, reported, documented, researched and thoroughly explained. Don't act like people are still doing the team a favor by using it over and over again hundreds of times a day. Like your 500th ALT-F4 is somehow going to reveal something about the exploit we didn't know on your 5th or 50th...

How To: Spawn Without a Weapon

Well, if you really know what you're doing your friend should be picking you up on a motorcycle before you take more than 20 steps, then driving you back to base. This is in the New Player forum for a reason. ;)

    Spawning with no weapons/ammo

http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=29000&pid=255851#pid255851 Just get off the coast and hit deer stands and high/medium value farm buildings. You will have an AK or a Winchester in no time at all.

Simple Solution to Loot Farming via Server Hopping

Fewer people blinking into existence behind you means fewer deaths. If their server hopping for loot they're ALSO going to be killing anyone they come across in the process. So it WILL reduce incidents of PvP based on server login advantage. It's not about changing player's motivations it's about keeping the list of players on the server more consistent and therefore reducing the number who are randomly blinking into existence behind you. Uhh, that's just one server. How are you going to do that on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th servers without leaving and coming back again, without your vehicle, hence requiring the 10 minute jog, hence discouraging the action because it wouldn't really be profitable over time? I don't see how this out maneuvers anything. That's why it took us 9 pages not to think of it.
  18. It's not slang. It's a word. Apparently you're not a "vocabulary scientist" either.
  19. https://www.google.com/search?q=define%3Achoad You're a software engineer with knowledge of the ARMA engine' date=' I assume? No? Yet, you make proclamations as to the ease of making a fairly significant alteration to the way players connect and disconnect to the game. Conclusion: choad status confirmed.
