So is this the beginning of the end for the Dayz mod?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Jock McScottish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wouldn't mind seeing the servers continue to run, but I really hope the developers don't waste any time on the mod. They've got enough on their hands with the SA and that's what matters. -
How to change a KOS'er mentality?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to blurhitz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How to change a KOS'er mentality? Step 1: Stop trying to tell me how to play the game, Sherlock. If I want to KoS, I'm going to. -
Third person view removal from SA discussion
ZedsDeadBaby replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
Third person is fine. If you give me a game with impeccable sound that lets me hear other people breathing and footsteps, as well as more effective leans and some way to simulate peripheral vision, I'll concede 3rd person removal. Until then, nah. Third person compensates for the lack of other senses. FPS view is not realistic to human perception. I'm not weirdly limited to viewing a box in front of me in real life. Sure, I can't float above myself either but if someone's running down the street on the other side of a wall to me, I can gauge their relative position and speed just based on sound. The game needs some way to recreate this perception, and right now 3rd person view is the best you can do. -
Okay, then no need for DayZ to fill that niche, eh? If you want a PvE zombie killing and loot collection game it sounds like you already have an option.

My issue with this game... Same as DayZ Mod.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to MrTryme's topic in General Discussion
Filter servers by ping. Don't play on anything > 50. That said, it's a networked game and will never be perfect. -
I'm pretty sure he has never said anything of the sort. You WANT rocket to want this game to be a "post apocalyptic zombie survival simulation" but those aren't his words. What he did say is "Go Solo, team up with friends or take on the world as you choose." Get it? As I choose. Not as YOU choose, but me. I get to decide. And, point of order, he HAS said that he hates people who complain about "CoD players" ruining the game, because he actually really likes CoD and thinks it's a great game and that people need to stop blaming their problems on it.

Server hopping is killing this game FAST
ZedsDeadBaby replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
That's a ridiculously harsh solution in both cases. My kid wakes up screaming and I've got to wait 3 minutes to log out? 15 seconds is more than sufficient. -
Yes, things will change in that the harder it gets to survive, the more often a lot of people are going to KoS. If it's harder to survive, then my friends and I will be more protective of our survival timers and less likely to risk contact with strangers. This notion that as the game gets harder people are going to get friendlier is really misguided in my opinion. A stranger is never going to be an asset to me. I have friends I play with and I don't want to play with random nutjobs I bump into in the game. If they can't stay out of my way, I'll take them out of my way.

KoS has been pretty much steady since like three weeks after the mod came out, and it has nothing to do with Call of Duty or Battlefield players. Both of those are great games in their own right; pretending you're a "different sort of person" than them because they play those games is pretty silly. If the wanted to play CoD or BF they would just go play them. It's a major issue with this community that people seem to think their way of playing the game is the One True Way and everyone else is a corrupting force out to ruin their fun. Honestly if KoS wasn't a "problem," the game would have gotten boring by like June of 2012. Run around, gather food, shoot zombies in the head. Hooray! Survival in the face of the game mechanics is dead simple. Surviving the mass of players trying to murder you is what really makes the game difficult, intense and entertaining. rocket understands this, and that's why he has stood his ground on the belief that players should be the #1 threat in the game. I say find ways to make KoS more common so that we have more reason to band together and protect ourselves against the murderers.

Changed Servers: Might as well of died.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Romulus (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
While perhaps true at the time, this is probably because those servers were new. Once they get white-listed, they will have access to the hive like all the other servers. The most important thing is to play on servers that have existed for at least, like, 24 hours or so. New servers are the problem. -
KoS is prevalent because: 1) It's fun. 2) I don't want to play with, around or near strangers and killing them is the best way to accomplish that. PvE servers? Not in a million, trillion years. Maybe private hives where some carebear admin hands out bans, but that's your only hope. If you don't like PvP your solution is to not play games that have PvP as a primary mechanic.

Changed Servers: Might as well of died.
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Romulus (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's a common issue apparently to do with a server's ability to remain connected to the hive. Also, some servers have not yet been "white-listed" and so they will not have permission to access the hive yet and will not store your progress (or be able to retrieve your data from the hive, so logging in to these servers will effectively "wipe" your character). rocket discusses the issue here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/155698-serious-database-issue-bug/ Here's the tracker issue: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78 You should go there, vote it up and add comments about your own experiences to increase visibility on this relatively critical issue. In the meantime, I suggest you use the "Favorites" function to flag servers which reliably store your progress, then only play there. -
Freshly Killed bodies disappearing....
ZedsDeadBaby replied to thatoleserpent's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, and I'm sure he does. What's your fucking point? He's not complaining about it, he's just asking about it. Discovering, reporting, discussing and suggesting fixes to issues is exactly why we're playing. OP, here you go: vote this issue up and add your own comments: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=830 -
Server hopping is killing this game FAST
ZedsDeadBaby replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
It's an annoying issue but I really don't see how it's killing the game. This issue persisted all throughout the mod and was annoying but tolerable. Don't hang out in military bases. Get in, get out. This is true whether server hoppers exist or not. I posted this thread over a year ago and I think it's a really viable solution as it addresses the problem with very little side effects for people who play "legitimately." But, honestly I think it can wait. I would prefer they focus on making the game work properly and have a variety of mechanics before getting headaches about loot mechanics, gear distribution, or how annoyed you personally might be that someone spawned behind you and shot you in the back. -
Freshly Killed bodies disappearing....
ZedsDeadBaby replied to thatoleserpent's topic in General Discussion
Can we seriously stop fucking posting this shit every time someone mentions something that's not working properly? He wasn't rude in any way. Just asked a simple question. If you want to be helpful, post a link to the bug tracking site (or better yet, search for known issues and post links to those so people can vote them up). Posting "ALPHER HURRDY HURR" in every thread talking about issues is not productive or helpful at all. -
Well, let's see. It assigns some kind of crazy supernatural power to zombies whereby they are capable of "smelling" bad people from far away. So in that sense, it's just downright goofy. What are they, undead Santa Clauses? But, more importantly it seeks to punish players for what you deem "bad behavior." This is not in the spirit of the game. rocket wants players to be the ones who drive player behavior, not artificial, weird game mechanics that punish or reward certain behaviors. If you want a mechanic where zombies can smell people who KoS, then how about a mechanic where zombies can smell people who don't? Zombies hate Goody Two-Shoes so they go after them with a vengeance. Oh, but that's not what you want because you think your way of playing the game is "right" and you're trying to dig up ways to punish people who think otherwise, right?
-
Check out my middle finger. I put it up when someone posts a completely ridiculous suggestion.
-
No, they actually shouldn't. rocket has said from Day 1 of the mod that players are meant to be the #1 threat in the game. Humans are a far superior opponent and make for a much more intense and interesting game than going up against a mindless AI with repetitive behavior which can surely be manipulated no matter who sophisticated it gets. If you want a game that's primarily about killing hordes of zombies and gathering goodies, there really are plenty of options out there. DayZ is and will remain primarily a PvP game with zombies as one of the mechanics to drive player interaction (the other main one being survival mechanics like food and sickness).

Add a scary amount of zombies to military bases
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Frost20's topic in General Discussion
How does you being "fully geared" sooner break the game? Gear acquisition speed is really not a major issue. So what if you gear up faster right now? Yes, server hopping should be fixed and loot distribution balanced, but it really doesn't drastically break the game if people can grab gear a little faster for now. -
Why? That's what they do with the broken windows. It works. I don't understand what would be silly about it. If you damage part of the car, it looks damaged. Have a few variations so it's not repetitive and it would work just fine.
-
RIght, but the mantra is the general response to both; that's the problem. Any time anyone mentions anything that's possibly not working, even if they do it in a completely normal and civil way, half of the answers in the thread are sarcastic "ALPHA LOL GET USED TO IT" bullshit. It's genuinely annoying.

Of course you can "imagine" it, because literally every other game in the industry does it. No thanks. -
Add a scary amount of zombies to military bases
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Frost20's topic in General Discussion
Nah. Why is that so important? Server hopping is kind of lame, but it's hardly a game-breaking issue. It would be nice if they found a way to prevent it, but this is not that way. -
Why? Glass already breaks. How hard would it be to swap out other textures for damaged ones? Why would that necessitate a new engine?
-
I get the idea, I just don't understand the logic behind it. Why are icons bad? Maybe it "can" be done without icons, but so what? Icons are a great solution. Hunger and thirst are senses. They're always with us. Not something we really think about in phrases like "I'm thirsty." One just is thirsty. Since we can't feel these senses in the game, an icon is the ideal solution. There really isn't a better one. At least not until someone invents a way to pipe emotions directly into our cerebellums fro w/in a game. Yeah, thanks. I wasn't suggesting they were, only that the current icons don't really cut it as a final solution.
