How to end Ganking, and support Honor [ v ]
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Arainasc's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
DayZ is full from coast-to-coast with braindead, drooling, bloodthirsty zombies who exist for no other reason but to murder you. They have a singular, mindless purpose and no rhyme or reason to their behavior. They will not communicate with you or respond to your attempts to communicate with them. Once they see you, they will hunt you down and stop at nothing to spill your blood. Awesome! Sounds like an amazing game! I can't wait to play. Where do I sign up? I'm so excited! Oh, by the way, it also has braindead, drooling, bloodthirsty players who exist for no other reason but to murder you. They have a singular, mindless purpose and no rhyme or reason to their behavior. They will not communicate with you or respond to your attempts to communicate with them. Once they see you, they will hunt you down and stop at nothing to spill your blood. What the fuck? That sounds awful! These dicks are ruining the game and the community and how can anyone enjoy a game when stuff like this goes on? This game is going to be a complete failure unless we fix this now! ^^ This is literally what you people believe. And yes, it makes you look very silly. -
Pvp, PvE, DM and so forth...........
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Playing DayZ without PvP would be like trying to eat a peanut butter & jelly sandwich without the bread. You might still manage to get a little in your mouth, but it's not going to be very satisfying. -
Are Helicopters going to be added again?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to l5p4ngl312's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes! It will be such a sought after prize. Squads and clans will be stumbling over themselves to work on repairing what is essentially a flying fucking death trap that will tumble out of the sky in a tangle of flaming bodies and molten metal at the first sign of an M249. I know when I play I think to myself "Gee, this game would be so much better if only there were some way I could stuff every single one of my friends into a metal box and then fling them into the sky for all to see and shoot at, virtually guaranteeing their horrible deaths." Like, why shouldn't they have a means to defend themselves? I'm genuinely having trouble seeing the basis for this arbitrary distinction. -
Kicking of Players for Clan members
ZedsDeadBaby replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
You showed up on Page 13 of 14 and made no attempt to respond cogently to any of the points that have been made in the thread, leastwise rocket's. Your posts are semi-literate, abusive and insubstantial. You are obviously more interested in attention than input or participating in a discussion. If you're interested in closing an open argument, then respond to it coherently. Counter the argument I made with your own. Clearly the reason you "care not" for the argument is because it is obviously true and you have no reasonable response to it, so you would prefer to ignore it and return to your latest stream of verbal diarrhea. The very fact that people just like you could, at this very moment, be helming DayZ servers makes me even more grateful that rocket has taken it upon himself to implement such strict guidelines to keep your ridiculous sense of entitlement and empowerment in check. I look forward to continued and increased efforts to enforce the rules. Cheers! :beans: -
Are Helicopters going to be added again?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to l5p4ngl312's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm glad you acknowledge that it's your opinion because to me this seems like a completely silly and arbitrary distinction to make. Every vehicle in the game takes me away from the zombies - none of them can be out run. Likewise most players are powerless to stop me - really only fear the SAW and AS50/M107. And what can you possibly have against mounted weapons? Again, seems like such an arbitrary distinction to make... Personally, I would absolutely love to roll up on a town full of zombies and unsuspecting survivors with one of these, call me crazy: -
Increase pvp difficulty so its actually takes skill.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to jupsto's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
"Yes" to better 3D sound! Good call. Otherwise, a big fat "no" to the rest of this ridiculous bullshit. 3rd person and crosshairs applies to everyone on the server so they offer no advantage. If you don't like them, play on different servers. Not even going to dignify the "sacrifice realism in terms of weapon damage" with a response because I will probably end up with another warning from a moderator for the names I end up calling you in the process.- 24 replies

THIS CANT BE TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
ZedsDeadBaby replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, yeah. Shit happens, man. I once spent all day repairing a pick-up truck that needed every single part. I did it on my own, on foot, without server hopping. It took 8+ hours. Then I put all my worldly possessions inside the truck. Then the server restarted and when it came back the truck had moved 10 feet to the left and was stuck inside a tree. When I got it, it exploded in a fireball and killed me instantly, destroying all my gear in the process. Know what I did? Kept playing. Keep your chin up. You will be fine I promise. -
Taking away even more access to our servers?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Good riddance. Admins who do it for "power" are one of the biggest problems the game faces right now. Go away so your server can be replaced by someone less interested in wielding power over people and more interested in participating in the development of DayZ and providing a stable, reliable test environment. -
Except, you know, the fact that life expectancy has gone up and murder and banditry rates down since they were removed. Don't let me intrude on your forum fantasyland, though. Bandit skins are gone for good. Better systems for player categorization have been proposed. Stop asking for their return. It's not going to happen. Ever.

THIS CANT BE TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
ZedsDeadBaby replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This thread is genuinely heartwarming. rocket said he wanted to create a game that wasn't always fun and sometimes frustrated and confounded players. Mission accomplished, rocket. Mission accomplished. As for you, OP, scoop that stanky mess out of your diaper, pull on a fresh one and get back out there! -
Realistic idea: Cherno/Elektro Deathmatch servers for the cod kids?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Gruelius's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh, look. This thread again. The classic "My reasons for killing are acceptable and laudable and honorable and your reasons for killing are childish and mindless and immature." Ridiculous hogwash. Killing for survival doesn't exist. Food, water and medical supplies are plentiful and there are always safer, more reliable means to acquire them than killing. Killing in self-defense is okay, right? But defense requires offense. Someone has to attack you first, so self-defense is predicated upon the existence of people who just kill for sport. Your reasons for killing are no different than theirs. In a word: fun. Just because you use different tactics and do it on the north side of the map instead of the south side doesn't make you a better person. Now carefully slide down off that high horse (try not to break a leg) and get back in the game so this asinine waste of a thread can die. -
Communication/identification between/of survivors
ZedsDeadBaby replied to randomizer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There are already hacks to do that. :( -
Oh, relax sweety. So dramatic. I was simply illustrating via a colorful story that just seeing me isn't going to win a battle. There are considerations beyond optics that determine how powerful or useful a weapon is in a battle. Though, to be fair, I would most definitely shoot you if we met in game. Not sure why that's "pathetic." No, I didn't say "crap." I said it was out-ranged and out-powered by other weapons. Which is true. That's not up for debate: it has a 300m effective range and moderate power. Yup, exactly. Sounds like an amazing piece of tactical play and great team work. Would be really fun to participate in this battle. No, it doesn't. The L85 doesn't penetrate walls or thick foliage. If you can see a player with the L85 then you can almost always see them with binoculars or a rifle scope. With the exception of ghillie snipers prone in weeds! Imagine that. You are overstating the effectiveness of the thermal scope which honestly makes me think you've never used one.

Just a friendly note, not everyone reads the forum on a black background. ;)

I have two open suggestion threads you might be interested in. First, is a robust system of player identifcation and classification. This allows players to "tag" other players in the game after making a successful visual identification (by being close enough to see the person in question). It is intended to be a more immersive, authentic version of the "bandit skin" which allows players themselves to take control of the labels they apply to other players. Second, a simpler suggestion for accessories to assist in squad identification. I would appreciate your feedback in these threads.

Thanks. I've added a link to this thread in mine (assume you don't mind)! -
You mean like another L85?

Communication/identification between/of survivors
ZedsDeadBaby replied to randomizer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not to self-promote too much, but I think my system works a little better. You shouldn't have to "agree" to be seen by me. If I look at your face I should be able to remember it (in game terms, label you) without necessarily having your consent. In fact, you shouldn't even necessarily know that I saw you. This would allow you to identify both friends AND foes - a much more robust system and one that goes a long way toward solving people's complaints about not knowing who is who or what peoples' intentions are. -
Why isnt this fixed yet? (ALT F4)(HACKERS)
ZedsDeadBaby replied to missingman11's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You were hungry. I saw you eat an apple. Why do you prioritize eating apples over curing cancer? Cancer is a much more important problem so stop eating and fucking find a cure already! You lazy jerk! Which is to say, priorities are influenced by considerations other than "what's the biggest problem facing us right now?" I'm sure since you're commenting so heatedly on the subject that you have managed large software projects before and understand this, right? -
The L85 has a thermal scope. To the OP, if you feel the L85 is "OP" then I suggest you go find one and put it's "P" to good use. I also invite you to look at me through the scope. The muzzle flash from my saw will look pretty on the thermal right before I tear you in half at the torso like piece of soft licorice. Okay? That's kind of arbitrary. Sounds like an interesting battle to me. The L85 doesn't have long range, and it's power doesn't compare to some other weapons. It's a good scouting tool but it's not going to win a battle. There are plenty of weapons that out-range it and plenty more that have more power. It's really not a problem. OP is just a little scared, that's all. It also nullifies snipers sitting in the tree line waiting for you to step out of your cover. In other words it is an effective counter-measure against many common tactics in the game. Exactly the sort of equipment a tactical game needs. "It's powerful, take it out!" is such a vapid argument. Where does it end? We will all be throwing rocks and spitting at each other when you're done.

Taking away even more access to our servers?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Surely DayZ will die if you can't prune your logs. :P Seriously, just getting silly at this point. The hacker issue is not going to be solved by checking logs on individual servers. Let the professionals handle it. Banning them one IP at a time is like trying to put out a housefire with a squirt gun. Thanks for your contributions, every little bit helps, but honestly you're probably safer just putting the gun down and standing behind the guy with the big hose, okay? If pride in contributing to the Alpha development of one of the most unique and amazing games in the past 15 years and the ability to stand up one day and say "I helped build this" is not incentive enough for you, then fine. Let your server die. Others will take its place. What other "incentive" are you referring to? Because I can't think of anything else that doesn't qualify as abuse or gaining an unfair advantage over other players in the game (e.g., locking for friends). -
Kicking of Players for Clan members
ZedsDeadBaby replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Except that's not what anyone's saying. Admins are allowed to kick whoever they want whenever they want. They just can't do that and also run a hive-connected DayZ server. Renting or owning a server gives you rights to that server. It doesn't give you rights to do whatever the fuck you want with a hive-connected version of DayZ. How is this not obvious? It's really not rocket science (yuck yuck). I haven't seen a decent analogy in 5 pages so here's one: You rent an apartment. The apartment is yours to do with as you wish. But, you don't have any furniture so you ask to borrow rocket's couch. He says "Okay, but only for sitting and sleeping." You agree and take the couch. The next day rocket stops by and finds you filming an all-out, balls-loose, sweat-soaked hardcore anal sex scene on his couch. He says "Hey, this is not what we agreed! I want my couch back." And then you go "WHAT THE FUCK? WHO ARE YOU TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH THIS COUCH? I PAID FOR THIS APARTMENT I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT IN IT." Yeah. No. Your apartment. Not your fucking couch. Get it fucking straight. This whole thread is fucking ridiculous. -
It's a server setting. If you can see yourself on the map (little blue circle) then you will also be able to see zombies (orange), other players and vehicles. The behavior is unpredictable and the range is odd. Sometimes it seems to be only a few hundred meters but I have absolutely confirmed a vehicle on my map from over 1000m away. My advice is to avoid these servers. It's hard enough to keep a camp without people being able to spy it through the trees from a mile off.

PvE servers now available.

OP can you direct me to the advertisements you are talking about which were misleading? Or the "tin" which listed the features of the game you are referring to? You can't, because those things don't exist. You're not talking about advertisements you read or a "feature list" that said this game was all about zombie survival. You're talking about your own personal preconceived notions that you cooked up when you read the name and saw the game had zombies in it. Your brain said "Oh, this must be XYZ," but your brain was wrong. That's your brain's fault, eh? The first day I learned about DayZ I watched a few videos, read articles and every interview with rocket and you know what every single one said? Even the fluff pieces on gaming sites? It said "Be aware that PvP will play a central role in this game and you will find yourself dying to players as often as zombies." That line was repeated in almost every piece of DayZ-related media I ever encountered and repeated by rocket himself. So if you came into the mod expecting it to be focused solely on zombie survival with "maybe a little bit of PvP sometimes" then you have only yourself and your own preconceptions to blame. Nobody bait-and-switched you. Nobody lied to but your own expectations. That's not the game's fault and it's certainly not rocket's. At the end of the day, only 16.5% of deaths are PvP related. So regardless of the clamor and clap on the forums, the game is clearly more than just PvP or a "deathmatch." Most people are dying to zombies or environmental hazards most of the time. Even if you allow 10% for bugs and glitches (which is probably high) then you still 75% of the player deaths to zombies. (These stats do not include respawns before you get your little reply fingers typing). So it is about zombie survival. And so far people aren't proving too good at it, are they? 35 minute average life expectancy? You fancy yourselves survivors so get out there and get that fucking number up already. PvP isn't what is keeping it down. Ultima Online and EVE are the only other two online games in history that have taken PvP seriously in a persistent world, and DayZ is the only one that has gone the step further of introducing permanent death. It is literally unique, and in just a few short months this unique approach has captured the attention of more players than SWTOR has managed to keep with hundreds of millions in advertising dollars. That's something amazing. And it's not all about the zombies. If it were, we would all be playing Dead Island or Left 4 Dead. Instead, we're playing DayZ. Why? Is it the glitches and bugs keeping us interested? The odd zombies with their ability to attack through walls? No. It's the intensity. The emotion. The stress and the heart-pounding moments that result from interactions with other players in the game. All of which are uncertain and some of which are horribly violent. If DayZ didn't have unrestricted PvP it would just be another zombie knock-off. It would have absolutely nothing special or new to offer that hasn't been done before and it would fall flat on its face in the dirt before it ever got off the ground. With all due respect, which is exactly zero, I have never seen you make a post in these forums that wasn't tearing down the game or whining about its features, and doing so in a completely insubstantial way. I might be able to entertain your presence if the things you said were in any way connected to reality and not just some fevered forum fantasy you have been bandying about for weeks (or has it been months now)? Ever since the bandit skin was removed and you insisted the game was going to devolve into an all-out deathmatch you haven't shut your yap about it. Yet, fewer bandits are in the game now as a percentage of the population. Murder rates are down, and PvP deaths as a percentage of total are falling. Your complaints are vacuous, vapid and unconstructive. Why are you even still here? Pick your ass up and go play a different game already.
