Where does the word simulation appear in the quote you posted? That completely changes the meaning of the quote. You can't just toss it on there and roll your eyes like you've proven your point. Sorry, but: Do you see it as a simulation game? Hall: No. Sure, it just arbitrarily punishes them for playing in a way other than what you deem "right." Which, sorry, no. All total bullshit. What's "more intelligent" about not killing people? Just because it's not how you want to play doesn't make you smarter than people who kill others bud. It takes more intelligence to murder another player than it does to eat a can of beans and admire the sunset. So you have "no problem" with CoD, but it's "dumb." Right. Okay. That makes perfect sense. If that's true, the why the hell do you need features to encourage people to play like you? If they're all like you already, then it's not a problem, right? Sorry, but what? How can it be both? If I'm killing people on sight I can't possibly be in a group. All known issues that will be fixed and having nothing to do with PvP or your silly Goody-Goody Super Psychic Fantastic Zombies idea.

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Nariquo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't need gear. Every spot in my inventory is completely full. I shoot people to watch them fall over, because it's funny. Also, red is my favorite color. -
Login then go AFK and watch an episode of your favorite TV show. Alternatively, have a friend come and shoot you through a window.

Random Character Wipes/Resets when Joining the same Official Server? [Possible Bug/Discussion]
ZedsDeadBaby replied to alaskafish (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's a common issue apparently to do with a server's ability to remain connected to the hive. Also, some servers have not yet been "white-listed" and so they will not have permission to access the hive yet and will not store your progress (or be able to retrieve your data from the hive, so logging in to these servers will effectively "wipe" your character). rocket discusses the issue here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/155698-serious-database-issue-bug/ Here's the tracker issue: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78 You should go there, vote it up and add comments about your own experiences to increase visibility on this relatively critical issue. In the meantime, I suggest you use the "Favorites" function to flag servers which reliably store your progress, then only play there. -
You should post bug reports at http://feedback.dayzgame.com, but make sure to search the issues database first. Many bugs have already been reported and it is more effective to add commentary and up-votes to existing reports rather than creating new duplicate entries.

Seems almost necessary. Goes so well with handcuffs, etc. One potential downside is the amount of time a player would be "out" and how you could potentially grief someone by simply hitting them over and over again with a tranquilizer gun, essentially forcing them to logout. It's really neat to think about tranquilizing someone and then kidnapping them to take them to your base or something, but from their perspective that's just like 10 minutes of staring at a black screen that says "You are unconscious." Are they really going to wait that long? Or will they just give up and logout? Some compromise might be necessary, perhaps allowing a player to hear but not see, or see but with blurred vision. Something so it's not just total darkness for many long minutes.

Got killed by 4 guys who said they were friendly, what a joke...

Option three: find other players to play with. Of course, to do that you need to put a tiny bit of effort into finding other people who want to do the same thing you do and joining up with them. Don't expect to accomplish this by just running up to random strangers in the game and flailing your limbs around like a wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tubeman. Oh, and don't expect to accomplish it by crying incessantly on the forums about how it's not possible. Neither of these methods will prove effective. -
Combat Logging/Server Hopping Brainstorm Thread
ZedsDeadBaby replied to atmaca (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Simple Solution to Loot Farming via Server Hopping Combat logging is super easy. We just need a 15 second countdown on logout. I'm pretty sure Dean has said he already has this implemented he just hasn't deployed it fully. 90 seconds is excessive. That's plenty of time for someone to come along and find me even if I was "safe" when I logged out. -
Discussion : KoS Mentality and how to keep it to minimum
ZedsDeadBaby replied to LeoIvanov's topic in General Discussion
I find this implication humorously depressing, that immature "kids" seek to face off against human enemies with real intelligence, cunning and unpredictably dangerous behavior while the mature "adults" want to fight the stupid, repetitive, boring and predictable zombies. Why is "PEE VEE EEE" inherently more mature and respectable than "PEE VEE PEE?" My five year old son absolutely loves PvE games. He plays Minecraft on creative mode because he hates dying. If he had to fight other players, he would be frustrated and angry. The kind of frustration and anger that might make someone post something on a forum insulting the maturity of a group of players just because they choose a different activity in an open-world sandbox game. It would probably be insulting to point out the irony in the fact that you're insulting "kids" while acting like a five-year-old, so I won't point it out. I'll just lay out the facts and let you settle on the conclusion yourself. -
Right, but knowing why it happens means you don't have to post a thread asking why it happens. You suggest the most reliable way to avoid the issue. Find a low ping server, favorite it, and then let it "cook" for a day on your favorites list. Then you can play on it with a reasonable level of assurance that it has access to the hive. Above all, don't "server hop." You're very likely to delete yourself by randomly jumping around to different servers.

Got killed by 4 guys who said they were friendly, what a joke...
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Miza's topic in General Discussion
Hall revealed that his favorite story was that of the black widow. "There was this girl who would send out an SOS message over global chat by voice, so guys could tell she was a girl, saying she needed help in a church," he said. "So the guys would come in and she would shoot them and loot their bodies, and he'd post the videos of it on the internet. That to me was just brilliant." -
Right, which they're not. There are tons of clans, teams, partnerships and lone-wolf Heroes trying to make a name for themselves by helping survivors. I wanted to find a team this weekend and it took me all of 15 minutes to find a clan that was recruiting, apply on their forums, get their Teamspeak and jump into game with like a dozen people who were cooperating. If "everyone" is KoS'ing then why is every one of these threads full of people insisting they hate it and telling stories about what happens when you do not do it? The game is obviously not mean to be "only" about shooting other players, but the fact is and remains that Dean wants other players to be the primary source of danger and drama in the game. He has repeatedly said as much and referenced the human-on-human drama of fiction like Night of the Living Dead, The Walking Dead and The Road (a story absolute rife with "KoSers") to justify this philosophy. Yes, more options are needed and will be added for cooperation and collaboration, but the end result is likely always going to be the same - people will play with those they know and trust, and will avoid or kill those they don't. Getting me to group up with complete strangers will require forced mechanics, and that above all is something Dean has said he's not interested in doing. He's not out to "cure" KoS any more than he's out to cure the zombie outbreak. He just wants people to have more options.

Something tells me you should go fuck yourself.

I've put like 30 hours into SA and I haven't been stuck in a building yet. I don't know what you're doing, but stop it. "Be a dick" or just disagree with your preconceptions about the game? Okay, maybe it's both. Fun, though.

No. They should add more communication options like two-way radios, more complicated hand signals, and better ways to identify teammates like badges sewn on to backpacks but "general chat" doesn't belong in DayZ. The sense of isolation and loneliness is a big part of the new player experience and overcoming it by finding other people and communicating with them is a big part of your "progression" in the game. General chat in the mod was a nightmare. It was 33% people whining and complaining about dying, 33% people asking how to fix broken legs, and 33% people offering free "help" if you meet up with them, and then "trolololing" when they actually turn out to be murderers. Pass.

My two cents is that your two cents suck and are boring.

Loot spawn mechanics are not implemented in the game yet. Discussing "nerfs" to a completely temporary system is a pointless waste of time.

Discussion : KoS Mentality and how to keep it to minimum
ZedsDeadBaby replied to LeoIvanov's topic in General Discussion
Trying to find ways to "minimize or remove" killers from DayZ is counter productive. It is the presence and commonality of indiscriminate murder that adds tension and drama to everything else that happens. Looting a high-value target is exciting not because of the loot I might find, but because I might find another player there who wants to shoot my pretty face off. Trying to eliminate the chance of KoS from DayZ is like asking a girl on a date and then trying to find ways to eliminate your chances of having sex with her. You certainly could, but why would you? -
But, that's not what rocket wants to do. Yes, it's possible, but it's not the plan for DayZ. Has stated in no uncertain terms that his hope is that other players will be the #1 source of danger and drama in the game. Zombies, no matter how "numerous, deadly and aggressive" will be an AI - and any AI, no matter how sophisticated, will be "beatable" in the sense that it will follow rules and patterns which players can learn and manipulate to their advantage. Further, developing a sophisticated AI is a long, exceedingly complex task. Even for a talented developer, coming up with an effective behavior system for an intelligent enemy is not a weekend task. It can take months to design, test and refine. For a small team, it's an enormous commitment of resources. Human intelligence, on the other hand, is completely free! It already exists and the developers don't have to spend any time "working out the bugs" or asking us to test it and report issues. Nature already did the testing and bug fixing, via hundreds of thousands of years of evolution through natural selection. You can, but why would you? There's this disturbingly pervasive notion that rocket's grand plan is to "simulate the apocalypse" or something of that sort. We can argue for hours about how people would "really" behave when faced with these situations, but it's a pointless exercise. DayZ is not setting out to accurately simulate human behavior in an apocalypse. If it did, we're missing all sorts of necessary functionality from agriculture to animal husbandry to sex and reproduction. The human experience in a "real" apocalypse would be vast, complex and human and it's insane to imagine a game attempting to recreate it. rocket, unless he has changed his plans vastly in the last year, wants to create an open-world sandbox game where survival mechanics and zombies force players to struggle to survive and in doing so are faced with "moral" choices which they are free to make on their own - good, evil or neutral. Whether or not to indiscriminately murder everyone who is not part of my trusted group of friends is, and will likely always remain, a viable and common method of playing the game. Even if you're "good" you need to learn to deal with the presence and prevalence of this type of evil. Good, after all, is only meaningful in the presence of evil. If everyone is "forced" to be good in order to survive, then it ceases to be a noteworthy choice. You are good because that's how the game is played. That's so much less interesting than choosing to be good because that's how you personally desire to play the game. Frankly, I love it. The industry is choked and overflowing with games that offer "false" choices. Horde or Alliance? It pretty much doesn't fucking matter. You're going to be doing the same dungeons and killing the same enemies as everyone else. I would hate it if DayZ offered the choice of being evil, but then simply smashed it into the ground with a series of artificial barriers and behavior modification mechanics. That's not a real choice.

Why can't I reliad 5.56 20 round CMAG with 5.56 20 rounds?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in General Discussion
That's what I thought but the ammo doesn't have any kind of "open" option. It was basically "split" (didn't work), "Chamber" (nothing) and some other stuff. No option to just unwrap or unpackage the ammo. -
My thoughts are you seriously just "ran up" to 3 strangers with an axe and you're apparently complaining that they tried to "KoS" you? Here's a protip: Don't fucking run up to me and my buddies with an axe. I will shoot you every. Single. Time. I mean good work killing them but you were definitely playing stupid and recklessly. Why would you run up to them? What did you expect to happen? Might as well just suicide.
