Bandit skins were a lazy' date=' broken, inelegant mechanic that made no allowance for mitigating circumstances and was incredibly prone to false positives. [list'] [*] Players A and B open fire on my partner and I from a distance. Player A kills my partner, I kill player B. I now have a murder and likely a bandit skin for acting in self defense. This can be extrapolated into larger groups - large firefights where who is and who is not a bandit is determined largely by who is the better shot. [*] I come upon a player looting my tent, stealing my survival supplies and equipment and depriving my group of hours of hard work. I act in defense of my possession. I am now a "bandit" for defending my home. [*] I park my truck near a gas station to refuel. A player comes charging up and jumps in the driver seat and tries to take off. I shoot him through the windshield to stop him stealing my vehicle. I am now a "bandit" for defending my property. [*] A player fires on me or a teammate and then gets into a vehicle to escape. In the vehicle are 3 other "innocent" survivors. I am now a bandit 3 times over if I fire on the fleeing vehicle, even though these players are in clear collusion with a murderer. [*] A player shoots at me and misses. I return fire and do not miss. I am now a bandit. etc., etc. ad nauseum. The list goes on. If those are not legitimate enough reasons to remove the skin, then consider that the mere fact that they require a divine, third-party judge and jury to exist within the machine in order for their existence to even make sense. Why should we rely on such a silly brute force mechanic when there are far more robust and immersive means to identify players and categorize their behavior? HardTarget has a great suggestion here. My own system of identification and classification would work too. Players need to take responsibility for witnessing acts and being their own judges. Stop asking the game designers to be your witness, jury and judge. Bandit skins are gone forever. They're never coming back. rocket has reiterated this in recent interviews, and it's great that he's sticking to his guns despite misguided opinions like yours. Cheers.

The real reason why it's shoot on sight

A wolf in sheep's clothing I see. Yet another nefarious form of "I find it interesting to play DayZ in a certain way, so that is how everyone should play it forever." What would you have me do, invite all my friends to come play the game and then tell them "Oh, sorry, we can't meet up in Skype like we do for every other game because some dude on the forums said it was ruining his experience."? Do I have to avoid my friends altogether? Or should I have never invited them to play in the first place? Guess what? I don't like random strangers. I don't like them in real life and I don't like them in games. I want to spend my Friday night with a few beers and a few friends I know and trust, not litsening to some 14-year-old from who-knows munching Doritos and burping Mt. Dew in my ear all night just because you think that makes the game somehow more compelling. If you don't have any friends in the game or don't want to invite friends, that's fine. The styles are not mutually exclusive. You can reach out and make contact with groups just as easily as you can with individuals. And maybe even make some new friends in the process. Nothing stopping you and no reason for people to shun their friends.

Incentive for not being a bandit?

Spawn. Walk to barn. Mission accomplished. You literally put more time and effort into creating this thread than you need to put into finding your first weapon in the game. Which is saying a lot since you don't even take the time to form cogent English sentences made out of words that actualy exist. You should be grateful we were able to slog through this waist-deep verbal diarrhea and respond at all.

Incentive for not being a bandit?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Marvel (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Alive Characters: 367,501 Bandits Alive: 67,750 Tell me, why should I bother reading the rest of your idea when it's based on a premise that is demonstrably false through stats posted on this very website? You people wonder why you get nowhere on this forum. Open your eyes for a start. Edit: Yup, read the rest of your post. Standard anti-PvP bullshit. "Please punish people for playing the game in a way that differs from my own." Here's a tip, chucklenuts. If you want to discourage banditry, pick up an FN FAL, put some bullets in it, and discourage the living shit out of them. The designers aren't going to be your knights in shining armor, riding in against the setting sun to rescue you from the big bad bandits. -
I love it when people suggest changes to the game design and give hackers as their reason. Like how about we just fix the hacks instead, Sherlock? Vehicles are fine. Hide them well, protect them, but you shouldn't be able to keep them forever just because you really, really want to.

Playing with friends = good for the community?

Oh, look. Someone else trying to tell people what the game is supposed to be. How about you play DayZ the way you want and I play it the way you want and you butt the fuck out of my business. Deal? -
The real reason why it's shoot on sight
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Reared'by'night's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Can you try and explain first why it's broken before you start talking about "fixing" it? We have that system. It's called guns and bullets. Get a gun and put bullets in it and go counter bandits. When you click on "What is Dayz" there are only 4 things it tells you to do and one of them is to shoot bandits. So if that's what you want to do' date=' why don't you go do it? Remedy what? What are you trying to remedy? You have to identify a problem before you suggest a solution. "PvP occurs in a PvP game" is not exactly a problem, is it? It's not that you comment on it, it's that you do so with such ignorant presumption. You start from the flawed premise that banditry is a "problem" that needs a "solution" but that's simply not true. Banditry is a critical part of the game, and given the stats (15% of deaths by murder) it's not even that common. -
Since the bandit skins were removed life expectancy has gone up and murder rates have not. The bandit skin was a broken, error-prone, brute-force inelegant mechanic that accomplished nothing and the game has improved since their removal. Also, there are 500 threads on this topic you could have gone to and read exactly the same thing without cluttering the forums with another pointless post asking for the return of something that's gone forever.

ZedsDeadBaby replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sure, as long as pigeons and doves flock around survivors. Oh, no? What's that? You only wanted to punish people who choose to play the game differently than you? Oh, well, then. Get fucked, twatsock. -
The real reason why it's shoot on sight
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Reared'by'night's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So hard to tell if some of you ridiculous clowns are serious. Yes. Please "hinder" the exact aspect of the game that makes it unique and amazing. Or, how about this brilliant idea - like, if you don't want to play a sandbox game go play a game that's not a sandbox game. Doesn't that seem like a much more obvious solution than choosing to play a sandbox game and then bitching about it? -

It's cute how you're like "this game is not sustainable" and then go on to describe how PvP is really fun and exciting. Where does it say he's trying to build a real world scenario? Where does it say he expects people to behave as they would in real life? "Hey guys, I invented a bunch of design goals the creators of the mod never stated were actually goals but here's why we can't achieve them." Like, thanks. Next tell us how we will never have working air hockey tables. -

Starting to Doubt the Realism...
ZedsDeadBaby replied to green_machine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, no. That's not how Alphas work. Taking out features because they're not ideally implemented completely defeats the purpose. The whole idea is to implement things piecemeal. Try them out, see how they work, see how the players respond, and slowly tweak them bit by bit based on testing and feedback. Yes, it's not a complete feature. Yes, sometimes you break your leg when a real person probably wouldn't have. Tweaks are coming in the next patch and I'm sure more will follow. Deal with it or go away and wait for Beta. -

ZedsDeadBaby replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Only 18% of players are bandits. Only 15% of survival attempts end in murder. This does not indicate a system "out of control." You made a series of stupid choices (not least of which being starting this ridiculous thread). You died. It's okay. You get to try again. Change your diaper, dry those tears and get out there and give it another try, soldier. -

The reason why it's "shoot on sight"
ZedsDeadBaby replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Better yet, it was 28 minutes and falling the day bandit skins were removed. The change that supposedly ruined the game and turned it into an all-out deathmatch happens to somehow correspond with a point of positive inflection for survivability. It's almost as if the clamor on the forums is out of touch with the reality of the game. -
it shouldn't take 50 tries to meet up with friends

Okay, then. Humor me. Name something in the game more important to survival than a trusted friend. -
it shouldn't take 50 tries to meet up with friends
ZedsDeadBaby replied to psychopigeon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not a question of authenticity or realism. It's a matter of attempting to remove a large part of the challenge that the game presents. A friend is the single most valuable piece of "loot" in the game. More powerful than any gun, more important to your survival than any can of beans and more critical to long term success in the game than any piece of gear. Accepting this, you have to realize that asking to be automatically spawned next to your friend is the design equivalent of asking to be spawned next to a pile of high-value military loot. You're basically saying "Let me skip the challenge and get right to the reward." Well, frankly, no. The challenge and frustrations of getting together is a critical part of the game and when you finally succeed you will value that companionship all the more because you had to work for it and didn't just have it dropped in your lap when you clicked "Join Game."
