Can this Mod run on other maps?

Chernarus is an existing ARMA map. DayZ, however, is portable and can be plugged in to any map. I'm sure retail DayZ will have its own map, not Chernarus. But to answer your overall point, yes, the game becomes much easier when you can recognize every town on the map by sight. You will get there eventually. Don't give up.
  2. Most likely just load. I suggest you relax with a beer and give the servers time to cool off a bit.
  3. This has to be one of the sillilest things I've read on the forum this week. Kudos for that. To your point, there have been 11.4MM survival attempts, and only 370,438 players are alive at the moment. This means 11,029,562 players have died and only 1,703,098 of those deaths were from murder. The average survival time remains below an hour. So clearly some people out there could use a fucking hand, don't you think? Oh, come on. Now you're just trying to make my list of silliest statements. There are many varied benefits to having living survivors near you whom you can count on in a pinch. Now we're getting somewhere. This is a problem we can actually solve. Go check out and potentially show your support for this idea. Or this one. Both would give players a means to identify other players in the game and, assuming they witness acts of atrocity, assign them appropriate categories based on observed behavior.
  4. He specifically referred to them as "companions."

    Patch 1.7.2 will not load

Probably just overloaded servers. People clamoring to play. Give it a couple hours I'm sure things will smooth out.
  6. Are you jokers serious? My 3 friends and I, mostly new to the game, found on a single server in the past ~5 days: 1 Land Rover, 1 URAL, 2 Offroad Pickups, 2 ATVs, 2 Bicycles, 2 Motorcycles, 1 Yellow Hatchback, 1 Red Sedan, 1 UAZ, 1 S1203 Van, 2 Tractors and a Small Fishing Boat. Also in touch with a rival clan on the server and they confirmed ownership of a VS3 Civilian truck, at least 1 Bicycle, 1 Tractor and another Offroad Pickup. 14 vehicles per server! Must be using a script! Where the fuck did you even pull that number, besides straight out of your ass? Jackasses.

    Build 1.7.2 Rolling Update

Thanks rocket & team for the continued efforts. Truly the most amazing gaming experience I have had in over a decade.

    Infected Dogs

rocket has dropped hints of a canine companion mechanic on several occasions. Along with more player fortifications, it is probably as close as we have to a "confirmed" feature in the future. So, I propose a corollary: infected dogs. Infected dogs could: Be far more rare than infected humans. Have decreased sight capacity. Have increased hearing capacity. Have improved scent and tracking. Move more quickly than infected humans. Do less damage than standard zombies but have an increased chance to cause bleeding (bites). Bark to alert nearby zombies. Oh, shit. Now it's on. This wouldn't particularly change player strategies or really alter the game in any significant way, so it's probably not a high priority mechanic - but it would be really, really cool and add to the atmosphere and enemy variety.

    Infected Dogs

I think they would have to be one shot kills, yes, because as you say they would be terrifying - especially if more than one were present (which would be rare). Not to mention they have a smaller frame so would be harder to hit. So, yeah, I would say one shot to down them. But can you imagine that bark? Not a normal bark but something guttural and terrible? Especailly at night? I'm scared just thinking about it. And, yes, I was thinking industrial/military sites: K9 crime units, bomb sniffing dogs, etc. All the weaker dogs and lesser breeds have been eaten for meat by now. ;)

    yet another fix for bandits...

No' date=' you see. That's not how it works. I don't have to have a "belief." I have the stats. The real numbers that represent what's really happening in the real game here in reality. They are right. fucking. there. on the front page. They say "This is what is happening in the game." They don't lie. They don't have personal biases. They don't use their experience to determine how they feel about things. They are just numbers. Really real numbers about what's really happening. Belief doesn't fucking enter into it. [b']18% of players are Bandits. 15% of deaths are murders. No "vast majority" no "rampant deathmatch" no "everyone is KoS," no none of the bullshit you claim. That's fact. That's reality. No belief necessary. It's there. Look. You can read the numbers too, right? They are literally right in front of your face. YOU are the one bringing your beliefs into the discussion and twisting reality to fit your pre-conceived agenda. And I will tail you around these forums and point it out every time you do it until you either wise up or shut up.
  11. Spawning with one? No way. There would be thousands of dogs everyhwere and their advantages would be pointless if everyone had one. Eww. Should be an ultra rare find, like more rare than vehicles - tied to a fence or house somewhere in need of rescue. And your dog's death should be permanent too, like yours. Also: infected dogs. Rawr.
  12. Nobody in this thread has disagreed with that point, but don't let that stop your emotional diarrhea.

    DCing to avoid players

    Craven.
  14. Uhh, what? So zombies would never, ever be a threat to anyone ever again? How the fuck? I mean, what? "Oh, no! Zombies everyhwere! I better... go in the other direction." Wow. Exciting stuff. I'm literally on the edge of my seat.

    yet another fix for bandits...

In other words I'm pointing out what is actually happening in reality and you're discussing some fantasy world you made up in your head based on a few bad experiences? Okay. As long as we're clear.
  16. Can you give me an example of some zombie fiction that does not include instances of human-on-human violence or murder? The climax of Night of the Living Dead is human-on-human violence when Ben murders Harry. The movie also ends with HvH violence when Ben is killed by "friendly fire." The climax of 28 Days Later is HvH violence where Jim pushes this thumbs through the eye-hole of another human, not a zombie. The movie also contains execution stlye killings, sexual slavery and gang rape. The Road is not zombie fiction, but is post-apocalyptic. It includes banditry, kidnapping, murder, infanticide, cannibalism, rape and suicide. The Walking Dead is full of HvH violence, mistrust, betrayal and murder. Help me out. What zombie fiction are you talking about that's all about cooperation and friendship? Dumbasses? Idiots? You reveal yourself so willingly not as someone who is concerned with being true to zombie literature or making the game better, but simply as somone who has an inherent bias against people who enjoy PvP. Coop and PvP are not mutually exclusive. They don't compete with one another. I can cooperate with others in order to PvP. Cooperation and PvP are just two parts of the game. Increasing one does not decrease the other, nor vice versa. That being said, there has been a definitive remark. rocket has said on multiple occasions, most recently in an interview at Rezzed, that players, not zombies, will be the primary threat in DayZ. It's not more advantageous. It's actually far more dangerous. Despite bandits only being 18% of players, they account for over 40% of deaths. This means the life of a bandit is already very dangerous and not very advantageous. Just because they get some gear doesn't mean they're more likely to survive. They are constantly putting themselves in harm's way and coming under fire, and they die far more often than regular players. Not least of which because they fight each other as often as they fight anyone else. "Bandit" is not a singular group of people. I've played over 500 hours and have never made PvP a primary goal. If you can't find things to do in the game it can only because you lack an imagination. The human world went away. That's kind of the problem we're dealing with at the moment. It already does. 18% is a vast majority? Anything else? Are we done here?

    yet another fix for bandits...

Dude. Just answer me. Do it. Please? 15% of deaths by murder. How does this equal "rampant deathmatching?" Can you please just stop pretending like I don't exist because you don't have a legitimate response?

PvE / Non Friendly Fire Servers

I think it would be doing players a grave disservice to allow them to learn the game without the presence of PvP because they would not actually be learning the game. Take the inventory system as an example. I used Google and learned how it worked on Day 1. A little clunky, but not rocket science. But, because PvP is an ever-present threat in the game I didn't stop there. I practiced, practiced, practiced over and over again moving things into and out of my bag, looting bodies, etc. I tried to get as fast as I possibly could at the system so that I would minimize my downtime and not be in one place for more than a few seconds. Now I am an inventory master. I can park a vehicle, hop out, put things in the trunk to make room for Jerry Cans, load my inventory with empty Jerry Cans, refuel the vehicle and swap back to my gear with lightning speed. It's like a pit crew at work I swear. This weekend my friend and I stopped to refuel our Land Rover and he was just barely out of the vehicle and finding the tank when I said "Done! Lets get out of here." He thought I was joking at first until I started the engine and honked the horn.

    the mysterious creature

Most of me thinks this is a silly troll, but honestly I did have an incredibly odd experience one night. I was on a black-as-pitch server running through the woods when I spotted something faint ahead. I went prone and peeked up over a rock nearby. In the distance I could see two blue lights floating. My first thought of course was chemlights, but as I watched... they didn't move, they weren't illuminating anything nearby, and they were positioned oddly - too high off the ground to be a crouching player, but too low to be any kind of a structure. They were spaced about as far apart as a pair of headlights would be, but the light was not nearly bright enough to be head or brake lights. Then. I died. Silently. No gunfire, no explosions just "Ugh. You are dead." I chalked it up to a hacker but now I'm proper freaked out hah.

    yet another fix for bandits...

Can you please tell me why you never respond to me when you post this and I point out that only 15% of deaths are murders? Every time you post this I respond and point out that you are wrong. And you ALWAYS ignore me. And then you pop up a few hours later posting the same inaccurate information. You are attempting to fix a problem that doesn't exist. That's why you're not getting anywhere.
  22. ZedsDeadBaby

Incentive for not being a bandit?

Agreed. But if you want to identify them' date=' you need to be the one who witnesses their acts, and you need to be close enough to identify them visually. Expecting the game to watch what everyone is doing at all times and then deliver you a definitive list of who is naughty and who is nice so you can go about your business without ever getting anywhere near anyone on the naughty list is crude and completely breaks any sense of immersion in this uncertain world. Why [i']should you know who bears you ill intent ahead of time? Yet another reason why the bandit skin and humanity system is currently pointless and broken. Why should crimes be absolved just by standing around doing nothing. If you witness a murder and identify the murderer, you should be free to punish that person as you see fit forever until they die and their crimes are erased, or YOU die and your memory of their crimes is erased. This "murderer for an hour" crap is just a symptom of the fact that the bandit skin system is inherently flawed to begin with. It labels people falsely bandits who might have been acting in self defense (rocket has confirmed this is the reason they were removed in the first place), so the regeneration exists to even things out over time. Tripe. That's the consequence for successful killing. You conveniently skip over the consequences for attempted murder which is that you, yourself, become a target. Killing is by no means a guarantee. Killing players for loot is orders of magnitude more dangerous than farming for it. Killing for food or water is just silly. Murder is a dangerous game, and will become even moreso if rocket gives us the ability to make visual identification on players who commit crimes.
