    The temporary status icons

The current icons are obviously gross and ugly, but the idea behind an icon that changes color makes sense to me. Sadly, the mod had a pretty decent system. For some reason rocket decided he didn't like icons. I hope he's finally had a change of heart on the subject.

The Alpha NEEDS a SUICIDE option!

    > Say you want Suicide because you're getting "stuck in geometry." > Actually just want to use it to hop around to the spawn points you like.

    Vehicles and Tents

Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but this is a really bad one.
  4. There is reason. Some servers are not white listed yet and do not save character progress. Also, if a server loses it's connection to the hive, your progress will be lost. rocket has commented on the issue. Just because I don't want to restart on the beach every time I play the game doesn't mean I'm overly "attached" to my gear. It's really hard to play with friends (or do anything at all, test or otherwise) when every time you login you're standing on the beach. These threads could really do with a little bit less of this asinine "advice."

    When are the cars coming?

How is vehicle damage inappropriate for DayZ? You know the only thing more annoying than "new players" who come up with bad ideas from other games? Veterans who think any idea that didn't come from rocket is a bad one. Vehicle degradation was already in DayZ mod. Why would having it visible be a bad thing? Think for a second before you respond with asinine shit like this.

<<<< [How to] Improve random player killing. >>>>

Correct. This would make me far more prone to shooting random strangers. I'm not going to risk having some random jagoff around me if my death is going to be an even larger penalty. So, maybe this works for some people but I believe for many it would have the opposite affect. The safest I feel is when I'm with trusted friends or alone. If I see someone I don't know and I have a ton of "skills" on the line, I'm going to shoot them even faster, and put a couple extra bullets in them just to make sure they're dead. Absolutely never going to happen. Friendly NPC's who encourage a particular play style by defending good players from bad players will never, ever be in DayZ. rocket has very explicitly said he has no intention of ever doing anything like this, and I'm glad. If you want to set up a "survivor camp" then get some friends together and go do it yourself. Communication is great and obviously a priority. Radios are already planned, and hand signals have been vastly improved over the mod. Direct communication works better, too. Also, one thing people don't quite realize yet but the availability of the wide variety of head and face wear in the game is actually a communication tool. All your friends should wear the same or similar hats/facemasks so you can quickly recognize each other in a firefight or when you get separated. As for "safe trade," I don't know what you mean. If you mean some means to trade with zero risk, then nope. Definitely not. Interacting with other people should always carry some risk. See above RE: no. If you want to make settlements, you're going to have to do it yourself. NPC's aren't going to come to anyone's aid in DayZ. Killing a bandit does provide a benefit. No more bandit. If you want a "bounty hunting" system you're going to have to figure out how to do it yourself. Dog tags or identifiable body parts are a good idea, but you will have to turn them over to other players, not magical NPCs who have infinite rewards to hand out. Pretty much anything you want NPC's to do the answer is going to be the same: figure out a way for players to do it. unless rocket has vastly changed his plans for the game, NPC's are not going to be a part of DayZ. If they are, they're sure as hell not going to be protecting you or handing out goodies to reward your good behavior. Are you psychic? No? Then no. How about no? I think this is the plan, but honestly I don't really like it. I should be able to be an evil murdering asshole in one life and a Hero in the next. Different survivors, different stories. My past actions should only impact my current life. Yeah! And what if these places had "bosses" who dropped "epic loot" and required a bunch of players to band together to form a "raid" and, uhh, sorry I puked on my shoes while I was typing that.
  7. Yes, there is. That's not really relevant. There was a performance issue, so it was temporarily disabled. It wasn't turned off "because it's an alpha."

    Cannibalism?

Because the other idea was obscure weapon functionality to accomplish something that can already be accomplished. If you want to torture newbies to death, you can already do it in a variety of ways. We don't need Russian roulette. Period. Cannibalism is a pretty unique feature and a new way to harvest resources. It adds a dynamic to the game that doesn't exist yet.
  9. Run to the next town and eat some fruit, mate. Jesus. Relax.

    Combat Logging . . .

It's not even a conversation worth having. rocket has acknowledged it's an issue and has even implemented a fix. It's just not deployed yet. He will deploy it when it's ready to be deployed. Yes, it's annoying when people combat log but who gives a shit? Making sure you get all your kills nice and tidy is not important right now. If someone combat logs on you, just move on and do something else.

    Cannibalism?

Is it in the game yet? No? So obviously they're not focusing on it at the moment. Thanks for the completely pointless sarcasm though.
  12. ZedsDeadBaby

    Cannot report.

What are you trying to put in for the product version? It doesn't require the entire string with .'s and all, just the last bit.
  13. Is KoS worse than torturing people to death? I don't understand what this post even means. I would rather be shot than be forced to play Russian roulette for 15 minutes and killed anyway.
  14. ZedsDeadBaby

    Cannibalism?

Okay. Cannibalism isn't about compensating for a lack of supplies (which is completely artificial anyway). It's about adding interesting features to the game that create uncomfortable human interactions. You know. The point to DayZ.
  15. ZedsDeadBaby

    Cannibalism?

    Why not?
  16. ZedsDeadBaby

    Make the backpack a container

That sounds ridiculously clunky and unnecessary.
  17. I think you have enough ways to torture newbies, mate. Let's focus on things that matter.
  18. ZedsDeadBaby

    Rinse repeat

I'm not sure what your point is. If you're bored with this, do something else. Run to Berezino and NE Airfield. I haven't seen another player in either on any server yet. Zelonogorsk is also pretty empty. Join clan and do something interesting. Or go play something else for a few weeks.

    SA needs more story.

No, I'm talking about artifacts. News clippings, photographs, journals with partial entries, radios with recordings we could listen to, things like that. Not a "quest line" you have to play through but just bits and pieces you come across in your travels that remind you of the reality of the situation. This place you're now skulking around for tuna cans used to be someone's home. Kids used to play in this yard. A wife hung laundry from this line. That HMMV you found wrecked had soldiers in it, and they had families. The end of the world shouldn't be so anonymous and cold is my point. It should feel like it used to be a real place, and real places have stories.

    SA needs more story.

Another really amazing thing would be to see pictures of Chernarus before the outbreak. How much incredible drama would it add if you could see what Chernogorsk looked like prior to the disaster? Regular citizens in the streets, shopping at the grocery store, fishing on the shore, being happy... it would definitely enhance the atmosphere for me to have tangible bits and pieces left over from the real, breathing humans who used to make their lives where we now struggle to survive. Even just seeing a family photo on the night stand while I'm looting a house would make me stop and think about the people who used to live there. "Gee, they look really happy in that picture. Now they're dead." This kind of reflection on the reality of an apocalypse is so perfect for DayZ, because it's not Resident Evil. It's not arcade zombies. These are real people who had real lives and now we have to shoot them in their heads and that's really fucked up. People should be constantly reminded of how fucked up it is that we're basically slaughtering sick humans every day and pretending it's not big deal.

    SA needs more story.

In fairness, I think the plan was to have more backstory. Players should create the story moving forward, yes, but it would be cool if we could discover bits and pieces that reveal more about what's going on. How did we get here? What's going on? How long has it been since the outbreak? What was the military doing here and why was it unsuccessful? What's the deal with Green Mountain? Is the same thing happening everywhere else in the world? How are they faring compared to Chernarus? There's a lot of unanswered questions. More to it than just "Your story" kind of stuff.

    Ocean sound

Posts like this would be really great if they came with links so people could vote up the corresponding bug report without searching the issue DB.

    The game needs nametags

Not quite. Just because you recognize my face doesn't mean you know my name. If you want to discuss a system whereby YOU can assign a tag to me based on our previous encounters, let's talk. I suggested such a system over a year ago. Just keep in mind when you die you forget everything you've seen and will no longer recognize anyone. Hope that works for you since you're so interested in countering the realism argument. :D

"Must have's" when vehicles are implemented.

Considering it is now the DayZ engine, if it does not support it it certainly could and should. There are no technical limitations, as such - if you can turn the camera and see what's behind you then the dev team can implement mirrors.

    Places for Millitary Loot

The grocery store in Zelonogorsk has been replaced by a nice little military compound.
