Player names do not unique identify players. They can be any string. Most hackers use ' ' as their name. Besides, it's completely silly to suggest a fundamental alteration of the game design simply to let you nab a hacker every once in awhile. You shouldn't know who killed you. You're dead. If you want to find out, travel with friends and when you die your friend can kill your assailiant and study the body. Much more immersive solution, no? If you die alone then tough shit. -
Respawn deaths are not counted in the stats.

THEY are not paying for DayZ. They are paying for a server. You're really going to go around in circles with me on this? You have every right to do whatever you want with the server you purchase or rent. It is yours and you have full control over it. That has exactly nothing to do with DayZ and what your rights are with respect to the mod. You are not renting DayZ. You are not paying for DayZ. The only price of DayZ is adherence to the rules. You are renting the server - and can do whatever you want with it. But your rights to run DayZ will continue to be governed by the rules of DayZ hosting. I have explained this to you already, and used a very illustrative analogy to clarify the difference. Take a moment and re-read my previous post and give it some genuine consideration this time. Honestly. What's being "asked for" is irrelevant. Server owners are already kicking everyone off of servers to hoard items and vehicles. It is already happening. Go read the Server General or Cheat Report forums (or just go try to join a few servers with < 10 players online, it won't take you long to find one that autokicks). And you want to make this practice acceptable? MORE common? Ugh, eww, and phooey. -

rocket has specifically said he is not interested in realism. Why? To avoid ridiculously circular, go-nowhere discussions precisely like the one that's currently taking place in this thread. So feel free to keep running each other around in logical circles all day, but nobody of import is listening. The game will not be balanced and it will not strive for realism in all areas. If items and weapons are powerful, use them to your advantage. -

Because private servers break DayZ. Why is that such an incredibly difficult concept? You can't develop a cruel, harsh, punishing and uncertain world if people just fill it with their friends and neighbors. That doesn't work. The game breaks. It's not DayZ anymore. Why would he pour all of this effort into creating a game specifically to create an experience, and then immeidately develop a server hosting strategy that undermines the entire design? By reading your reply, I assume that you've never been to these forums before. This issue is well known. The developers have responded. There are many posts every day on the topic. Some of them are reasonable and respectful. Others make ridiculously asinine claims like "the game is unplayable" which add nothing to the conversation and don't help the developers track down the issue. It's needless drama in an attempt to garner attention. Notice the sticky at the top that advises posters to search before posting? Hackers are a problem. Everyone knows it. They're working on it. The issue is not so bad as to make the game unplayable. In 600+ hours I have seen one hacker. So, spare me your righteous indignation, please. -

Please release this fix silently! Let word get out by way of exploiters dying en masse. These people are alive today only because of this exploit, so it is only fitting that some of them forfeit their lives when it is fixed. It will restore some balance to the DayZ universe. -

I would say let's let him focus on actually fixing the issue rather than running around frantically trying to stamp out fires. I'm not against enforcing the rules, I just think in this case the best method of enforcement is just to fix the database commits so that reboots don't "roll back" the game state. -

I know; I normally wouldn't comment except that OP himself has personally participated in the threads in question so searching isn't even necessary and is also one of the vocal minority flaming server providers for adhering to the DayZ dev team's rules for hosting. -

This was certainly worthy of a new thread. This topic has most definitely not been covered thorughly and to conclusion in other threads that you yourself actively participated in. -
The game is getting like ~20,000 new players per day. Each of those people probably spawn and run to the nearest town and die at least 5-10 times each before starting to change their play pattern. So you're talking about 100,000-200,000 deaths every day that are probably in the area of 5-15 minutes. It takes a lot to offset that kind of volume... For example, if you have one 80 hour survival (4800 minutes) and 99 10 minute survivals, that gives you an average of 33.95 minutes. So not hard to see why the number stays so low.

Is that really a question? If people didn't want to break the rules, the rules wouldn't have to exist in the first place. People have provided information about the commands you want to learn. Your continued insistence on pressing the issue makes it clear that you had more in mind than just "testing." Like finding a vehicle and some supplies before opening your server to the public, maybe?

Oh, hogwash. It takes like 2-3 murders to become a bandit, and 24+ hours to work that status off again. Any more kills and your status sticks for a long time. If people are killing other players with any regularity at all, they will be bandits. Period. You don't get to write off the stats just because they don't happen to match up with your assumptions and preconceptions. The vast majority of players in the game are survivors. That's an inarguable fact.

I really don't think you need to be prescient to come across a crash site at the NWAF. The flattest, most heavily-populated area of the game.

If you had truly figured out the magic, you wouldn't have to stash your gear in order to have a little fun. You wouldn't be afraid to lose your things and have to go through the process of collecting them again. Some of the most interesting things in the game happen to you when you're struggling early on to find equipment, weapons and supplies. So I say to you, no, you didn't figure it out. You're still confused. You're too worried about gear and you think it really matters that you have a "fall back" set of equipment when really you're just cheating yourself out of the fun of gearing up again after death. Stop worrying about having stuff. Try to enjoy getting it instead.
