Guns I Dont / Want To See In The Game
ZedsDeadBaby replied to jamoy1993's topic in General Discussion
With due respect, this isn't Skyrim. The ability to craft an actual functional bow and arrow from raw materials would take years of knowledge and practice and specialized equipment. You can't just cut a tree down and whip yourself up a longbow. I mean, you can, but it's going to be effective at like 3 meters and break after a dozen shots. -
Rocket said : Cannibalism will be eventually part of the game
ZedsDeadBaby replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
How does that qualify as either abuse or exploitation? That's exactly why it's being added to the game... -
They have more than one developer; they are capable of doing both of these things at once. While developers have teams, most development tasks are basically a solo effort because two developers working on the same problem are basically going to step on each others toes, duplicate work, overwrite code changes with source control check-ins, and generally make a mess. It's like asking two guitar players to play a song on the same guitar. Sure, they might figure it out, but it's not optimal. Once you have one person working on "zombie pathing" you're not putting other people on that, so they can go work on other things. TL;DR if they don't have enough development muscle at this point to work on "the basics" in addition to new features, then we're all fucked anyway. They won't be finishing this game for years.
-
That's awfully debatable. Those things you discuss are features which require varying amounts of effort from actual developers, whereas new headgear at this stage of development is simply content. Adding new hats, helmets, etc. can likely be done entirely without developer intervention. You just draw up some new models, put them in the library of available items, and compile the game. The people working on "game optimization" are not the same people who would be adding green hats to the game. Further, there's more to headgear and accessories than just looks. They're a huge boon to squad tactics and in-game communication (i.e., everyone on your team wears the same outfit). Having more options is definitely a big benefit and would require a very small amount of effort.
-
Everything. You're testing each and every thing in the game. This is not just about bug fixing and performance, either. Despite the (ridiculous) mantra on these forums and elsewhere, we're also testing the quality of the game's features. The entire point of having an open Alpha with this many players is that the team can get instant feedback, both in the forum of internet chatter but also and more importantly by examining metrics and data they collect after implementing new features or changes.

Removing chat function sucks for deaff players
ZedsDeadBaby replied to redfirm's topic in General Discussion
Nothing in this thread prior to your post qualifies as "insensitive." I would love to know which posts in particular you're referring to. Simply being pragmatic is not the same thing as being insensitive. All I've seen thus far is people pointing out that it's very impractical to imagine a game finding a way to cater to deaf players in any and all situations. Right now, video games are almost entirely limited to two senses - sight and sound. You're dealing with a demographic that literally has 50% of the available human interface options; so it seems a little disingenuous to use their situation to discuss the availability of global general chat, especially given that direct chat works just fine and so these deaf players who "literally cannot communicate" actually don't even exist. -
I'll spend time reporting them if I see some indication from the team that they plan to take action and Blacklist these servers from the hive. In the mod they talked a big game at first, and then basically did nothing.
-
Do you see it as a simulation game? Hall: No. That said, I do like the idea of nutritional content and a "balanced diet" creating a healthier player. But build a gym? We're all running like 100 miles per day with like 50kg of gear on our backs, I don't think we need a gym to get in shape.
-
How is that relevant at all? The events would have unfolded precisely as described regardless of their "motivation." And bullets pretty much feel exactly the same when they hit you regardless of what "motivated" the person to shoot you. I mean, seriously? Come on. Stretch any further to grasp at those straws and you're liable to pull a muscle. They saw him and opened fire. That's KoS. Plain and simple. And it was an awesome experience for him, and turned into a great story.

I shoot people based on whether or not they have a functioning cerebellum.

I'll just point out that this "great experience" that turned into a "great story" and got OP's "heart racing" is really just a couple of guys trying to KoS him. But, you know, KoS is totally a major problem that needs to be dealt with or it's going to ruin the game. Right?

It's a common issue apparently to do with a server's ability to remain connected to the hive. Also, some servers have not yet been "white-listed" and so they will not have permission to access the hive yet and will not store your progress (or be able to retrieve your data from the hive, so logging in to these servers will effectively "wipe" your character). rocket discusses the issue here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/155698-serious-database-issue-bug/ Here's the tracker issue: http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=78 You should go there, vote it up and add comments about your own experiences to increase visibility on this relatively critical issue. In the meantime, I suggest you use the "Favorites" function to flag servers which reliably store your progress, then only play there.

We will agree to disagree. Mostly because you're wrong. It's not "griefing" and if Dean didn't want these mechanics to be taken advantage of, he would just change them. The whole reason fresh spawns start the way they do is to make them vulnerable to this kind of behavior. Count me among the people who are very glad that we don't have to give a single flying fuck what people like you choose to "condone." I hate that I have to keep saying this, but if being treated poorly by strangers "ruins" your experience, then DayZ. Is. Not. The. Game. For. You.
-
Sorry, no. There's not. "Fresh spawns" are not special. They're people too, and entirely capable of deciding whether or not to trust someone. If they are indeed a completely new player, then what better lesson to learn than "be careful who you trust?" It's the perfect introduction to DayZ. Dean makes no distinction between "fresh spawns" and other players. If Dean wanted to protect fresh spawns, he could have. The whole reason fresh spawns start practically naked is because he wants people in DayZ to feel scared, vulnerable and uncomfortable. And realizing there are people willing to lie to you just for the fun of planting an axe in the back of your head is just the sort of discomfort he welcomes. If you think this is "griefing," then, again, I submit that DayZ may not be the game for you. This is not griefing; it's just playing DayZ. No. That is the biggest benefit of "douchebags." They make it difficult to be good, which means that being good is actually something to be proud of. If all it took to be good was running up to random assholes and dropping beans on the ground, why would it be impressive at all? "Ooo, I'm a big Hero! Look at me using my mouse to drag a picture of a can of beans 6 inches across the screen! Worship me in all my goodness!" The only reason being good is noteworthy is that so many people are evil scumbags. You should be thanking the douchebags for making your life worthwhile.

People share stories like this primarily to expose the ridiculous attitudes of people like you who somehow think engaging in PvP while playing a game which includes PvP as a primary mechanic is "acting like an asshole." If you really feel so strongly that fooling someone into thinking you're friendly only to kill them is a "douchebag" thing to do, then you're in the wrong game. And I don't say that lightly. I don't like people who troll around telling people to "go play Farmville" or whatever, but this is genuine. I genuinely feel you will not be happy in DayZ if this kind of behavior fills you with such angst. Understand that this kind of player vs. player interaction with deceit and murder drama is one of the reasons this game exists. When Dean says he wants to hear interesting stories, these are some of those stories. Consider for a moment that Dean's favorite story from the mod was one pretty much exactly like this, where a guy lied to people in order to drag them to their deaths: Brilliant, okay? Notice he didn't say "That guy was a total asshole and should uninstall the game." Notice he didn't say "That guy was ruining DayZ and he should uninstall it." Notice he didn't say "I can't wait to implement ways to stop this behavior."

How about Balota airfield military loot getting removed?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Twixxer's topic in General Discussion
I know you wish that were true, because it would mean the DEVs magically agreed with you about how the game should look and work and everything, but it's obviously not true. If they just wanted to test the game, they could have easily put military spawns into the residential areas of Balota. The fact that they deliberately changed the map in order to add barracks to Balota means they want those things to be there. I'm really genuinely sorry if you're not happy about that. Actually, I'm not. I think it's awesome. Whatever they can do to make people like you uncomfortable is awesome. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Let's meet in Balota, and in advance I apologize for the number of bullet holes I put in your precious little face. -
How about Balota airfield military loot getting removed?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Twixxer's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much; it's only "THEIR" game when they make decisions that Twixxer agrees with. Once they do something that he doesn't understand, like populating an area near the coast with high value items in order to encourage player engagement and competition over resources, he immediately throws his hands up and claims they don't know what they're doing. It's an inconsistent argument, and pretty starkly reveals his hypocrisy and the like in others who have the same opinion. Notice language like "The PvP rate on coast IS bad." When people like him use words like "bad," what they really mean is "that I personally find objectionable." On one hand they will claim the DEVs are infallible creatures who intended the game to be played in a certain way and ONLY in that way forever, and on the other they will argue incessantly and breathlessly against the very decisions the DEVs have made, like enabling unrestricted PvP and refusing to take steps to curb it or reduce it in ways that they find comforting, or by removing starting weapons so that new players are completely defenseless. The victimization of the "spawn" is a very big deal for people like Twixxer. Read this very thread for doomsday predictions on how the prevalence of PvP along the coast is simply unfair and will drive new players away. Forget that new players need only hold 'W' for 15 fucking seconds in order to free themselves from this apparent coastal genocide, and forget that if you actually play the game you will find that you almost never get killed shortly after spawning provided you don't do things like run immediately into the middle of Cherno with sleigh-bells attached to your testicles. Its' an epidemic in their mind, and one that can only be solved by making the game function exactly how THEY deem appropriate, because, again, the DEVs only know what they're doing when they do things that fit into a preconceived notion about what the game is "supposed" to be. -
Level of Weaponry Available (Poll)
ZedsDeadBaby replied to ThatSwoleGuy's topic in General Discussion
Not really, no. The most interesting fights I ever had in the Mod involved squad vs. squad situations where a variety of weapons were involved. A couple people with medium-range weapons like the FN FAL or SAW, ranged cover from an M107 or AS50, and maybe a couple SMGs for close-range suppression. This put huge pressure on the squad to communicate, coordinate, observe the battlefield and be responsive and strategic. Shotgun vs. shotgun battles are pretty much just close range fuck-fests. Whoever sees their target and fires first wins, rinse and repeat. As for melee, I don't want to disparage the game at all, but it's pretty ugly. It's obviously implemented as just "guns" with a range of like 2m, so it's basically just a spam click party with no strategy whatsoever. Maybe if there were more dynamic melee options, like dodging or items like riot shields to parry blows, or the ability to tackle someone in order to try and wrestle their melee weapon away then melee combat would be more interesting. As it stands it's basically just point and click. The same general level of strategy involved in playing Solitaire or shopping on Amazon. -
Okay, then send them a check for $70. Suggesting they charge $99 for an early access Alpha game is, and I'm sorry to be rude, incredibly stupid.
-
Abuse was relatively rampant in the mod, and it's becoming more common in the SA. Most commonly, password-locked servers or "auto kick" behavior to allow admins and their friends to gear up with no threat from other players. With the way loot currently works, I'm sure there are plenty of admins out there abusing it. Loot NWAF --> Restart server to respawn loot --> repeat until your squad is fully kitted out.

Level of Weaponry Available (Poll)
ZedsDeadBaby replied to ThatSwoleGuy's topic in General Discussion
Military weapons make combat more interesting and dynamic, and rare gear makes death much more meaningful. Should they be rare? Of course. Do I want to run around for most of my time in the game with nothing but a baseball bat or a shotgun? Fuck no. That would be fun for like a week and then get incredibly boring. -
Okay. But these people wouldn't spend months leveling up their characters, obviously. They're cheaters and they can do whatever they want. Why would they bother playing "legitimately" only to cheat later? A skill tree is neither a good idea for DayZ nor in any way a deterrent to cheaters. As for a higher price, it's already double what rocket said it was going to be so I think that's sufficient.

My character got teleported to the middle of the ocean
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Surcharger's topic in General Discussion
ALT-TAB and watch a movie or something. You should be good and dead by the time it's over. -
He can't ban people from Steam but I'm pretty sure he can ban people from DayZ if he wants.
