    1.7.2.2 yeah...

Yes, I'm sure you didn't have ANY fun during those 2 days. They're just "thrown out the window," indeed. a) It's Alpha. B) It's not about loot. Quit your belly-aching.

    A case against random weapons/loot

I just don't like the type of game play this encourages. "Sit on the egg until it hatches" or "Camp the egg from afar until someone foolishly tries to take it." Neither strike me as particularly compelling advances for DayZ. I like the uncertainty of random loot. The fact that I can finally make it to that grocery store and find nothing but tin cans and suffering, or the flip side where the first one I walk into has an ALICE Pack and an M16+M203 w/ ammo. It seems like your idea just introduces far too much certainty, predictability, and therefore repetitive go-here-then-go-there type strategies. It harkens back to camping the rocket launcher or rail gun spawns in Quake. Not exactly the feeling I want to get from DayZ.

Pvp, Too much of it nowadays?

Only 17.59% of players are Bandits. Only 14.01% of survival attempts end in murder. These stats do not include suicides to respawn, as per Vipeax here. Both of these numbers are lower than the last time I had to respond to you making these ignorant claims. So long as you insist on trolling around the forums spouting this bullshit I am going to follow you around with the actual facts and point out that you are wrong. I hope that's okay and we can still be friends.

    I'm Now a Deathmatch Player

If you find a wallet on the street, it's much easier to take the money out, drop the wallet and go about your business, right? It takes a lot of effort and willpower to gather the wallet, determine the owner, get in contact with them and find a way to return their wallet. Being the better person is always more difficult. If the good and just way were always the easiest and most rewarding, we wouldn't have any bad guys in the world now would we?

How can you tell if someone is a bandit?

Yes, people do. Everyone I know who plays the game plays it with other people, as do many people. Just do a random Youtube video hunt and see how many depict group play. Now if you're talking about coop with random bugheads I run into in the game, okay. My reasons for not grouping up with these people have nothing to do with the game mechanics and everything to do with the fact that random strangers are generally bad at the game and are as likely to get me killed acting like an idiot or through unchecked friendly fire as anything else. The day the game comes up with some arbitrary way to "force" me into grouping with every random 13-year-old, Dorito-munching slackjaw I bump into in the game is the day I go find another game to play. There IS a LARGE disadvantage to being a bandit. It's called getting shot at all the goddamn time. Bandits account for 18% of the alive players, but over 40% of deaths. (SOURCE.) That's a disadvantage. If you don't think it's severe enough I suggest you load up and get out there and try to make it 50% or 60%. But if the "disadvantage" you're talking about involves the designers rolling in on fiery steeds carrying golden swords of divine justice and metting out punishments to those who act naughty well you can forget about it. It's not going to happen. rocket has made it absolutely clear. He would rather shut the project down entirely and walk away than add a system of arbitrary rules and punishments into the game. So if you really think the game NEEDS these things to be fun then I would just stop playing now because you aren't going to find satisfaction in DayZ.

If DayZ was Real, how would you act?

You're assuming the infection presents immediately. If it has a dormancy period of 6-12 months or more, it could easily spread far and wide from just a few initial infections. Spreading through "bites" is just another word for fluid transfer. This can occur in... other ways apart from biting. You're also ignoring the possibility the virus was started in multiple locations at once, perhaps as an act of bioterrorism gone wrong. Release it in the 25 most populous cities in the world simultaneously and things are going to go to shit pretty quickly. You overestimate the ability of emergency services to get something like this under control. They would be out-numbered and out-manned in no time at all. Hell, for all you know we're all already infected in the game it just hasn't taken over our systems yet... So you're absolutely fine. Unless someone has a pack of matches and lights your house on fire.

    Less ammo, matchs run out?

Ammo is still refilling itself magically when you log out. Lets fix that before we talk about how scarce ammo is in the game, because right now I don't think anyone has any idea how scarce some of it actually is. Logging out with 2/30 rounds in a STANAG clip and logging back in to a full clip accounts for a lot of the reason why people don't feel pressed for ammo at the moment.
  9. People often confuse "trolling" with "acting like an asshole." They look similar, I'll admit, but they're not the same thing. You didn't troll anyone, you just acted like an asshole and got called an asshole. Trolling requires a bit more subtlety and an actual attempt at humor.

How can you tell if someone is a bandit?

It's also a competitive PvP game at it's core. Refer to "What is DayZ?" This is basically a myth. Grouping up with random survivors was a mixed bag from the very beginning. Makarov (or Revolver) rampage murder was as likely as any result from approaching a random stranger back then. You could shout "friendly!" and they would say "Yes!" and then as soon as they saw you had a winchester that they wanted it was all "J/k lol blam blam." It's clearly not. Only 17% of all living players are bandits. And this number is falling daily. It was ~19% this same time last week. There are many incredible benefits to teamwork, and more coming. The problem is, most random strangers in the game don't make very good partners to be quite honest. They don't listen to reason, don't play tactically, aggro zombies left and right, give up my position constantly, and most recently the last group of strangers I grouped with (4 in Cherno) got confused during a shoot out, turned around and shot me in the face. Didn't even finish me off so I got to listen to their voice chat celebrations of "I got the guy! He was right over here!" while I slowly bled out on the ground... Then we all can sit around and wonder why I would rather group with people I already know and trust. In a real world scenario our primary focus would probably be planting crops and herding and breeding livestock. As it turns out, the real world doesn't make a very good game. That's kind of why games were invented in the first fucking place.

    I dont get this game

Two hours? Trying really hard not to make some cliche statement here about your "generation" because I'm sure not everyone your age (whatever that is) is quite so impatient. But two bloody hours, dude? And you're already on the forums? Get back out there, holy shit. The only thing you need to worry about right now is how not to make zombies angry. Practice that, worry about a weapon later. If you can figure out zombie aggro, the weapon part will be easy.
  13. Aww, cute. He thinks DayZ gives a flying fuck who is "better." Not everything is a test of your mad elite skills, I'm afraid. Some things just are the way they are no matter how "good" you are. Just like real life.

Any 1 else want the lee enfielt nerf?

DayZ doesn't exist in a fantasy land. We're not "buffing" and "nerfing" weapons. They are what they are. The Lee Enfield fires larger bullets with almost twice as much ballistic energy as the M4. So, no, it is not "bullshit" that it does more damage. The M4 has plenty of other benefits, not least of which being the ability to fire 900 rounds per minute. How can you tell if someone is a bandit?

If only there were some sort of system in place for classifying players based on their behavior!
  16. To everyone who continually returns to Stary Sobor because of an insatiable greed for gear despite knowing full-well that it is camped 98% of the time on 96% of servers by someone who need only press M2 followed by M1 to end your miserable existence, /irony congratulations. You have demonstrated less capacity for learning than you average lab rat.

    Bear Traps

I'm guessing the spawn rate is ridiculously, incredibly, astronomically low. Do you really think they would make them common given their potential and what they learned from the Barbed Wire/Tank Trap fiasco that they're still trying to clean up? I'm guessing they're rare enough that you could go weeks without finding one. Maybe months.

    Player Identification and Classification System

Thanks! I would really appreciate it if you could post links to any similar ideas you have found on the forums, especially if they pre-date mine. I searched pretty thoroughly before posting. There used to be one from HardTarget entitled "Hey, I know you!" but I think it got lost in the forum upgrade. Bummer. Also, any link to a post, interview or article in which someone on the dev team mentions a similar idea would be awesome.

    Zombies 1HITKO 2 people in 2 minutes

One time I was playing poker and I got pocket aces twice in a row. Weird stuff happens. Especially when you have a ton of people all playing the same game. Like, if something has a 0.0008% of occurring in any 24-hour period, that means it's likely going to happen to at least one of the 125k people playing DayZ.

Killing a Hobo Bandit Style M249's

The only thing sillier than robbing newbies is getting upset about it like it matters. Holy shit grow a pair. Dude lost a flash light and probably got a better spawn point anyway. That looked like Krutoy Cap. Worst spawn in the game. They did him a favor.
  21. 520,000 players. "To the guy who..." posts are literally the equivalent of posting "To the guy I walked past on the streets of Tuscon, AZ yesterday, fuck off asshole!" In other words, please stop. Nobody is listening.

DayZ - IP - BiStudio, Rocket or both?

It depends on what intellectual property you're talking about. It's kind of mixed up at this point. BI owns Chernarus and all the models and content therein, probably including rocket's zombies since those are based on existing ARMA models. rocket has copyright on his "original creation" which are, I guess, the code and script files which control things like spawn rates, loot spawns, and the zombie AI, path finding, etc. So, in essence, right now DayZ is very much shared. Although the majority probably belongs to BI for better or worse. Most of the content is their's. This relationship will likely continue. Even if DayZ becomes stand-alone, BI will be involved and rocket will probably never completely break away. To do so would mean developing a new game engine from scratch, which by rocket's own estimation would take approximately 20 years given his current team.

New DayZ player inbound. Any tips/hints?

Gah! Ignore all these people telling you to prepare ahead of time. You will have a much more intense and emotional experience if you just turn the lights down, turn the sound up and dive right in. You will make mistakes and die but the learning process will be way more fun and intense if you do it on your own in the game. Give it at least 3 days uncorrupted by outside guides and influences - then you can start checking maps and reading guides and playing single player to study the map/terrain, etc. Don't spoil your first few nights as a virgin. ;)
  24. Well, there you have it. Always a good sign when a post starts off with a crass ad hominem assault. This does not bode well for the rest of the post, but I'm going to give it a read and careful consideration anyway because that's the sort of bloke I am. Incidentally, you're right. My wife is not a genius; though, she is quite intelligent, an awesome cook, an incredibly loving mother and isn't above getting a bit freaky after a couple glasses of wine. So, I keep her around despite her faults. My IQ, on the other hand, registered 153 the last time I was tested. I believe that is well above the threshhold. I'm not sure why any of this is relevant, but since you brought it up I'm more than happy to share. If you remain motionless in the open long enough for your agressor to be assured a kill, then you have failed already. I have played this game for over 600 hours and I have been sniped exactly twice - once very early on when I crouched in a field to check my map, and again recently while I was foolishly looting an enemy tent in broad daylight on a ridgeline visible from over 1km in every direction. Two sniper deaths in 600+ hours. Why? Because I move quickly from cover to cover. I travel in dense forest whenever possible, and if I must cross through a field I do so at its most narrow point. I never stop to interact with my gear menu, read my map, or take any other action which would stop my movement for more than 500ms when I am in the open unless absolutely necessary. Even if I am losing blood to hunger or thirst I will wait until I reach a tree line, prone behind a rock and then eat, drink or check my map. Take responsibility for your own safety against snipers. Very, very few snipers in this game are skilled enough to hit a target at full sprint from more than 400m away. Don't stop moving and they will not have an opportunity to kill you. As for the "scrubs," are you purporting that this game has none? I would challenge that assertion. Scrubs, if being a bad sniper is what it takes to qualify, are very common in DayZ. In fact, I would argue that there are more scrubs than there are accomplished snipers. Especially on servers which do not have map waypoints or nametags which trivializes range finding and scope alignment. Okay, first you don't seem to understand what a strawman argument is, because that wasn't one. Second, even if you ignore the 40+ Day survival times, you can't ignore the fact that only 14% of deaths in the game are a result of murder. That doesn't strike me as very death-matchy. Are there other "deathmatch" games where 85%+ of the deaths result from NPCs or environmental hazards? I would be interested to learn of them and better understand exactly what your personal criteria are for determining whether a game is, in fact, a deathmatch. Okay. This is standard "it's Alpha" stuff, bud. More mechanics are coming. Be patient for them, or don't. Your call. Faster travel when searching for helicopter crashes. Ability to pick up friends on the coast when they spawn, getting together much faster. Huge storage space. Especially useful for other vehicle parts, fuel and extra backpacks. Can run over zombies. They're really fucking fun to drive. Members of the community also want quest hubs, and guard NPCs, and "boss zombies," and no-kill safe zones, and PvE servers and a host of other things that would rip out DayZ's soul and flush it down the toilet where it will come to rest with every other watered-down, casual-friendly online game that has been shoved down our throats for the last 15 years. I have every hope and confidence in rocket to ignore most of their pleas - even if that means limiting the audience to people who appreciate what he has created. Working together is the most rewarding aspect of the game. It should be difficult. Nothing worth having comes easily, right? That entirely depends on what your personal goal is in the game. If kill count is it, then yes. If never dying or losing your gear is it, then yes. If you want to actually have interesting experiences with other players then no, that is not the best strategy. Obviously. So decide what your goal is and start working on it. Survival isn't a worthwhile endeavor? Or are you seriously arguing that working together with other survivors doesn't improve your chances of living longer? Seriously? Please refer to this thread for a long list of why this is a completely silly argument. A partner is the most valuable thing you can have in the game. More powerful than any piece of equipment or gun. And on top of that, again, it's Alpha. More team work and cooperative elements are on the way. We all know this. Some of us are awaiting them patiently. Others... less so, apparently. 14%. Fourteen in every hundred deaths is a murder. I keep pointing this out. The murder rate is actually going down every day; and it will continue to fall, I expect, as new mechanics are added to support communication, squad identification and cooperative game play. Free-for-all deathmatch? Perhaps the reason you keep reading the same things from me is because I have to respond to the same asinine, baseless claims that get parroted here on the forums every day? Just a thought. Cheers for the post, though. Good read.

What kind of ammo does the AS50 take?

They're not caled "AS50 Mag," though. I think it's 12.7x99mm NATO or some such.
