The only solution for DayZ: Simulation.

Because simulations require immense amounts of development time and effort to work, and that's why most simulation games focus on a single specific activity, like driving a truck or performing surgery. In order for DayZ to be a simulation, it would need to be a military combat simulator, a vehicle building and maintenance simulator, a building construction simulator, a medicine and surgery simulator, a hunting simulator, a cooking simulator, etc., etc. Yes, it would be cool. It would also take approximately eight years to leave Alpha and probably spend another 2-3 in Beta. It's important to balance realism with playability. Yes, it's weird that we were able to carry car parts and fuel cans around in our inventory in the mod, and that kind of breaks immersion a little bit, but so what? It's also pretty weird that everyone knows how to perform blood testing and transfusions, bandages fix gunshot wounds, we can run essentially infinitely with 50kg of gear bouncing off our backs, items appear on the ground that have absolutely no business being there, we reincarnate infinitely, no matter how many zombies we kill there's always more, etc. etc. A true simulation would essentially be an unplayable mess and take forever to make, so we have to compromise a little bit. Dean has already said he's not trying to make a simulation so we really shouldn't argue about it.

    .357 op

That sounds about right. When dealing with human targets, pretty much every gun is "OP" so maybe we could stop using that stupid phrase?

Should I invest my time in 1st Person Servers?

Yes. Provided you want to speak "in terms of competitive gaming," which nobody was doing or would have any reason to do. If your big goal in life is to be a professional Doom player, maybe you shouldn't be wasting your time on DayZ anyway? Shouldn't you be training, big man? Riches and women await you, no doubt.

Should I invest my time in 1st Person Servers?

Yeah, don't you know? 1st person players are just better than everyone else. It's like a superior race of beings, except from the same planet and sorry I was going to write more but I rolled my eyes so hard they fell out the back of my fucking head.
  5. This idea that making the game more difficult is going to somehow magically make people more friendly is so prevalent. It's like mass hysteria. Where did it come from and why do people believe it for a minute? More zombies are a great idea, as are more teamwork-based activities like shelter-building, storage and vehicle maintenance. The game, in general, should be more challenging and involve more long-term, team-based goals. But why do people believe for a second this is suddenly going to mean I'm going to want to buddy up with random jagoffs and try and get things done? People are going to continue to do what they have always done in multiplayer games - find friends outside the game and join as a group. More zombies? My existing group will take care of them. More teamwork-based activities? I'll do them with my group. We're still going to indiscriminately shoot every other person in their stupid ugly faces because who needs them? Why take the risk? If Zombies are more dangerous, that means strangers are more dangerous. If an inopportune gunshot or someone standing when they should crouch means I might die, the last thing I'm going to want to do is surround myself with a bunch of random-ass strangers I can't trust to hold their own dicks straight while they piss. Most importantly, why cooperate with someone to accomplish a long-term task if your relationship is, by it's very nature, short term? Why would I work all day to build a vehicle or shelter with someone if I'm probably never going to see them again? So, sure, if you want me to sign up for #3 go ahead and put my name down because those are all great features. But if you're fooling yourself into thinking that once those features go in DayZ is going to turn into a wonderland of high-fives, hookah parties and "Friendly dudes!" then I'm afraid you've got another thing coming entirely. You are going to get shot just as often after these features go in as you were before, if not more often.

This is not what I hoped DayZ would be

I absolutely promise you it's fun for the people who do it. Doubly so if they imagine you here complaining about it. Boo hoo. Fresh spawns. Seriously just hold 'W' for 30 seconds and you're off the coast and running. You're not a fresh spawn anymore. Congratufuckinglations. Seriously? You just told a bunch of stories about you standing around waving at people in Cherno and Elektro. If you can get to either of those places, you can get inland.

Dude, the first sentence of your post is "Hello everyone. I've noticed most of the community hates KoS." Are you really going to back pedal from that?

    DayZ End-Game: PvE or PvP?

Find 6,000 mouth-breathers who think the only alternative to PvE is "deathmatch" and stuff them all on a server together. "Problem" solved.

So get it back in hand. Do you have hands? Are there fingers on those hands? Can your fingers operate triggers as well as they whine on forums? Brilliant tactician. Absolutely skillfully executed. Sun Tzu would be proud, surely. In The Art of War he's quoted as saying "When you're enemy approaches, stand there like a mutt in heat and wave your hand in the air. They will hand over their arms and surrender to you on the spot." On any of these lives did you think for a fucking single second that you might want to get off the coast, stop hanging out in places like Kamenka, Elektro and Cherno and stop trusting random strangers? Did it occur to you even once to just walk north and find some food and supplies? Read that like six times out loud to yourself. Please?

If only you could make people feel things. Maybe if you insult them some more they'll come around. Try calling them stupid again. Or maybe point out how they probably have smaller penises than you. Surely they will eventually fall in love with you and realize your ideas are awesome and they've been missing out on your wit and wisdom all this time. Then they will put down their guns and you can all gather around the campfire and exchange ghost stories and make s'mores. In the morning you can all hike down to the river bank and take turns shaving each other's useless, shriveled little ballsacks. There's a highly effective cure for this terrible affliction you've contracted called "playing DayZ." All it takes is two keys. You don't even have to talk to your doctor about it.

    A KoS thread

Hello, xBlurHitz. I've noticed you're suffering from a severe bout of confirmation bias that makes you think there exists some "community" that agrees with everything you say, when you've really just read a couple blog posts and a few whining forum rants from people who happen to hold the same asinine views as you and have been playing the game for less than a month. You don't say?! I thought for sure. You had me fooled for a second, what with the hat and everything. I was about to ask you how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop and then I realized that was just a steaming pile of dog excrement on your head and this has all been one big lie.
  12. Right. Which is why I said stop running, like 6 times. "Clearly" you missed all the times I said I'm not talking about checking it while jogging. Considering the difference between how long it takes to press tab and "instantaneous" is basically infinity percent, I'm just going to go ahead and assume that you have some weird definition of "instantaneous" that you're going to have to go ahead and agree to disagree with reality and the laws of time and space about. Nobody's griping. I was provide constructive criticism. You know. Like half the point to us playing the fucking Alpha release? The discussion was relatively civil until you showed up to serve up a steaming helping of "shit we already discussed" with a side of pompous dickwhisker. If this is really how you want to interact with your compass, then surely we can agree this is superior. It's functionally identical, easier to read (i.e., it doesn't look like my eyes are 12 feet away from something that's in my fucking hand), it's accessible via a keystroke and it doesn't arbitrarily obscure my vision for no reason. In other words, it works exactly like it did in the mod minus glowing in the dark.
  13. No, but I've stopped and tried to look at one and it doesn't throw an opaque sheet over my head. What does that have to do with anything? It's glancing at a compass. That violates several natural laws so I'm pretty sure it's not true. Thanks Magellan. I know what a compass is for.

The funny thing is it's just a mentality. I don't actually KoS in the game; I just know that the fact that most people do is what makes the game interesting and will defend them until I'm blue in the face. I lived for 45 days in the mod with only 3 player kills and over 1700 zombie kills, but that's only impressive because every day I was faced with the possibility of running into some murderous asshole with a shotgun.

    This community....(kos complaint)

And as I point out every time some starry-eyed newmeat brings this up, there's a huge difference between the value of an individual player I know, trust and can communicate with and the value of some random schlub I've never seen before, will never see again, and can't trust as far as I can piss into the wind. Very, very few people are ever going to just randomly team up with strangers they meet in the game. No matter how beneficial cooperation is made. No matter how rare ammo gets. No matter how dangerous zombies are. No matter what, people are going to join up with their trusted friends, squad members and clan mates and they're going to bulletrape everyone else forever. Get fucking used to it.

    This community....(kos complaint)

You know what prevents being shot on sight? Don't be seen. Sight is a requisite component of shooting people on sight. I love to break it to you mate, but I don't give a shit whether or not you're hostile, and I don't want to communicate with you. I have plenty of friends. I don't need more. If you want some, get your own. So, you're a total, utter douchebag? Or, wait? What? I'm confused. You're better than them just because it took you a little longer to adopt this play strategy? Because they did it first, they're terrible and you're awesome? Is that really what you're going with? Fucking good. Those servers shouldn't even exist. I hope they have 2x the number of people KoSing just to punish them for running bullshit servers with bullshit rules. Sure there is. www.giantsoppywetvaginas.com. Fill out the form there, and you will get a fresh diaper in the mail with a free powder sample within 2-3 business days.

357 Magnum, What does it look like?

No weapons would. They would all be gone along with all the food and most of the people. Thankfully this is a game and not really the end of the world, because the actual apocalypse is going to fucking suck.
  18. Thanks for the ridiculously over-sized information, but that's exactly what we're talking about. Put it in your hands... press space. You're already 5 seconds into what should be a 3000ms process at most.
  19. Yeah, that doesn't put the argument to rest at all. I still have to open my inventory, obscuring my view, and then get a picture of the compass that's more difficult to discern than it used to be, yet functions essentially identically to an on-screen icon. It's a step backwards. Just let me bind compass glance to a key and show the same mouseover window with a more clear picture that doesn't l look like the compass is at the end of a six foot pole and partially under water.
  20. I don't suppose there's a chance I could convince you to post a short video of this "quick to pull" and "simple to read at a glance" experience? Preferably a few times in a row while changing direction and terrain type, etc. so we know you didn't just rehearse the one. ;)
  21. That's because there's a point at which it ceases to be interesting and becomes ridiculous tedium. Do you want to have to pull the zipper up on your pants or individually fasten the buttons on your jacket? Should you have to load bullets one at a time into a magazine, or take your sunglasses off and use your shirt to clean them?

    DayZ End-Game: PvE or PvP?

Whichever you want! Probably a bit of both if you want to stay alive. Okay. Is that a bad thing? You should be resorting to PvP all the time when you play. It's an integral part of the game and critical to your survival. Personally I wouldn't wait around until you're "fully geared" to engage other players, because that leaves you vulnerable for a long time. There are plenty of other places you can go to find players. What? I thought you just said you were going to PvP. Now you're quitting? Make up your mind, son. That's because it is. That's the plan. It always has been. Dean said from Day 1 that DayZ is a game about experimenting with how players treat each other when faced with difficult and uncomfortable decisions. That's PvP in a nutshell. Yes, you might group up with folks, but the main reason you're going to group up is to survive other groups of players who will want your beans. If you're not too excited about PvP, then definitely give DayZ a very long break. Like, forever. As for "other shooters" and "as long as [you can] remember" I'm going to call a big fat giant pile of bullshit. There's never been a PvP game like DayZ before. That's what made it so successful in the first place. Propose whatever you want. It's going to remain a mix of the two with an emphasis on PvP. Cooperation among survivors is already encouraged. For both PvE and PvP both.

They already have. You claim to be "watching" so you should know this. There are plenty of squads and clans that don't condone unprovoked violence. I don't know what the fuck that's supposed to mean, but if you're waiting for people to stop trying to kill you, you're going to be waiting a very long time.

This is not what I hoped DayZ would be

If and when that happens, you can go and play that game. You're right, being KoS'd does get old. There are two surefire solutions to this: 1) don't be seen (you can't be killed on sight if you remain out of sight) or 2) kill people before they kill you. You will find both of these in healthy measure will pretty much cure your KoS affliction. I would think that would be the preferred situation. If someone is camping a place all the time, then you have a 100% guaranteed method for avoiding them, right? Stop f'ing going there.
  25. I've never seen any indication that he has any plans to do anything different than what's already in the game. He obviously doesn't think this is the epic, 41-page circlejerkathon that everyone in this thread does. If you dont' want 3rd person, play on servers where it's locked. That's literally it. It's over. Done.
