I swear my tip is wet right now. Dripping, in fact. I can hardly wait. Please update this thread with a link when you get things up and running. Though, please also update it with an extensive apology if you fall flat on your face and this thread lives on as an embarrassing reminder of your failure. I for one have bookmarked it specifically, and plan to post here weekly. I expect you will update it each week with tons of new information about "project QUARANTINE." Please just let me know whenever you want me to stop pestering you for updates and the first Alpha build.

We stole your truck.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Over half-a-million people play this game. Thousands had their trucks stolen this very evening. Nobody knows who the fuck you're talking about. -
Consider an analogy. When you play poker you can play smart and tight, studying your opponents and waiting for an opportunity to take advantage of their weakness, or you can just go all out and push all your chips in every hand and hope for the best. Sometimes you will get lucky and come out a big winner, bust usually you will lose it all and end up back at the cage buying more chips. Whereas, the patient player will slowly make money over time. It will take longer and it requires less luck, but patience will pay off more often than not. People who run to Cherno/Elektro the moment they spawn are like the crazy players going all in every hand and praying. Sure they will get lucky once in awhile and come out with a "full set" of gear, but usually they're just going to get a face full of Winchester slugs for their bother. Your choice.

Umm, okay? No idea what is going on here or what this has to do with hackers? Care to clarify?

Welcome to the forums. This is already an MMO. You should post individual ideas in the suggestions forum. But, I suggest searching first.

Okay? If just "not quitting" is your only measure of success then you can pretty much just stand there doing fucking nothing and succeed. I would hope you would set higher standards for yourself than that. But, to be fair, you don't have to. That can be your goal if that's what you want. That's the true beauty of DayZ. Nobody tells you what "winning" means. You are the personal arbiter what measures of success you use. If being here at the end of Alpha is all you really care about, then that's your personal decision and your personal goal. I like to set myself to a higher standard - to actually try and test myself and achieve something. I'll be here at the end of Alpha, yes. But I'll also have a 60+ day survival w/ 2k zombie kills under my belt by then. Will you?
-
I said if your goal is to survive. Doing something "repeatedly" implies dying over and over again. In that case your goal is not survival. It's "getting a bunch of stuff." If just "getting shit" is your goal and you don't mind dying 45 times in the process, then yes. Fine. Run into Cherno ringing a fucking dinner bell and hope to get lucky offing some bored, geared-up choad smoker who probably duped the gear you're about to loot. That's not survival, though. That's just getting loot. Congratulations on dying 50 times and now you have a decent gun so your 51st death maybe takes a little longer. In the mean time I haven't died once and probably have comparable gear. So which one of us has been more successful? That depends on your measure for success obviously.

So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes. I've played CoD. I've also played every Halo and Battlefied. And honestly nobody has ever treated me any differently in those games than they do in pretty much any other game. There are assholes, sure; but there are also mostly decent players just out to have a good time playing a really good game. The "CoD kid" myth is just silly. Every game has assholes. Just like real life. School has assholes. Work has assholes. Your neighborhood has assholes. The world has assholes. Try spending less time standing completely still in the open in broad daylight. -
Yes. But for some reason you want to do that by having the designers remove the primary challenge standing between you and survival. Tell me, how is survival an accomplishment once the primary threat to said is removed entirely from the game? Are you proud of yourself for standing around shooting stationary cows and clicking a few menu items? What are your accomplishments worth if they're never under threat? What does survival mean if nobody is trying to take it away from you? You want something to be proud of? Something to look at and say "I have overcome. I have achieved."? Then survive in world where nearly everyone you do no trust would as soon see your entrails spilled out on the ground as loan you a canteen of water. Then you can say "I have done something of note." Then you can claim to have achieved something. Surviving in a world populated only by plodding, predictable, scripted AI zombies is no accomplishment. It is child's play. Are you a child? No? Then stop acting like it and get out there and live.

Player density? Yes. Loot density? No. All of the best loot is in the north. Helicopter crashes are far more common north of, say, Polana than they are south. And helicopters are the primary source of high-end loot. "Go north" is sage advice. Fewer people, more loot. If you want to survive while still gathering interseting loot your goals in the game from spawn should be: Get the fuck away from the coast. Keep getting the fuck away from the coast. Find a backpack, knife, matches, hatchet, map, compass. Find a decent gun. Meet up with a friend (you have at least one I hope, if not make one). Get at least one vehicle. Hunt for helicopters.

I also can't assemble a car with my bare hands. That doesn't mean I can't point out the difference between a BMW and a Geo Storm.

So anyone here NOT shoot at first sight?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Reidlos's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What's a "CoD kid?" Lots of people play CoD. Not all of them are kids. And what does any of it have to do with DayZ? Most people shoot on sight because the world has gone to shit. If you haven't established contact and determined the intentions of someone, then don't expose yourself to gunfire on their behalf. If you open yourself up and make yourself a target, don't be surprised when someone removes you from the equation. It's like when you're putting, see? And there's a leaf on the green between you and the hole. And you're like "You know, my ball probably won't hit that leaf and even if it does it's probably not going to significantly effect the trajectory to the point of turning a good putt into a miss but I'm going to get rid of it anyway because why not?" You're the leaf. So if you don't want to get smashed and scattered to the wind, then don't sit in the middle of the fucking green while someone is trying to putt, okay? -
Not to be contrarian but the blood effects in that second video are pretty awful. It looks more like red vegetable oil on glass than blood on stone.

Controversial Topic: BANDITRY IS DEAD.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The video in the OP is a gimmick. It was never the norm. Nobody ever does this on a regular basis. It's theatre. To says "it's dead" is to say it ever lived in the first place. It's a farce. You're decrying the loss of something that never existed and using it as an excuse to discuss penalizing PvP for 4 pages... This type of robbery is a completely unnecessary risk on the part of the bandit. It makes no sense whatsoever in any context other than making an interesting Youtube video that lots of people might watch. Holding it up as some kind of gold standard of banditry is ridiculous. Silly thread full of silly folk. -
Controversial Topic: BANDITRY IS DEAD.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Murder and banditry rates are both down, and life expectancy is up since bandit skins were removed. So, no. As long as you're willing to except "some sort of delibitating psycholigcal effect" for not killing bandits regularly, then fine. If you want bandits to be harrowed psycholigically for what they're doing in the world, then you should be equally effected for your inability to stop them. Are you too weak to stand in their way? Not man enough to stand up to them and the effect they're having in the world? Prone in the weeds when you could be standing and facing them on the field of battle? That would take it's toll, wouldn't it? Eventually you would start to question your huamnity. Question your dedication to the human race. Question wheter you were doing all you could to save mankind. And if you don't? If you fail to kill even a single bandit? Then you start to flounder. Start to question yourself. Start to wonder if you have what it takes... Psycholigical effects swing both ways. If you want to punish bandits, be prepared to accept your own form of punishment. -
Bizon if you have partners with you with more firepower. If you're alone or nobody else with you has a similar gun, then the FN FAL is superior in almost every way - range, power, accuracy, ammunition availability, etc.

It has most definitely been helpful. The first night of the wipe my team acquired a new pick-up, motorcycle and two new bicycles. -
This game won't be popular at release

It has more concurrent players than SWTOR at the moment, and they spent, what, like 500 million on marketing for that game? Give or take? New world order. -
Thinks he's better than other people. Uses "fag" like it's no big deal. Uh-huh. I think I've got you pegged. Fucking mouth-breather. Crawl back in whatever hole you crawled out of. [i have been warned for this post - Ubi]

Revolvers don't use magazines... M1911's don't use magazines... You take the bullets out of one gun and put them in another. -
[UPDATED] Weekly Stats, PvP Trends
ZedsDeadBaby replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're not confused, I just took the stats at 10AM on the 14th whereas I took them at 3PM on the 7th. That's why I didn't make any mention of it in my analysis (as it wasn't really relevant at the time). Go look at the 24h stat now. See?. 136k and climbing. And this 24h cycle isn't over yet. Neat, huh? It has gone up pretty much every day between the 7th and today, so yeah. I mean attribute it to whatever you want if it makes you feel better. It's not the patch. 30%? Stats you pull out of your ass are so much stinkier than ones that are based on actual numbers. -

ZedsDeadBaby replied to mkrrr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's really generous of you to start your post with the ridiculously asinine bullshit statement that is proven demonstrably false just by a quick glance at the front page stats that are available on this very website. It helps those of us who weren't sure about the rest of your textwall kind of get a sense of where you're coming from. "Is this guy talking about something that actually exists or occurs in reality, or is he a ridiculous choad that's just pulling a bunch of random bullshit statements out of his ass with no basis in reality?" That's the question I ask myself each time I click on a new thread, and you were nice enough to answer it clearly in the first sentence. No surprise though every post I've read from you has been a pile of steaming shit. -
47 Day old wanting to upgrade from the stable 1.7.1.5 to the new 1.7.2.3.. Some questions
ZedsDeadBaby replied to -Cdn-Chard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"47-Days old and doing nothing to help test. Tell me when the testing is over so I can come play!" Ridiculous. By the way the L85 is coming back (good thing, too). -
[UPDATED] Weekly Stats, PvP Trends
ZedsDeadBaby replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nah. First of all, that's not even really true - the game has seen a constant influx of new players 10k+ per day every day for a long time. It is accelerating, but not so much that 7/7 was somehow a different demographic. Second, how does that make my analysis "incorrect?" I clearly acknowledge the presence of new players and discuss how, if the game were in the state that people claim, this would actually increase the murder and banditry rates, not decrease them. Uhh, what? Why would they be counted? The analysis is determining what the rates of PvP are in the game. Players who are not playing aren't relevant to that analysis. You seem to just be kind of confused about what claims I've made. That wouldn't be a counter argument? That's exactly the argument I'm making. You really are confused... Yup. Life expectancy has gone up. So that's pretty much expected. Don't see how it's relevant to the analysis I was doing. Whatever it is, we can assume it is being calculated in the same way this week as it was last week, so I don't have to know precisely what that population is to calculate a downward trend in the number, which shows that no matter what the precise meaning, activity is decreasing, not increasing with respect to PvP related deaths. At worst my "total deaths" value is off, but then it would be off in both tables and the trend would remain, which is the important point - not whether the numbers are 100% accurate but that they are trending in a particular direction.
