Why would that matter? You don't need mods to turn off friendly fire. If rocket wanted to allow it, he would just allow it. The fact that it's not an option and expressly and specifically against server hosting rules tells me he might not share your grand vision for the future of the title. We'll see I guess.
-
My young what? But seriously, I'm 34. Don't make assumptions about people. Right. And if those folks don't like what rocket has to offer, then they have plenty of other options available in the way of different games, or they could go start a kickstarter and make their own title. rocket has a vision for what he wants to achieve with the game, and if that vision doesn't include any Joe Schmoo with enough money to rent a server completely changing the fundamental mechanics of the game because they "feel like it," then I don't see why we shouldn't endeavor to respect that.
-
It's not fine print. It's regular-sized print in the server hosting rules. You're only allowed to kick for racism, hate speech or cheating. You can't just kick whoever you want. Then don't rent a server, dude. If your only motivation is to be a little cheating ass, then the game is better off without you as a host. No, he definitely shouldn't. It's his money but not his software. I don't want an admin and 10 of his friends to play on a server alone, gear up until they have unlimited ammo and all the best items, then go out into the regular servers and trounce all over people.
-
Yes, it's actually exactly like that. A landlord owns the property so he gets to say what you do with it even though you're paying rent. Bohemia Interactive owns the DayZ software, so they get to say what happens to it even though people are paying for servers on which to host it. It's a perfect analogy.

No, that's not what you want. You want a specific play style and no others whatsoever. There's nothing at all preventing you from playing whatever style you wish on standard servers. Plenty of people do it every day and did it all throughout the mod without special PvE servers. You can be a medic, an explorer, a survivalist; Hell, if it really strikes your fancy you can be a goddamned bard and go around singing songs to people. All of these play styles are available and viable on standard servers. What you want is safety, comfort and reassurance that you will not be threatened by other players. And safe, comfortable and reassured are all exactly the opposite of the emotions Dean wants you to feel while playing DayZ. "PvE only servers simply break the game. Yes, I am. I play on regular, full servers. I just don't hang out on the coast, and you don't have to either. Can you hold 'W' on your keyboard for 30 seconds? Give it a shot; if it works, then you have the power to avoid being "spawn killed" just like me. All you have to do is walk forward a few feet. Literally. That's it. The major epidemic plaguing the game has been solved. You may rest easily now. You're either full of shit or very unlucky. I have never been sniped or killed with an M4 anyhwere near a spawn point. Not once. Last night I even made a full circle and came back down to Kamyshovo to see if I might not find some of these notorious campers everyone's always talking about. I stood on the road in Kamyshovo for about 10 minutes in full gear. I saw three new spawns run past, but not a single bandit. I heard no gunshots. It was basically quiet. Maybe try a different server? Or just try to stop making shit up about things that aren't happening. I promise you not everyone practices these things. The pile of corpses in the middle of Cherno and Elektro on every single daylight server tells me that not EVERYONE practices these things. To help them out? To talk to them? Maybe explore the map? I don't know. Anything you want. "Lack of experience." You're cute, mate. Yes. He "is but one man." But, he's the creator of the game. So if you disagree with him about what makes a good game, then you should go find a different game to play, not argue that you know better than him and try to change his game for him.
-
NEWSFLASH you can hold 'W' for 30 seconds and you're not on the coast anymore. If you're exploring the map, as you say, then you shouldn't be seeing new players or the people trying to kill them, ever. Move quickly, stay low, stay quiet, travel in the trees, behind walls, etc. Stay off roads and out of fields. If possible, travel long distances at night. Yes, survival skills. I lived for 46 straight days in the mod with 1750 zombie kills (only 3 player kills all self defense) by employing these tactics. I have been playing since the mod was a week old and I have literally never been "spawn killed."

PvE servers affect the game as a whole, because they affect player perceptions of the game and player demands. More and more PvE servers crop up, more people join the game thinking that - just like every other watered-down MMO on the market - DayZ is running separate servers for the two. They will expect both experiences to be robust and enjoyable, when in fact the game will only work and be balanced when both are present. DayZ only works when both of these things are working in concert and existing in the same world. That's the entire reason Dean created the game - to see if he could build an experience where both of these play styles coexisted in one world. So allowing PvE servers is basically admitting that he failed completely and he might as well quit if that's what he's going to do. So, yeah. By playing on PvE servers you're basically telling Dean that he's a failure.
-
Which is exactly the problem. Dean didn't make this game so people could find "peace and quiet." You might as well piss in his face if you play this game for "peace and quiet."

I love exploring the map and being immersed. I've been from Berezino to Zelonogorsk and back probably half a dozen times this week. All on fully PvP-enabled servers and I feel super immersed, because my choices actually matter and I have to think about what I'm doing instead of just wandering through the middle of open fields in broad daylight with a target strapped on my back. What's stopping you from "actually experiencing" the map on standard servers? It's 250km2 and there's 40 measly players on the map. If you can't manage to explore and experience without taking a bullet to your face, then you need to brush up on your survival skills. It's really not hard to travel unnoticed. Give it some practice. It will make your exploration and experience much more interesting, because, you know, it will be an actual game instead of a sight-seeing simulator. If you're exploring the map, why are you running into noobs on the coast? I've probably covered 300km running this week, and I've seen maybe one other player. If you don't want people messing with you, learn to avoid them. It's called survival.
-
What the fuck? How is that what you garner from that? "People said they wanted a mix, so obviously they only want PvP." Mix, bud. Mix. It's a mix. The game is both. PvE and PvP. People want both. Both. Get it? Both.
-
Because they own the software being hosted on the server, obviously. They're paying for the server and they can do anything they want with that server, but if they choose to host DayZ then they have to obey the rules of hosting DayZ. It's really not a difficult concept. If I pay to rent a concert venue so my band can play there, I still have to obey the rules of the venue. "I paid for it, I get to do whatever I want" is not how it works in the real world. And it's an integral part of the game. Don't forget about that little point.
-
There is no guarantee of this at all. As of the current server hosting rules, private hives are not allowed. It's early alpha now, so they're not doing anything to enforce the rules, but there is no guarantee private hives will be a thing at release. I personally hope they will not be permitted.
-
That's against the rules and they will lose their hosting privileges if they actually try to enforce "PvE only." Also, there are no real time kill messages so admins have no way to kick you for killing. Trust me, I join "no KoS" servers all the time and gun folks down left and right. I haven't been kicked yet.
-
So your idea of "dictating how you play" is making it so you can't be an idiot and stand out in the open on the coast? By that rationale, zombies dictate how you play and are big meanies for it.
-
There are no such things as PvE servers mate. They don't exist. You can put that in the title of your server if you want but it's meaningless. It's against the rules and no real PvE servers will ever exist. And nobody is restricting how anyone plays. You can play HOWEVER YOU WANT on a regular server. PvE, PvP or (as most people do) a mix. Get it?
-
Spawn camping is impossible in this game. You don't spawn in the same place after you die. So, no. They're not dictating how people play.
-
Yes, that's it. Throw killers into the same category as people who are breaking the rules of the game. That definitely demonstrates what a strong argument you have. Why are PvP glory hounds less respectable than PvE "glory hounds?" Oh, right. 'cause you said so.
-
They don't need a rule against that because it would be completely impossible to do? Maybe that.

For those complaining about development pace

It's not really his problem anymore, it's Bohemia's. The need to hire people to keep this dialog open. rocket's time is too important for him to spend hours a day interacting with the community and keeping everyone up to date on what he's doing. Someone with fewer skills and a smaller paycheck needs to take on that role. -

"Easy" how? What does "easy" mean when the game has no set goal? If your goal in the game is not to be a murderer, then shooting everyone is obviously not the easiest way to achieve this. In fact, it's the easiest way to fail. If your goal is to live as long as possible, it's also a bad idea. You actually want to avoid strangers as much as possible and stay out of sight. Constantly trying to kill people is very likely to end up with you dead, too. If your goal is to explore, again, not a great idea to always be engaging in mortal combat. The only game play strategy for which this method is "easy" is trying to rack up the most player kills, and since that doesn't seem to be your goal, I don't know why this is "easy" in any sense of the word. If you really don't want to do it, just don't do it. -
Still, no acknowledgement or Fix for reconfiguring keys.

I cannot possibly imagine a scenario in which this is a priority for the team. Just use the default key binding settings. -

That's fine. I'm not those people, and I haven't ever made that argument, so I'm not sure what's "funny" about this. Some people might feel realism is the reason for KoS. I do not. I think it exists because it's presence makes the game more intense, thrilling and stressful. Everything I do in the game is exciting because at any moment I might be murdered. That's why I want KoS. And it's not just me. The creator of the game feels the same way. Here's a quote from him: "What I find interesting about DayZ is that I'm choosing to live and play this way; I'm not playing this way because it's necessarily the most efficient, I'm playing this way because it's how I want to feel. Not everyone plays the same way, but those that are playing as these evil and sadistic bandits are actually helping my game experience." --Dean Hall (rocket) -

We read it. We've all read it. We read it every few days because it gets posted constantly and the same arguments ensue every time. You're probably the tenth person to post the idea htis month. Okay, so it's a delayed punishment. That's still a punishment. Forcing me to carry meds around with me all the time and chew them like vitamins just so I'm allowed to play the game I want, while you suffer no such need because you're way of playing is "better," is a punishment specifically put in place to deter me from playing how I want. What if I can't find the meds? Then I have to play your way? And are you going to take meds every time you kill a zombie? Or are you just going to continue to conveniently ignore my point that the zombies in the game are real, live, breathing humans and you gun them down without a second thought all the time? -

ZedsDeadBaby replied to Rzach's topic in General Discussion
It has nothing to do with realism. I want KoS because gathering cans of beans is more exciting if I have to worry about someone shooting me while I do it. It makes the game more intense and interesting. That's why I want KoS. Incidentally, that's also why Dean wants KoS. -

Sure. It just so happens, it has been well thought out by 1,000 people before and discussed at length and all the reasons why it's unnecessary and doesn't really work have been "well thought out" as well. In Chernarus, the infected are people too. If killing people makes you go "totally insane," then killing zombies in the game will too. Sorry for that bit of news. Everyone has been saying that for 2 years now, and the game hasn't turned into that yet, so it's obviously not a real danger. I'm 34. Stop calling me a kid you little dipshit.
